Opis:
Travel time is a fundamental measure in any transportation system. With the development of technology, travel time can be automatically collected by a variety of advanced sensors. However, limited by objective conditions, it is difficult for any sensor system to cover the whole transportation network in real time. In order to estimate the travel time of the whole transportation network, this paper gives a system of linear equations which is constructed by the user equilibrium (UE) principle and observed data. The travel time of a link which is not covered by a sensor can be calculated by using the observed data collected by sensors. In a typical transportation network, the minimum number and location of sensors to estimate the travel time of the whole network are given based on the properties of the solution of a systems of linear equations. The results show that, in a typical network, the number and location of sensors follow a certain law. The results of this study can provide reference for the development of transportation and provide a scientific basis for transportation planning.

Opis:
Travel time estimation for freeways has attracted much attention from researchers and traffic management departments. Because of various uncertain factors, travel time on a freeway is stochastic. To obtain travel time estimates for a freeway accurately, this paper proposes two traffic sensor location models that consider minimizing the error of travel time estimation and maximizing the collected traffic flow. First, a dynamic optimal location model of the mobile sensor is proposed under the assumption that there are no traffic sensors on a freeway. Next, a dynamic optimal combinatorial model of adding mobile sensors taking account of fixed sensors on a freeway is presented. It should be pointed out that the technology of data fusion will be adopted to tackle the collected data from multiple sensors in the second optimization model. Then, a simulated annealing algorithm is established to find the solutions of the proposed two optimization models. Numerical examples demonstrate that dynamic optimization of mobile sensor locations for the estimation of travel times on a freeway is more accurate than the conventional location model.

Opis:
We consider the problem of joint estimation of states and some constant parameters for a class of nonlinear discrete-time systems. This class contains systems that could be transformed into a quasi-LPV (linear parameter varying) polytopic model in the Takagi–Sugeno (T–S) form. Such systems could have unmeasured premise variables, a case usually overlooked in the observer design literature. We assert that, for such systems in discrete-time, the current literature lacks design strategies for joint state and parameter estimation. To this end, we adapt the existing literature on continuous-time linear systems for joint state and time-varying parameter estimation. We first develop the discrete-time version of this result for linear systems. A Lyapunov approach is used to illustrate stability, and bounds for the estimation error are obtained via the bounded real lemma. We use this result to achieve our objective for a design procedure for a class of nonlinear systems with constant parameters. This results in less conservative conditions and a simplified design procedure. A basic waste water treatment plant simulation example is discussed to illustrate the design procedure.

Opis:
This paper studies recursive optimal filtering as well as robust fault and state estimation for linear stochastic systems with unknown disturbances. It proposes a new recursive optimal filter structure with transformation of the original system. This transformation is based on the singular value decomposition of the direct feedthrough matrix distribution of the fault which is assumed to be of arbitrary rank. The resulting filter is optimal in the sense of the unbiased minimum-variance criteria. Two numerical examples are given in order to illustrate the proposed method, in particular to solve the estimation of the simultaneous actuator and sensor fault problem and to make a comparison with the existing literature results.

Opis:
Nonlinear dynamic processes with time-varying time delays can often be encountered in industry. Time-delay estimation for nonlinear dynamic systems with time-varying time delays is an important issue for system identification. In order to estimate the dynamics of a process, a dynamic neural network with an external recurrent structure is applied in the modeling procedure. In the case where a delay is time varying, a useful way is to develop on-line time-delay estimation mechanisms to track the time-delay variation. In this paper, two schemes called direct and indirect time-delay estimators are proposed. The indirect time-delay estimator considers the procedure of time-delay estimation as a nonlinear programming problem. On the other hand, the direct time-delay estimation scheme applies a neural network to construct a time-delay estimator to track the time-varying time-delay. Finally, a numerical example is considered for testing the proposed methods.

Opis:
The problem of state estimation of a continuous-time stochastic process using an Asynchronous Distributed multi-sensor Estimation (ADE) system is considered. The state of a process of interest is estimated by a group of local estimators constituting the proposed ADE system. Each estimator is based, e.g., on a Kalman filter and performs single sensor filtration and fusion of its local results with the results from other/remote processors to compute possibly the best state estimates. In performing data fusion, however, two important issues need to be addressed namely, the problem of asynchronism of local processors and the issue of unknown correlation between asynchronous data in local processors. Both the problems, along with their solutions, are investigated in this paper. Possible applications and effectiveness of the proposed ADE approach are illustrated by simulated experiments, including a non-complete connection graph of such a distributed estimation system.

A stage-structured population model with unknown parameters is considered. Our purpose is to study the identifiability of the model and to develop a parameter estimation procedure. First, we analyze whether the parameter vector can or cannot uniquely be determined with the knowledge of the input-output behavior of the model. Second, we analyze how the information in the experimental data is translated into the parameters of the model. Furthermore, we propose a process to improve the recursive values of the parameters when successive observation data are considered. The structure of the state matrix leads to an analysis of the inverse of a sum of rank-one matrices.

Opis:
A systematic fault tolerant control (FTC) scheme based on fault estimation for a quadrotor actuator, which integrates normal control, active and passive FTC and fault parking is proposed in this paper. Firstly, an adaptive Thau observer (ATO) is presented to estimate the quadrotor rotor fault magnitudes, and then faults with different magnitudes and time-varying natures are rated into corresponding fault severity levels based on the pre-defined fault-tolerant boundaries. Secondly, a systematic FTC strategy which can coordinate various FTC methods is designed to compensate for failures depending on the fault types and severity levels. Unlike former stand-alone passive FTC or active FTC, our proposed FTC scheme can compensate for faults in a way of condition-based maintenance (CBM), and especially consider the fatal failures that traditional FTC techniques cannot accommodate to avoid the crashing of UAVs. Finally, various simulations are carried out to show the performance and effectiveness of the proposed method.

The problem of on-line identification of non-stationary delay systems is considered. The dynamics of supervised industrial processes are usually modeled by ordinary differential equations. Discrete-time mechanizations of continuous-time process models are implemented with the use of dedicated finite-horizon integrating filters. Least-squares and instrumental variable procedures mechanized in recursive forms are applied for simultaneous identification of input delay and spectral parameters of the system models. The performance of the proposed estimation algorithms is verified in an illustrative numerical simulation study.

Opis:
This paper considers the problem of fault-tolerant control (FTC) and fault reconstruction of actuator faults for linear parameter varying (LPV) descriptor systems with time delay. A polytopic sliding mode observer (PSMO) is synthesized to achieve simultaneous reconstruction of LPV polytopic descriptor system states and actuator faults. Exploiting the reconstructed actuator faults and state estimates, a fault-tolerant controller is designed to compensate the impact of actuator faults on system performance by stabilizing the closed-loop LPV delayed descriptor system. Besides, the controller and PSMO gains are obtained throughout the resolution of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) using convex optimization techniques. The developed PSMO could force the output estimation error to converge to zero in a finite time when the actuators faults are bounded through the reinjection of the output estimation error via a nonlinear switching term. Simulation results applied to a given numerical system are presented to highlight the superiority and effectiveness of the proposed approach.
