Opis:
The result of the study have been presented on life cycle assessment used to assess new manufacturing methods for sustainability and design from environmental perspective. The sustainable product development integrated with life cycle assessment has been used for design of ensuring sustainable product. The objective of the present investigation was to develop a systematic method with environmental consciousness in the selection of alternative materials used in the components, meeting the performance and functional requirements and reducing the environmental impact associated with the product life cycle. The experiments were carried out using a monoblock pump stator and rotor subassembly components. The environmental impact of CO2, SO2, dichlorobenzene, ethene, and chloro-fluorocarbon (CFC-11) has been evaluated by the Centrum Voor Milieukunde Leiden (CML) methods during the process of metallurgy and refining, manufacturing, life cycle assessment (operation) and disposal and recycle. It was observed that there will be considerable reduction in pollutant emission and environmental impact.

Opis:
Integrated procedures of analysis have been presented combining both reliability and economical aspects of operation of a water supply system (WSS). The method presented is a practical application of the reliability analysis and life-cycle costing which is a part of a decision support system (DSS) for WSS. It focuses on undisturbed operation of systems with exceeded redundant capacity minding system's reliable and lower possible operational costs. The proposed analytical approach is shown on the example of the surface water intake which is the first subsystem of WSS influencing operation of a whole system. As a part of the study, reliability and economic assessments of various variants of future operation of water intake have been carried out as a basis for choosing most advantageous solution. The authors indicate how exceeded redundant capacity affects applied maintenance method of the system. All calculations of the reliability indicators are based on operating data contained in exploitation logs (2001-2012). The costs have been estimated based on the obtained financial documentation.

Opis:
Traditional markets in Malang Regency are divided into four classes with particular classifications. The traditional market solid waste research aims to show the environmental impact of solid waste management efforts using life cycle assessment (LCA) and selected scenarios to reduce solid waste sustainably. The planned management follows four scenarios: Scenario 0 represents the baseline scenario. Scenario 1 assumes that non-composted solid waste recycling is carried out. Scenario 2 assumes that composting takes place. Finally, Scenario 3 assumes that non-composted solid waste recycling and composting are integrative ely carried out by building a reduced reuse recycle solid waste treatment facility (TPS 3R) near the market. The environmental impact analysis was carried out with various impact categories (carcinogens, respiratory organics, respiratory inorganics, climate change, radiation, ozone layer, ecotoxicity, acidification/eutrophication, land use, minerals, and fossil fuels). The results show that the smallest environmental impact is in Scenario 3 in most classes, namely the scenario where non-composted solid waste was integrative ely recycled and composted.

Opis:
The methodology of life cycle assessment (LCA) is a valuable tool for identifying and assessing the environmental impacts caused by waste management scenarios. The aim of this study was to perform a comparative LCA of two scenarios of municipal waste management system in Krakow, Poland. The assessment is limited to residual (mixed) waste. Under the former scenario, residual waste is landfilled at a well-equipped facility, while under the latter scenario, residual waste is incinerated in a thermal treatment plant with energy recovery. Landfilling represents a real situation for 2010, when all residual waste was landfilled, incinerating expresses the plan for 2016. The elements of the scenarios such as collection and treatments of separately collected waste are excluded from the system boundaries. The modeling of the environmental impact is done by the EASETECH model, employing EDIP 2003 methodology. The final results are expressed in person equivalent (PE) units. Both scenarios have negative impacts on the environment, however the impact for incineration is much lower than for landfilling. In respect of landfilling, the significant impact categories are photochemical ozone formation, global warming, eutrophication and human toxicity. Regarding incineration, significant impact categories include eutrophication, photochemical zone formation, acidification and human toxicity.

Opis:
In recent years, laptops have become very commonly used, causing a significant environmental impact. In Poland about 2 million portable computers are sold every year. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a tool which evaluates environmental impacts associated with a product throughout its life. In this paper, a screening life cycle assessment for a personal computer - Actina laptop, assembled, used and disposed in Poland was performed. Values for eleven impact categories were provided with the application of the Eco-indicator 99 method, expressing the significance of the burden on the environment. For the whole life cycle, the most significant stage is the use phase, due to electricity consumption (over 60% of all environmental impacts) followed by the manufacturing of the product with over 37% of the share.
