Opis:
The issue of social support for the family seems to be very current and significant, especially nowadays, i.e. in the time of fast changes, globalization and consumerism. Parents raising children with intellectual disability experience many kinds of difficulties which are often impossible to deal with without external support. One of the most important forms of such help is information support, which can be defined as providing information on the child’s development, the methods of coping with difficulties, as well as education, treatment and therapy and the possibilities of support. The research group included 80 parents of children with moderate and severe intellectual disabilities. The mothers and fathers answered questions about people, institutions and organizations from which they expected to receive information support. They also stated their expectations about the kinds and forms of information support they needed.

Opis:
This article consists of three parts. The first made the characteristics of paradigm shifts in the perception of intellectual disability – from the medical model to the social and political and disability in terms of emancipation. The second part is dedicated to the rear movement of parents of persons with disabilities in a sociological theory of social movements and contemporary understanding of new forms of community. The third section presents the most important stages of development of the movement of parents of persons with disabilities in Poland since the 60s to today, indicating the author's classification functions that they perform in the context of emancipation. The author at the beginning of the article poses the question of the role of parents in motion the creation of conditions for the emancipation of people with intellectual disabilities. At the same time it indicates that the movement of the parents may contribute to the emancipation of people with disabilities, by presenting them as autonomous individuals who deserve equal treatment, to support their autonomy and strengthening the sense of agency. Initiatives taken by the parents, or established with their participation entities, they tend to emphasize the role of socio professional people with intellectual disabilities. The change at the same time is the media image of the same disabilities as people with talents, skills, resources or social skills at a high level. On the other hand, the movement of the parents may also contribute to the limitations of the emancipation of people with intellectual disabilities. The emphasis on the social question could result in the presentation and reception with disabilities as dependent, in need of constant care – a consequence as a category helpless in life and socially. Indication of the emancipation of people with disabilities through active participation of parents in the public discourse enables better draw public attention to disability, which may contribute to the better understanding.

Acquiring blindness or low vision at the senior age usually results in decreased quality of life due to a decrease in functional performance in the areas of activities of everyday activities, spatial orientation and mobility, physical activity, spending free time and obtaining information. Loss of vision also implies serious emotional consequences, which in the absence of professional therapeutic help and social support can lead to mental health disorders. Research analyses indicate that the level of satisfying rehabilitation needs of seniors who are losing vision is relatively low, and the specificity of their functioning resulting from the coexistence of various health problems is rarely included in support programs. The aim of the article is to indicate areas that have been so far neglected in the rehabilitation of elderly people who have acquired visual impairment and to formulate proposals aimed at increasing the availability and quality of therapeutic services for this social group.

The paper was devoted to the issue of social functioning of Polish higher education institution students online. The internet is a social space, which offers opportunities for civic engagement, and online political activism; it can also be a place of interactions, such as social support, which lead to the improvement of individual mental well-being. The paper outlines some of the results of a study carried out as part of a State Agency for the Prevention of Alcohol-Related Problems project (40/3.4.3/19/DEA) in 2019 on a group of 4503 women and men, studying at Polish higher education institutions. The tool used to study the support was the Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale, complemented by statements concerning online support. In order to investigate the phenomenon of social and civic engagement, the study used a scale of 14 statements, developed by Mateusz Marciniak. The results showed that the majority of the respondents (ca. 70%) never engaged in online fundraising campaigns, did not engage in political disputes online (more than 75%) and did not seek social support on the internet.

Opis:
This article characterizes the interactions and institutions in which parents can receive support after their child has been diagnosed with a lethal defect. First and foremost parents need information and emotional support when making decision regarding their child. The primary source of the aforementioned elements is the hospital personnel and the perinatal hospice- that is if parents decide to contact it. If the child is born alive and discharged from the hospital then the parents require support during its treatment (which more often than not is identical with palliativecare) and rehabilitation, even social rehabilitation. Children’s hospices can offer many services in this particular matter. On each stage of the child’s disease the contact with other parents of children with lethal defect is crucial. They can negate the feeling of isolation, give practical advice regarding the situation and most of all give hope that even though the prognosis is fatal some of the children lived.

Opis:
New media are the tools that support human’s intellectual functioning. For many people with disabilities they may become the sole opportunity for accessing information, communicating, learning or working. On the other hand, new media also provide a space for social interactions that could affect the process of coping with critical events, both ordinary and traumatic ones. The key concept for the discussion is internet-based social support, defined as support available online to a person dealing with a critical event which needs to be overcome with external resources coming from virtual groups comprising people experiencing difficulties of a similar nature, in the past or currently. The author posed the question whether internet social support is ubiquitous, and what it manifests itself. To answer this, she conducted quantitative and qualitative research. The data collected then became thebasis for analysis and theoretical considerations.
