Opis:
The long-term erosional history of the Karkonosze Granite Massif is revised and reconstructed using different sources of information, including the sedimentary record of adjacent basins, previously published low-temperature thermochronological data and geomorphic features. Although the evidence is still incomplete, this work has identified a number of intervals, of unequal duration, characterized by different denudation regimes and rates. Several major phases of rapid exhumation are inferred - in the Permian and the Early Triassic as seen in the sedimentary record, and in the Late Cretaceous as shown by both the thermochronological and sedimentary records. Neotectonic uplift of the Karkonosze Mts. in the late Cenozoic is not recorded in the thermochronological record and there is no evidence of any accelerated denudation close to the massif. Apatite fission track data show that >~3.6 km of rock must have been eroded since the Turonian, while the results of zircon (U-Th)/He analysis suggest that in places erosion of >~6 km of rock must have taken place. This picture differs from previous estimates of denudat ion which suggested that only 2-2.5 km has been eroded from the axial part of the Karkonosze dome since the exposure of granite batholith in the Permian.

Opis:
The Sudetes is a block-faulted mountain range in Central Europe, at the NE margin of the Bohemian Massif. In the late Cenozoic it has been subject to differen ial up lift and subsidence and currently represents a horst-and-graben structure, superimposed on older relief due to rock-controlled denudation and erosion. In this paper, the distribution of steep slopes (>15grade and >25grade) is analyzed using a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) of 50 m spatial resolution, and their morphotectonic significance is discussed. Steep slopes occur in four major settings: heavily dissected and most elevated highlands, straight mountain fronts, narrow sinuous escarpments, and deeply incisedriver valleys. The former in particular may indicate areas subject to recent uplift, which is followed by efficient fluvial incision, so that little pre-up lift topography has survived. The image of many mountain fronts on the slope map is rather poor, which may be explained by the mechanical weakness of the rock building the footwall. At the sametime, the association of the majority of tectonically-induced steep slopes with the most resistant rocks suggests that the intensity of recent uplift is generally low compared with the long-term rates of denudation and erosion.

Opis:
The paper focuses on a large relict landslide complex in the northeastern part of the Kamienne Mts. (Sudetes, SW Poland) developed on Carboniferous and Permian volcanic and clastic sedimentary rocks. Whilst the presence of mass movements around Mt. Rogowiec has long been known, no attempts have yet been made to offer a comprehensive analysis. This study is based on recognition of geomorphic features from LiDAR-derived DTM, geomorphometric analysis, field geomorphological mapping, joint measurements at representative exposures, and electrical resistivity tomography. The total area affected by gravitational slope deformation exceeds 40 ha and consists of a few smaller units that show distinctive patterns of displacement. The eastern slopes of the Mt. Rogowiec ridge have been reshaped by large slides involving rigid blocks of trachyandesite in the upper part and deformed sedimentary successions in the middle and lower part. The central part of the area has experienced lateral spreading which resulted in complete disintegration of the volcanic cap. Fresh-looking ridge-top trenches indicate that this process is ongoing. Subsequent movements included flows into pre-existing valleys and rock wall collapses to produce spectacular block streams. The scale and variety of deformation structures at Mt. Rogowiec make this locality unique in the Sudetes.
