- The article is an analysis of a passage from a no longer extant text by a Greek historian Timaios (FGrH 566 F131) that survived in the form of a quotation in the works of six later authors. The form in which the passage has survived poses a number of interpretation problems which, in turn, lead to the question of the significance of a narrative context in historical analysis.
