Opis:
To program an autonomous robot so that it acts reliably in a dynamic environment is a very hard task. Towards a promising approach to this problem, we have developed a genetic fuzzy controller for a mobile robot, and showed the possibility by applying it to a simulated robot called Khepera. The robot gets input from eight infrared sensors and operates two motors according to the fuzzy inference based on the sensory input. This paper attempts to analyze the adaptive behaviors of the controller by using automata, which indicates the emergence of several strategies to make the robot to navigate the complex space without bumping agains the walls and obstacles.

Opis:
This paper concerns an energy efficient global path planning algorithm for a four-wheeled mobile robot (4WMR). First, the appropriate graph search methods for robot path planning are described. The A* heuristic algorithm is chosen to find an optimal path on a 2D tile-decomposed map. Various criteria of optimization in path planning, like mobility, distance, or energy are reviewed. The adequate terrain representation is introduced. Each cell in the map includes information about ground height and type. Tire-ground interface for every terrain type is characterized by coefficients of friction and rolling resistance. The goal of the elaborated algorithm is to find an energy minimizing route for the given environment, based on the robot dynamics, its motor characteristics, and power supply constraints. The cost is introduced as a function of electrical energy consumption of each motor and other robot devices. A simulation study was performed in order to investigate the power consumption level for diverse terrain. Two 1600 m2 test maps, representing field and urban environments, were decomposed into 20x20 equal-sized square-shaped elements. Several simulation experiments have been carried out to highlight the differences between energy consumption of the classic shortest path approach, where cost function is represented as the path length, and the energy efficient planning method, where cost is related to electrical energy consumed during robot motion.

Opis:
In the paper, the architecture of a mobile robot cooperating with other robots and some stationary devices in a task of collective perception and world modeling is considered. We present data-driven processing of information performed by an individual robot treated as an agent and we propose to organize it as a set of experts (also treated as agents) exchanging data by means of a blackboard. The roles of particular agents and the structure of the blackboard are described. We analyze the control aspects of the system and the form of control knowledge.

Opis:
A robust adaptive kinematic control strategy, based on the methodology of variable structure control is considered in this paper. Because the dynamics of mobile robots is subject to uncertainties and disturbances, a fuzzy compensator is adopted to estimate them. In order to minimize the tracking errors and to attenuate the chattering phenomenon, an adaptation law for the fuzzy compensator is obtained by Lyapunov stability theory so as to asymptotically stabilize the control system as well as guarantee the convergence of the tracking errors. In terms of comparison with the boundary layer variable structure controller, simulations and experiments verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed kinematic control strategy for the nonholonomic mobile robots under the incidence of uncertainties and disturbances.

Opis:
This paper analyses a trajectory tracking control problem for a wheeled mobile robot, Rusing integration of a kinematic neural controller (KNC) and a torque neural controller (TNC), in which both the kinematic and dynamic models contain uncertainties and disturbances. The proposed adaptive neural controller (PANC) is composed of the KNC and the TNC and is designed with use of a modeling technique of Gaussian radial basis function neural networks (RBFNNs). The KNC is a variable structure controller, based on the sliding mode theory and is applied to compensate for the disturbances of the wheeled mobile robot kinematics. The TNC is an inertia-based controller composed of a dynamic neural controller (DNC) and a robust neural compensator (RNC) applied to compensate for the wheeled mobile robot dynamics, bounded unknown disturbances, and neural network modeling errors. To minimize the problems found in practical implementations of the classical variable structure controllers (VSC) and sliding mode controllers (SMC), and to eliminate the chattering phenomenon, the nonlinear and continuous KNC and RNC of the TNC are applied in lieu of the discontinuous components of the control signals that are present in classical forms. Additionally, the PANC neither requires the knowledge of the wheeled mobile robot kinematics and dynamics nor the timeconsuming training process. Stability analysis, convergence of the tracking errors to zero, and the learning algorithms for the weights are guaranteed based on the Lyapunov method. Simulation results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Opis:
The article deals with the issue of controlling the autonomous mobile systems. Considered are the problems focusing around the use of controllers with distributed architecture. Contrary to hierarchical architecture, all layers of distributed controller are operating simultaneously, and have an access to both the receptors and to the effectors of the controlled autonomous mobile system. Simultaneous operation of all layers of the distributed architecture controller entails the emergence of the action selection problem. This problem consists in continuous taking decisions: which one of the layers, or which layers of the controller, should have an influence at given moment on the movement of the controlled mobile system. A proposal for a new solution of this problem is discussed. The results of experiments with the use of real mobile robot are presented.
