Opis:
Gaseous emissions during thermal animal waste treatment in a meat production plant have been determined. A dry flue gas system with a multisectional bag filter was installed at a meat production plant. Animal waste was incinerated in a rotary kiln, the capacity of the plant was 700 kg/h. The average thirty-minute (1352 samples) emission values of volatile dust, total organic carbon (TOC), hydrogen chloride (HCl), hydrogen fluoride (HF), sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxide (NO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and carbon oxide (CO) were obtained during a study period of 1 month. Specific samples were collected to determine dioxin, furane, heavy metal, mercury, cadmium and thallium concentrations. Histograms of the obtained results were prepared, and the results were compared with the permissible emission levels defined by the European Union. Additionally, justification was provided when the observed values exceeded the levels defined by the European Union.

Opis:
The analysis of heat losses and thermal efficiency of the steam system used for plywood dryers before and after its modernization has been presented. In the wood industry, mainly pressure-free condensate return systems are used. An existing open condensate return system has been improved by the application of a closed condensate tank in order to eliminate secondary steaming. The tested system consisted of three basic parts. One of them was a boiler plant producing superheated steam. Steam and condensate transfer grids connecting the boiler plant with the dryer constituted the next part of the tested steam system. The latter element was a processing device for plywood drying. The application of the closed condensate return system has increased the efficiency of the tested steam system by 15.5%. This resulted in lower emissions of contaminations to the atmosphere. The results of the test were also used to define basic economic indicators of the system in order to determine profitability of its installation.

Opis:
Theoretical and experimental results of the investigation illustrate how the rotary kiln operation affects the oxygen demand in the combustion of meat and bone wastes. The main objective of this study was to achieve optimal CO and NOx emissions for the cyclic operation of a rotary kiln, including in stoppage/operation mode. The tests were carried out in a plant in Poland for thermal animal waste management. A rotary kiln with a maximum capacity of 1000 kg/h was used to incinerate bones, carcasses, processed meat and by-products. The results showed that excessive short-term (1 min) CO and NOx emissions could be prevented by using appropriate time settings for the kiln rotation and adjusting the air flow to the afterburner chamber. Despite the strong negative correlation between CO and NOx emissions, we found an operation level that met the strict requirements of the new EU Directive 2010/75/EU of the European Parliament and the November 24, 2010 Council on industrial emissions.
