Opis:
The concept of financial liquidity is not very straight, as it has various aspects, although generally it refers to the current assets and liabilities management. Financial liquidity together with profitability are the core categories of enterprise activities which, in order to function efficiently, the company should treat as equally important. The growth of financial liquidity may negatively influence the company profitability. If the company is to liquid in the static sense than it will affect negatively the profitability since some capital will be frozen in current assets. In this article, the authors analyze theoretical aspects of the relation between liquidity and profitability, whereas the empirical part they examine this interdependence on a group of construction sector companies listed on Warsaw Stock Exchange.

Opis:
This paper aims to identify determinants of liquidity among Hungarian commercial banks. The data cover the period from 2001 to 2010. Results of panel data regression analysis show that bank liquidity is positively related to capital adequacy of banks, interest rate on loans and bank profitability and negatively related to the size of the bank, interest margin, monetary policy interest rate and the interest rate on interbank transactions. The relation between the growth rate of GDP and bank liquidity is ambiguous.

Opis:
The problem of return on current assets and return on working capital related to the cost of equity invested in a company is analyzed in this paper. Risk – return and liquidity – profitability trade-offs influence the company’s equilibrium and management decisions. Liquidity is measured by the cash conversion cycle and it is related to the working capital strategy, measured by current ratio. Rate of return on current assets should be related to the rate of return on working capital that is linked to the cost of capital and the required rate of return. The results indicate that there is a positive relationship between the return on current assets and cash conversion cycle, a positive relationship between cost of equity and return on working capital meaning that the working capital, cash conversion cycle and current assets management are related to profitability, and cost of equity is determined by the required rate of return calculated based on the Capital Asset Pricing Model.

Opis:
The present paper explores the possibility of forecasting company liquidity based on testing the coefficient of variability. Secondly, it analyzes static and dynamic liquidity measures to ascertain which are better at prediction in the traditional and technology-based sectors. It was assumed that the cash conversion cycle should be the more predictable measure and forecasts using it should be more accurate for traditional companies, but the CCC has turned out to work better for technology-based businesses listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Poland is an example of a developing market that has undergone a transformation and has not been dramatically affected by the crisis, and we believe that our research may reveal some liquidity-related economic patterns applicable not only to other in-transition and developing countries, but also to countries facing economic problems. The study was conducted on the non-financial companies listed on the WSE in the period 1997–2010.

COMPANY VALUATION

RANGE OF VALUES
Opis:
Company valuation is not done after having generated a few values being a result of applying different valuation methods. In many cases institutions ordering the valuation request a value which can be an equivalent of a market, transactional value. Often the one method (and the valuation resulting from the method) can be indicated, since the valuer claims that it gives the most precise value of the company. However, it is safer to consider the range of values and then try to determine the final value which is the result of a combination of several methods. However, the question is how to consistently deal with a range of values. One of the solutions are so-called mixed methods of company valuation. They are criticized in this paper as they are too subjective. Instead we suggest considering a portfolio approach - PATEV (Portfolio Approach to Equity Valuation). In addition to having to choose a method of defining one value, the value is subject to further corrections: liquidity and control discounts.

Monetary Policy
Opis:
One of the most significant factors which influences the level of banking sector liquidity is Currency in Circulation. Although the central bank is in charge of distribution of the currency it can’t assess the demand for the currency, as that demand is generated by the customers of commercial banks. Therefore, the amount of Currency in Circulation has to be modelled and forecasted. This paper introduces ARIMA(2,1) and SARIMA(2,1)(5,0) models with dummy variables and discusses its applicability to the forecasting of Currency in Circulation. The forecasting performance of these models is compared. The results indicate that the performance of SARIMA(2,1)(5,0) is better and that both models might be applied for monetary policy purposes as supportive tools for banking sector liquidity forecasting.

Opis:
In this paper we investigate sources and characteristics of value, size and momentum profits on the Polish stock market. The research aims to broaden the academic knowledge in a few ways. First, we deliver fresh out-of-sample evidence on value, momentum, and size premiums. Second, we analyzemthe interdependences among the factors. Third, we investigate whether the factor premiums are present after accounting for liquidity constraints. Fourth, we check whether the factor premiums are robust to transaction costs. Our research is based on all the stocks listed on the WSE in years 2001-2013. We find, that the value, momentum, and size premiums are to some extent present on the Polish market. Furthermore, they strengthen each other, but they disappear after accounting for transaction costs and liquidity.
