- The European Union is developing its capacity to act in the international arena while expanding the area of EU member states' influence to secure their economic and political interests. On March 2011 conclusions on the EU Strategy for Security and Development in the Sahel region were adopted. The purpose of this paper is to show the circumstances of the adoption of the Strategy, and to analyze its provisions with particular emphasis given to the mechanism of its implementation in the period 2011—2013.
