Opis:
This work examines the possibility of implementing the statistical method, Compositional Data Analysis (CDA), to rock porosity measurement data. The rock samples analysed are different types of sandstones from Poland. Porosimetricmeasurements were carried out using the mercury injection capillary pressure method, together with computer image analysis. In this paper, compositions of data concerning pore distributions are analysed. Rock pores were distributed in 4 classes of pore dimensions: transitive pores, submacropores, realmacropores and over-capillary pores. Based on the CDAmethods it was revealed that: there is no constant proportion between transitive andmacropores in the sandstones analyzed; the variability of the realmacropores, over-capillary and transitive pores and the skeletal grains fraction is mainly one-dimensional. The relative variation between transitive pores and real macropores determines the variability in the sandstone stratigraphical groups; however, these groups are not very distinct as regards the pore sizes and skeletal grains proportion. The rock parameters: median pore diameter; threshold pore diameter and total pore area might be used as independent variables in equations that explain reasonable parts of variability of pore sizes and skeletal grains fraction log-ratios.

Opis:
The sub-Cambrian peneplain is well-known in Scandinavia, outcropping in Finland, Sweden and Norway. This peneplain is thought to have formed within the Baltic Sea region in Cryogenian and Ediacaran/early Cambrian time, when Baltica, a part of Rodinia for most of that time, experienced tectonic stability, strong sheet-wash weathering and glaciations. While the peneplain outcrops in the Baltic Shield region, it continues beneath Phanerozoic strata of the Baltic Basin. This buried part of the sub-Cambrian peneplain is known to have several isolated inselbergs. We interpret newly acquired 2D and 3D seismic data and show that the sub-Cambrian peneplain extends at least to Western Lithuania where the palaeotopography of the Precambrian basement changes its character from peneplain-like flat to hilly terrain with a large array of inselbergs. Even though some of the largest features of this palaeotopography have been known before, they are here demonstrated for the first time within the regional context of the sub-Cambrian peneplain.

Opis:
This paper describes in detail palynological data from the Carboniferous siliciclastic rock succession from the Siciny IG 1 and Marcinki IG 1 boreholes (SW Poland), that allow reinterpretation of the local stratigraphy. Two rock series of different ages were recognized. Rocks from the Siciny IG 1 section were assigned to the upper Arnsbergian–Alportian (the Lycospora subtriquetra–Kraeuselisporites ornatus (SO) Biozone) and the Bolsovian (the Torispora securis–Torispora laevigata (SL) Biozone). In the upper part of the Carboniferous section in the Marcinki IG 1 section the upper Arnsbergian–Alportian and Duckmantian interval (the Lycospora subtriquetra–Kraeuselisporites ornatus (SO) and the Microreticulatisporites nobilis–Florinites junior (NJ) biozones respectively) were recognized, although the quality of the palynological data from the latter borehole was generally poor. These results conflict with a Viséan age for these rocks interpreted from fossil marine macrofaunas and indicate the reworked nature of the macrofaunas. Possible means of the macrofaunal reworking, sedimentary environment and thermal history, based on the palynological data, are discussed. Repetition of the stratigraphical succession, probably due totectonic deformation of the rocks in both sections, is demonstrated and indicate a post-Bolsovian age for the deformation event.
