Opis:
The article deals with two fairy-tale motives – “youth” and “old age” in Mikhail Osor-gin’s novel A Quiet Street (Sivtzev Vrazhek, 1928). Owing to the author’s outlook and artistic strategy they do not stand in the opposition to one another, but rather depict parallel vectors of human life, its presentation the context of space (micro and macro space) as well as in the context of a philosophically meaningful historical time correlated with eternity. The author’s aim is supported by the novel’s structure – a freely arranged series of short stories. The article exposes the problem of the writer’s comprehension of human life within different time and spatial plans. The time layer covers daily, annual and eternal / universal time. The spatial dimension of the artistic world takes into account the Infinite Universe, the solar system, the Earth, Russia, Moscow and the corner house in Sivtzev Vrazhek, which is the main center of the novel structure.

The textual analysis shows the key areas of learning young people by older soldiers recommended by Homer through the image of the teacher of Achilles. The question of the role of the Phoenix in shaping the paradigm of a wise old teacher in the subsequent history of education and culture is discussed.

Opis:
The article focuses on how the category of age is interpreted in George Sand’s The History of my Life, how general and gender aspects are related in every phase of age triad “childhood – youth – old age” and author’s personal experience of maturation coincides with diachronic paradigm “daughter – mother – grandmother”. This corre-spondence helps the writer to investigate her own personal evolution ad absurdum. Synchronic and diachronic narrative levels stipulate George Sand’s interpretation of the conventional opposition “youth – old age” through two pairs of concepts: “youth – maturation” and “childhood – old age”.

Opis:
The study focuses on forms of appearance of childhood and old age in selected prose works of Slovak literary realism. The focus of the analysis are Kukučín's prose works from the school setting and Tajovský's short stories with a dominant character of a grandfather. In works of both authors the memoir type of prose can be found, which was inspired by memories of their childhood and strong autobiographical elements of children characters. For Tajovský, there is a tendency to harmonic imaging childhood and old age as a symbiosis of the two period of human being.

Opis:
The Dictionnaire comique, satyrique, critique, burlesque, libre et proverbial by Philibert-Joseph Le Roux, published in 1786, is a dictionary containing fairly extensive lexical material, depicting elderliness in both men and women. This article aims to demonstrate the differences in perception of old age depending on whether it concerns women or men. A visible dichotomy in the manner of speaking about the old age of both genders, as well as their physiology, physical aspects and social role show that old men were treated with a greater tolerance, whereas the female aging process was scorned and ridiculed. An analysis of expressions used to describe old age in both women and men in Le Roux’s dictionary shows that it never constitutes a neutral subject matter, and it is characterised by strong emotional charge, as reflected in expressions referring to this stage of life. On the one hand, its descriptions are vulgar, scornful, and situate old age in contexts where it is ridiculed. On the other hand, however, old age does not condemn people to infirmity: it becomes a time of wisdom and experience. In the linguistic view of the world at the end of the 18th-century in France, the latter, more positive aspect of aging, referred primarily to men.

The second part pays attention to four variants of Pushkin´s poetic depiction of the old age. In the last part the author of the article summarizes the facts obtained by the analysis of both themes (motifs) and in a brief survey presents the most important conclusions characterizing specific features of Pushkin´s artistic concept of time.
