Opis:
The purpose of this paper is to study the two dimensional deformation in a generalized thermoelastic medium with microtemperatures having an internal heat source subjected to a mechanical force. The force is acting along the interface of generalized thermoelastic half space and generalized thermoelastic half space with microtemperatures having an internal heat source. The normal mode analysis has been applied to obtain the exact expressions for the considered variables. The effect of internal heat source and microtemperatures on the above components has been depicted graphically.

Opis:
Thermal stresses of a functionally graded hollow thick cylinder due to non-uniform internal heat generation are studied in this paper. Analytical solutions are obtained with radially varying properties by using the theory of elasticity. Thermal stresses distribution for different values of the powers of the module of elasticity and varying power law index of heat generation are studied. The results have been computed numerically and illustrated graphically.

Opis:
The present study is based on the nonlinear bending analysis of an FGM plate with Von-Karman strain based on the non-linear classical plate theory (NLCPT) with in-plane displacement and moderate rotation. Non-linear bending analysis based on stresses and transverse deflections is then carried out for the plate for the complex solution obtained using an analytical method viz. Navier’s method. The equations of motion and boundary conditions are obtained using the Principle of Minimum Potential Energy (PMPE) method and material property is graded in thickness direction according to simple power-law distribution in terms of volume fractions of the constituents. The effect of the span-to-thickness ratio and FGM exponent on the maximum central deflection and stresses are studied. The results show that the response is transitional with respect to ceramic and metal and the complex solution predicts the real behavior of stresses and deflections in the functionally graded plate. The functionally graded plate is found to be more effective for moderately thick and thick plates, which is inferred by a complex nature of the solution. For FGM plates, the transverse deflection is in-between to that of metal and ceramic rich plates. The complex nature of the solution also gives information about the stress distribution in the thickness direction.

Opis:
In this paper, we investigate the combined effect of internal heating and time periodic gravity modulation in a viscoelastic fluid saturated porous medium by reducing the problem into a complex non-autonomous Ginzgburg-Landau equation. Weak nonlinear stability analysis has been performed by using power series expansion in terms of the amplitude of gravity modulation, which is assumed to be small. The Nusselt number is obtained in terms of the amplitude for oscillatory mode of convection. The influence of viscoelastic parameters on heat transfer has been discussed. Gravity modulation is found to have a destabilizing effect at low frequencies and a stabilizing effect at high frequencies. Finally, it is found that overstability advances the onset of convection, more with internal heating. The conditions for which the complex Ginzgburg-Landau equation undergoes Hopf bifurcation and the amplitude equation undergoes supercritical pitchfork bifurcation are studied.

Opis:
An analysis of an oscillatory magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) convective flow of a second order (viscoelastic), incompressible, and electrically conducting fluid through a porous medium bounded by two infinite vertical parallel porous plates is presented. The two porous plates with slip-flow condition and the no-slip condition are subjected respectively to a constant injection and suction velocity. The pressure gradient in the channel varies periodically with time. A magnetic field of uniform strength is applied in the direction perpendicular to the planes of the plates. The induced magnetic field is neglected due to the assumption of a small magnetic Reynolds number. The temperature of the plate with no-slip condition is non-uniform and oscillates periodically with time and the temperature difference of the two plates is assumed high enough to induce heat radiation. The entire system rotates in unison about the axis perpendicular to the planes of the plates. Adopting complex variable notations, a closed form solution of the problem is obtained. The analytical results are evaluated numerically and then presented graphically to discuss in detail the effects of different parameters of the problem. The velocity, temperature and the skin-friction in terms of its amplitude and phase angle have been shown graphically to observe the effects of the viscoelastic parameter γ, rotation parameter Ω, suction parameter […], Grashof number Gr, Hartmann number M, the pressure A, Prandtl number Pr, radiation parameter N and the frequency of oscillation […].

Opis:
Laminar natural convection in a trapezoidal porous vertical cavity has been investigated in this work. It is assumed that the porous enclosure is filled up with a permeable material subject to hydrodynamic and thermal anisotropy, the flow being governed by the Darcy law as applicable to a non-isotropic medium. It is further assumed that (i) there is heating at the left vertical wall and cooling at the right wall of the enclosure and (ii) the flow domain is subject to the presence of heat source or heat sink. The partial differential equations governing the resulting free convection have been solved numerically in the non-dimensional forms. There arises a number of parameters relating to buoyancy, internal heating, cavity aspect ratio and inclination of the upper surface to the horizontal. The influence of these parameters has been illustrated and analyzed through contours of streamlines and isotherms. We have also discussed the role of internal heating as well as anisotropy on the heat transfer characteristics.

Opis:
This paper presents a study of a hydromagnetic free convection flow of an electrically conducting micropolar fluid past a vertical plate through a porous medium with a heat source, taking into account the homogeneous chemical reaction of first order. A uniform magnetic field has also been considered in the study which acts perpendicular to the porous surface of the above plate. The analysis has been done by assuming varying permeability of the medium and the Rosseland approximation has been used to describe the radiative heat flux in the energy equation. Numerical results are presented graphically in the form of velocity, micro- rotation, concentration and temperature profiles, the skin-friction coefficient, the couple stress coefficient, the rate of heat and mass transfers at the wall for different material parameters. The study clearly demonstrates how a chemical reaction influences the above parameters under given conditions.
