Opis:
Solid-phase spectrophotometry is one of the effective methods for detecting heavy metals in water. Environmental monitoring of the content of heavy metal ions in the aquatic environment is an urgent task for controlling the quality of wastewater from enterprises, as well as studying their impact on natural water bodies. In this study, an rapid and easy-to-use method for the determination of a number of heavy metals by solid-phase spectrophotometry was developed.

Opis:
Fires in natural ecosystems cause catastrophic consequences on a global scale. These fires are caused by landscape-transforming factors, which include dust and gas pollution of the atmosphere, destruction of forests and living organisms, pollution of ecosystems with dangerous toxic compounds and heavy metals. The aim of the presented research is to investigate the influence of ground forest fires on the concentration of mobile forms of heavy metals in different soil horizons. Sampling of soils of pyrogenic origin was carried out from 4 plots according to operating standards on the territory of Rava-Rusky forestry near the village of Lavrykiv, Zhovkva district, Lviv region (Ukraine). Soil sampling for investigation of migration of heavy metals was carried out taking into account the number of years spent after burning of meadow vegetation and forest litter. The most contaminated with heavy metals is site #2 (completely burned out 2 years before the experiment). There is a significant accumulation of cadmium in edaphic horizons (0.31 – 0.66 mg/kg), the value is close to the maximum allowable concentrations for soils (0.7 mg/kg). Also in this area the highest content of mobile forms of nickel (1.52 – 2.80 mg/kg) was detected, while the maximum allowable concentrations for soils is 4 mg/kg. The lowest content of heavy metals is in the site #1, which was exposed to fire long before the start of monitoring – 3.5 years. Here the values of mobile forms of heavy metals are close to the background. Vegetation in burnt areas at the first year of post-pyrogenic development is characterized by spontaneous single species. In 2–3 years it is characterized by a group arrangement. Complete natural overgrowth of the burnt area (natural vegetative reclamation) occurs 4–5 years after combustion. Monitoring the impact of ground forest fires on the concentration of heavy metals in edaphic horizons is important in terms of environmental renaturalization and the development of preventive measures for forest fires and fires in natural ecosystems.

Opis:
Drought is generally associated with the persistence of low precipitation amount, decreased soil moisture and water availability relative to the normal levels in a designated area. The effects of drought, range from the morphological to molecular levels, and are evident at all phenological stages of the plant growth, at whatever stage the water deficit occurs. Determination of the surface water demands for irrigation purposes comes out from the assumption of hydrologic processes stationarity. This paper shows our research prerequisite that water stress participates in an important part on the volume changes of over ground parts, which is predictive for the irrigation demand. Malus domestica var. Yellow Transparent was chosen for the measurement of volume changes of the surface plant parts. Our measurements were realised by the Diameter dendrometer small (DD-S) from 24.08. to 13.09.2017. One tree was irrigated by the dose of 50 mm. We compared the dendrometric changes to soil moisture and rainfall on both irrigated and non-irrigated trees. The experiment showed the differences between the irrigated apple tree (the diameters of the branches fluctuated between 11.9 and 12.1 mm) and the non-irrigated apple tree (the diameter of the branches increased after three-day rain from 8.35 to 8.61 mm), in order to determine the water stress of plants based on dendrometric changes and optimize irrigation during the drought period.

Opis:
Estuaries are coastal areas that have a fairly high fertility rate. This region can be said to be fertile because it is influenced by such physical factors as temperature, turbidity, light, and current as well as such chemical factors as salinity, dissolved oxygen, pH, and nutrient content. The estuary of the Banjar Kemuning River is a coastal area with a lot of human activities, and it is close to the mainland, causing the change in the nutrient content in the waters. The nutrient content in the waters is closely related to the phytoplankton abundance, as the higher the nutrient content in the waters, the greater the phytoplankton abundance and the chlorophyll-a content. The level of chlorophyll-a content in the waters can indirectly be used as an indicator of the phytoplankton abundance, which can determine the level of fertility of these waters. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the phytoplankton abundance and the chlorophyll-a content in the estuary of the Banjar Kemuning River. This study is observational research with data analysis using linear regression, simple correlation (Pearson), and ANOVA. In addition, the data collection was carried out by purposive random sampling at predetermined points of stations. The results of this study indicated that the phytoplankton abundance and the chlorophyll-a content at the estuary of Banjar Kemuning River during different months were significantly different (P < 0.05). The average phytoplankton abundance during the study was 19,256 cells/L, 19,044 cells/L, and 22,613 cells/L, while the average chlorophyll-a content during the study was 0.958 µg/L, 0.998 µg/L, and 1.167 µg/L. The conclusion was drawn that there is a difference between the phytoplankton abundance and the chlorophyll-a content each month and classified into high correlation.
