The paper looks into the issues related to the monitoring of land use change by voivodeship marshals in Poland. The author intended to provoke the academic circles to devote more attention to this matter as well. The analysis involved the publicly available materials and the information from websites of 16 marshal offices and Polish acts of law made available in the Online Database of Legal Acts. The paper includes an analysis of the changes in land use monitoring legislation in Poland and when the obligation was first introduced. It was further verified whether all the offices publish the documents relevant to the monitoring. It was found out that half of the voivodeships failed to publish the materials related to the performance of this statutory task. This results in a varied availability of the documents and prevents potentially interested parties from familiarising themselves with the land use change monitoring issues.

Refuse Derived Fuels are used as energy carrier mainly in cement plants; however, more and more often they are applied in power plants as a substitute for fossil fuels. In order to prepare a proper waste-to-energy investment, the availability of the fuel, as well as fuel properties should be determined. The article presented the amounts of generated RDF in Poland, number installation which produced RDF in 2019 and 2020 and amounts of incinerated RDF in cement and incineration plants. The amount of generated RDF is rather constant – about 2.5 million Mg/year. RDF is mainly incinerated in cement plants – about 1.5 million Mg/year. The article also presented general physicochemical analysis of several RDF samples and coal. Some of the RDF samples reached high energy parameters – low heating value up to 25 MJ/kg; however, the properties vary a lot, due to their heterogeneous character, technological process of their production and other factors. In practice, the requested parameters and amount of RDF are established and the RDF producer prepares and delivers the fuel according to the concluded contract.

Potential water resources in the upstream part of the Komering sub-watershed, in March each year ranges from 645.49 m3/sec. With a debit of that size, it should be able to increase national agricultural production in South Sumatra, Indonesia. However, in August – September, the discharge of water availability in the upstream part of the Komering sub-watershed decreased to only 43.08 m3/sec. To analyze the reduced mainstay discharge of the Upstream Komering sub-watershed, due to poor land use practices in the upstream area and the effects of climate variability, it can be analyzed by analyzing land cover conditions, the value of rain variability, and the magnitude of evapotranspiration and validation of direct measurement of river discharge in the field. Changes in land use for the upstream part of the Komering sub-watershed, which are used mostly by residents as community plantation areas, have increased the critical condition of the upstream Komering sub-watershed area of 2,517,560 Km2, or about 65.66% of the total upstream Komering sub-watershed. From the measurement of debit data at the Perjaya Dam in the last fifteen years (2005–2019), the largest main discharge value in 2 weeks to two months in April was 241.67 m3/sec, while the smallest mainstay discharge occurred in the first 2 weeks of October at 54.69 m3/sec. A large difference between the largest and smallest mainstay discharge, it is necessary to think of a way so that the availability of water is always maintained throughout the year (the difference between the mainstay discharge between the rainy season and the dry season so that it is not so extreme). Some ways that can be done to maintain the availability of water include making a reservoir that can be used during the dry season, or increasing storage in the soil by reforestation and harvesting rain.

This article is an attempt to show changes which concern social state of inhabitants living in Biebrza National Park communes, in terms of their equipment of water supply and sewage system and accessibility to basic educational facilities, such as primary and junior high schools. Multi-indicator characteristics was performed for time interval equal to 13 years (from 2001 to 2014), with 3–5 year step, i.e: 2001, 2004, 2009, 2014. Information was based on statistical data of Central Statistical Office, available in Local Data Bank (LDB). The assessment of socio-spatial availability has been based on the measures showing the given indicator in relation to the area or the number of population. The conducted analysis allowed to show differences in life quality of inhabitants living in communes where development highly depend on environmental factors. Except for actual state, attached graphics show the rate of change for socio-technical infrastructure, which is basic for sustainable development.

This study aimed to analyze the available amount of water in the Dragaçina River to meet the different water needs in the Municipality of Suhareka. The water problems in this city are more pronounced, especially in the vegetation period of July–September, where the area is significantly affected by drought. The Dragacina River carries about 10 hm3 of water per year, and affected neither by urbanism nor massive deforestation of the basin. However, there are no multi-year measurements of inflows for this river, whether they are average, maximum or minimum ones. Therefore, the study is based on several multi-annual monthly rainfall measurements and some characteristics of the Dragaçina River Basin. Knowing the average annual flow coefficient η = Peff / Pbruto it is possible to convert these precipitations to Peff [mm] flow and then to monthly flow. The inputs for other years from 1983/84 onwards are obtained by simulating time series. Then, for such inflows, the probability distribution functions of small waters are assigned and the usable volume balance is carried out. Assuming an average annual withdrawal from the reservoir QAmin mes. = 0.63 × Qmes. which should be constant throughout the years, then the length of the critical period will be 0.13 years or approximately 48 days, for PH = 95%. Starting from the initial acquired volume of 1 hm3 it is possible to achieve 95% < PH < 99%. Therefore, it follows from this analysis that this river can provide a significant amount of water for the needs of the Municipality of Suhareka.

Physical and water properties of silt loam from the area of planned football field were tested and compared with analogous properties of several composites made in laboratory conditions from the collected material with a dominant sand share. The research was conducted in a view of silt loam and its composites usefulness for constructing a carrying layer of football fields. Water permeability of silt loam and composites, as well as retention abilities were tested. The created composites met the water permeability requirements specified by DIN 18035 standard for constructing carrying layer of football fields. On the other hand, silt loam without sand admixture did not meet the requirements, but revealed a high retention capacity and water availability to plants. Among the composites the best retention capacity characterised the mixtures with the biggest content of silt loam, but the best water availability was registered in composites with medium content of silt loam from the football field area. The obtained results may be useful for more precise determination of the standards for grain size distribution of the composites used for constructing the carrying layer of a football field.

The West Kazakhstan region of the Republic of Kazakhstan occupies an area equal to 151,339 km2. In the land structure, 69.7% of the area is occupied by agricultural land. The region has great prospects for the development of the livestock industry. However, uneven territorial availability of water resources is a limiting factor in increasing the amount of livestock in the region. The purpose of the study is to monitor underground water sources in the West Kazakhstan region of the Republic of Kazakhstan to assess the zonality of their placement. The boundaries of natural and climatic zones on the territory of the region were laid over the publicly available cartographic materials on the hydrological data of the distribution of groundwater. The water source monitoring was carried out by examining their actual condition in specific geographical locations, including using remote sensing methods, with a further determination of quantitative and qualitative parameters. The paper considers the state and problems of water supply at the pastures in the natural and climatic zones of the West Kazakhstan region. The region is characterized by the use of groundwater in the water supply of pasture lands. Underground springs have a certain zonality in their location, manifest themselves at different depths corresponding to different geological horizons, and differ in a wide variation of water mineralization. In the dry steppe zone, it is recommended to use the aquiferous mid-upper quaternary alluvial, aquiferous upper Pliocene Akchagyl, and aquiferous upper cretaceous Maastricht horizons. The water sources used have depths of up to 120 meters, and the mineralization varies from 0.2 to 9.1 g/dm3. In the semi-desert zone, the upper-quaternary aquiferous marine Khvalynsky and the lower-middle-quaternary aquiferous marine Baku-Khazar horizons are recommended. The water sources used have depths of up to 90 meters, and the mineralization varies from 0.2 to 11.8 g/dm3. The semi-desert zone is characterized by the use of springs with depths up to 80 meters. The mineralization of water in the permeable modern Aeolian horizon is more often low (0.11–0.9 g/dm3) and rarely brackish (1.1–9.36 g/dm3).
