Opis:
The water retention capacity of a territory is mainly defined by the land conditions, type of soil cover and manner of land management. The manifestations of the climate change reflect the need for better water capture from precipitation in agricultural catchment areas. The effect of the soil cover on the water retention capacity was studied in two localities with different soil types (chernozem and cambisol). The results have shown significant effects of permanent grass covers on increasing the water retention capacity. The mean retention capacity measured at permanent grass covers was 1.7-fold higher than at arable land. The soil type did not play a significant role. To some extent, the retention capacity is also influenced by the used agro-technology. After stubble-tillage, the water from precipitation was better infiltrated by arable land than by permanent grass cover. However, during a major part of the vegetation period, arable land is at the rest, and the short-term increase of its retention capacity has no impact on the overall outcome.

Opis:
The article presented the results of geochemical research of clean soil and soil contaminated with the leachate from the landfill. Two types of soil were studied – brown with a stony foundation and loamy. The aim of the research was to compare the impact of leachate infiltration on the changes of chemical parameters of soils and to determine their buffer properties and susceptibility to contamination on this basis. The obtained results showed that the total acidity, mineral alkalinity and chloride content in the studied soils reduced after the contamination with the landfill leachate. While the chloride content, general hardness and general alkalinity increased. It has been found that the effect of infiltration of the landfill leachate was the significant reduction of mineral substances due to their washout of the soil profile. It has also been shown that the studied landfill leachate contained substantial quantities of substances favourable to the plant growth.

Opis:
Perennial flooding has become a major feature in urban areas in developing economies generating research interest towards finding alternative approaches to stormwater management which could complement the existing systems and help address the challenge of flooding. One of such alternative approaches is nature-based stormwater management and flood control, the implementation of which could be affected by soil erosion. This paper, as part of a wider research, was developed to determine the extent of the threat of soil erosion to stormwater management in an urban area on the example of Greater Accra Metropolitan Area, Accra Ghana as the focus of the research. Landsat 8 images (2014) were used in the research to prepare the Landcover maps. Daily rainfall data from 6 raingauge stations from 1972 to 2014 were utilized to prepare the rainfall erosivity factor maps, whereas DEM was used to prepare the slope and slope length (SL) factor maps. The land cover map with an overall accuracy of 73.6 and Kappa 0.7122 was combined with literature sources to prepare the vegetative cover factor map, and conservation practice factor map. A soil series map, prepared and updated with literature sources and data from the Harmonized World Soil Database on physical parameters, was used to calculate the soil erodibility factor (K factor) for each soil series. These were integrated into RUSLE model as 30 m raster maps to generate a soil loss map at tons/ha/yr. The results produced rainfall erosivity index values based on the modified Fournier index ranging between 0.058 and 23.197 which is classified as low. Low soil erodibility factor (K) ranging between 2.9×10–5 and 8.5×10–2 t ha/MJ mm indicated low susceptibility to erosion, SL factor value showing areas of low to almost flat relief with a few isolated areas of moderate slope length were generated. A soil loss of 69,5918 tons/ha/yr classified the soils as having high potential soil loss. The results showed a very low soil loss threat of 0–5.1853 tons/Ha/yr for more than 90% of the study area. Targeted intervention for source areas with high potential soil loss will contain any threat of erosion and sediment yield to the implementation of an infiltration-based stormwater management and flood control system.

Opis:
The objective of this work was to analyze the hydrodynamic and erosive behavior of soils in the wadi Sra catchment (Central Rif, Morocco) using a mini ramp rain simulator on micro-plots of 1 m2. The plots were selected on vertisols with a slope (between 17 and 33%), considering four types of land use: cannabis cultivation, cereal cultivation, fallow land and abandoned land, with the aim of comparing and determining the effects of the land use types on infiltrability and sediment production. The simulation tests were carried out during each season, due to the variability of cultivation practices, surface conditions and prior soil moisture from one season to another. Before each simulation, the surface condition of the concerned plots was checked; it is a question of raising the rate of closed or open surfaces and covered or bare surfaces according to the quadrat points method. Laboratory tests allowed identifying the physico-chemical properties of the soil, the initial humidity, the bulk density and the porosity. The results obtained show that the final infiltration is characterized by a significant variation, between (8.32 mm/h and 70.40 mm/h). Low values concern abandoned and fallow land and very high values are recorded on plowed land (cannabis and cereal cultivation). In addition, solid transport recorded significant spatio-temporal variations, between (5.15 and 157 g/l); the maximum average values are recorded in the cannabis cultivation plots, followed by abandoned land, then fallow land and cereal cultivation land.

Regulation of surface runoff in urban areas with temporary delay by infiltration basins of rainwater in the places of their precipitation and with gradual drainage through the existing reservoirs of small diameters is the most appropriate under the conditions of intensive building development, wear and imperfection of surface drainage systems, especially combined sewerage. Evaluation of application conditions and basic parameters of infiltration basins in surface drainage regulation was carried out on the basis of own experimental studies of infiltration basin fragment with upper typical vegetation layer, numerical computer modeling of surface runoff formation in urban areas, its regulation using infiltration basins and analysis of previous studies. Its water absorption, filtration and clearing indicators were defined on the basis of experimental studies. The self-regenerative restoring function of a vegetative layer, working conditions under the flooded and not flooded conditions were established and defined. According to the amount of suspended solids, BOD, oxidation, pH and dissolved oxygen, the quality of rain runoff when filtering water through the upper vegetation layers of infiltration basins decreases to the normative values.

Opis:
Effects of the stored dust-like zinc and iron containing wastes of the mining and processing industry consist of the loss of valuable components and environmental pollution. Thus, the goals of the research were to analyse ecological conditions under the technogenic impact at the waste storage site and to study transformations of the stored dust-like zinc and iron containing wastes in the active supergene zone. Materials are based on the physical laboratory-modelled infiltration of the atmospheric precipitation waters through the zinc and iron containing wastes. Methods include systematically- structured analysis of wastes and disposal site and laboratory techniques (X-ray fluorescence and atomic emission spectrometry). On the basis of laboratory research and field observations of the environmental components in the impact area of the storage of dust-like zinc and iron containing wastes, the article describes regularities of formation of hydrogeochemical halos of contamination by heavy metals and iron. The results also include the description of changes in physico-chemical groundwater composition under the storage area.
