Opis:
Rich geometric models of the environment are needed for robots to carry out their missions. However a robot operating in a large environment would require a compact representation. In this article, we present a method that relies on the idea that a plane appears as a line segment in a 2D scan, and that by tracking those lines frame after frame, it is possible to estimate the parameters of that plane. The method is divided in three steps: fitting line segments on the points of the 2D scan, tracking those line segments in consecutive scan and estimating the parameters with a graph based SLAM (Simultaneous Localisation And Mapping) algorithm.

Opis:
In this paper, a low cost mobile robot with a modular design that permits the easy change of the number of wheels is considered for generation of 3D digital maps by using ROS tools and a 3D light detection and distance measurement (LiDAR) sensor. The modular robot is thought for travelling through several environments with saving the energy by changing the number and arrangement of the wheels according to the environment. The presented robot can construct a 3D map in particular structured environment and the running performance was investigated by an extensive characterization. Furthermore, in light of the experimental tests, a new simple algorithm based exclusively of the processing of the LiDAR data is proposed with the aim of characterizing the surrounding environment with fixed landmarks and mobile targets. Finally, the limits of this prototype and of the proposed algorithm have been analyzed, highlighting new improvements in the future perspective development for permitting an autonomous environment perception with a simple, modular and low-cost device.

Opis:
The article presents a navigation system based on 3D camera and laser scanner capable of detecting a wide range of obstacles in indoor environment. First, existing methods of 3D scene data acquisition are presented. Then the new navigation system gathering data from various sensors (e.g. 3D cameras and laser scanners) is described in a formal way, as well as exemplary applications that verify the approach.

Opis:
The field of remote sensing is an area of science and technology that has undergone rapid development in recent years. This paper focuses primarily on how to exploit the capabilities made available by remote sensing and how to put them to use by combining them with a sys-temic approach to design and analysis in various measurement and control applications. The emphasis is placed on high-resolution satellite and Lidar sensors – the most prevalent remote sensing technologies. Following the presentation of some general issues related to low- and high-level processing of remote sensing data, such as data dimensionality reduction, data fusion, and change detection, the paper provides examples of control-related applications of remote sensing technologies. It is argued that successful exploitation of new generations of remote sensing technologies will require extensive development of new algorithms based on a variety of approaches, such as machine vision, statistical learning, and artificial intelligence.

Opis:
The capability of a robot to follow autonomously a person highly enhances its usability when humans and robots collaborate. In this paper we present a system for autonomous following of a walking person in outdoor environments while avoiding static and dynamic obstacles. The principal sensor is a 3D LIDAR with a resolution of 59x29 points. We present a combination of 3D features, motion detection and tracking with a sampling Bayesian filter which results in reliable person detection for a lowresolu tion 3D-LIDAR. The method is implemented on an outdoor robot with car-like steering, which incorporates the target's path into its own path planning around local obstacles. Experiments in outdoor areas validate the approach.
