Opis:
The defeat of the Combined Fleet at the Battle of Midway halted the aggressive actions of Japan in the area of the central Pacific Ocean and caused the displacement of expansion towards the islands of the South Pacific. It was on one of them – Guadalcanal that was a real confrontation between Allied forces and the Empire of Japan. One of the results of landing of the United States forces on its banks on August 7, 1942, was the Battle of Savo, which took place on the night of 8/9 August 1942. In this challenge, the 8th Fleet under the command of Vice Admiral Mikawa Gunichi smashed the Allied forces. The confrontation demonstrated the superiority of the Combined Fleet over the forces of the enemy, for whom this was one of the biggest disasters in the Pacific War. However, Vice Admiral Mikawa winning the combat ships did not destroy the amphibious units whose elimination was defined as the overriding objective for the 8th Fleet.

Opis:
The aim of this article is to present events that took place near Guadalcanal Island during the battle that broke out overnight between November 12 and 13, 1942. During this battle, two forces of the US Navy and the Japanese Combined Fleet clashed. Many dramatic events took place that had a clear influence on its course. The first part presents  strategic preparations of the two sides and forces. The second part of the article discusses the course of the overnight clash. The third part discusses the losses on both sides. The result of the clash of November 12–13, 1942, was a tactical victory for Japan, which once again defeated the Americans in an overnight artillery battle. However, strategic victory belonged to the United States as they managed to frustrate all measures and plans of the Combined Fleet.

Opis:
The purpose of the article is to present the clash of the night of November 14–15, 1942, which has gone down in the history of maritime warfare as the Second Battle of Guadalcanal. It was the result of the efforts of Japan and the United States to solve the complex strategic situation on the Solomon Islands archipelago. It was  also the effect of a highpoint in the campaign, which finally ended in the defeat of the Japanese Empire. During the battle, the ills of the Japanese command system, officers’ indecision, and technological backwardness came to light. One of the elements that contributed to the American victory was air control provided by planes taking off from Henderson Field airfield. Thanks to efficient command, US Navy ships with the help of aviation inflicted considerable losses within the Japanese ranks. As a result, the Second Battle of Guadalcanal ended in the total defeat of the Empire, whose situation in the Solomon Islands deteriorated subsequently.

Opis:
The goal of this article is to present the events of the night of 11–12 October 1942, when the Imperial Japanese Navy and the US Navy battleships clashed near the island of Guadalcanal. The battle, which took place in the waters around Solomon Islands, was inseparably linked with the fierce Guadalcanal Campaign fought in 1942–1943. The first part of the article describes the units involved on each side of the conflict as well as the sides’ theoretical strategic goals in the region. The second part discusses the course of the battle in which the Americans, during the night artillery combat, demonstrated their advantage for the first time. The third part of the text presents the outcome, indicates the mistakes made and enumerates the losses sustained by each side, including those to the vessels and the crews.
