Cox’s proportional hazard model
Opis:: The paper presents results of survey concerning the influence of gender, age and education of the unemployed on job searching time. For the sake of specificity of survey, especially in case of censored data, the Cox’s proportional hazard model has been used for the identification of determinants and research their influence for time needed to take up a job. To the model, except independent variables, their interactions that enable the calculation of interplay of researched variables have been included. 20846 persons registered as unemployed in the Local Labour Office in Szczecin and due to various reasons unregistered in 2010 have been included in the research. If unregistering occurred due to different reasons than finding a job, such an observation has been considered as censored.

Opis:: The article shows in a synthetic way the problems of unemployment in the ten states that newly accessed the EU in 2004. Special attention was paid to long-term unemployment. The period of time from 2000 to 2011, that was selected for the purpose of the analysis, includes the years that directly preceded and directly followed accession to the EU. This was to show the possible changes in intensity of this phenomenon in the selected countries.

Opis:: In the Labour Force Survey (LFS) the interviewees are considered as employed, unemployed or professionally inactive based on “objective” criteria defined in the survey’s methodological assumptions (e.g. the fact that a person is seeking employment, waiting to start work or worked at least one hour in the reference week). In use since 1992, the above approach allows the classification to be unaffected by the respondents’ subjective feelings. Since 2006, LFS respondents have been also allowed to identify their economic activity status by themselves. The objective of this paper is to indicate and attempt to explain the differences between the results based on the identification of economic activity statuses as per the criteria adopted by the Central Statistical Office and the LFS respondents’ own assessment of their economic activity status. This paper assessed the rationale behind each approach and the implications thereof for the procedure and results of unemployment surveys from a static and dynamic perspective.

Opis:: Multi-Group Confirmatory Factor Analysis (MGCFA) demonstrated the deficiency of the four original European Commission (EC) items for consumer confidence. Fit of the MGCFA model was unacceptable and without scalar invariance, index comparison between study periods was not permissible. This provided clear motivation for a plausible alternative index specification to comply with requirements for single-dimensionality and meaning invariance throughout the study period. The MGCFA model using a new set of items demonstrated partial metric and partial scalar invariance. Using the structural equation framework, consumer confidence was revealed as strongly interrelated with unemployment forecast and durable goods purchase.
