Opis:
This paper concerns building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), and in particular, potential advantages resulting from the use of this technology. The possibilities of integration of the BIPV elements in the building structure were presented, with particular consideration of photovoltaic roof covering. In order to demonstrate the legitimacy of using solutions of this type in real conditions, the subject of the analysis was the thin–film photovoltaic module, which constitutes an integral part of the photovoltaic roof tile. During the tests, particular attention was paid to changes in parameters of the tested object, depending on the way it is shaped in relation to the solar radiation, demonstrating in this way, the necessity to strive for the optimal exposure of the BIPV elements in relation to the sun.

Opis:
In the study the authors introduced the idea of the operation of the photovoltaic system with possibly low temperature of photovoltaic cell surfaces. The attention was paid both to PV panels which are very popular in Poland and to currently less popular PV roofing tiles. The selected solutions were characterized, which - in the authors’ opinion - have a practical impact on lowering of the temperature of operation of photovoltaic cells, and thus increase the system’s energy yield. Special attention was paid to the concept of operation of the hybrid PVT collector as well as the selection of roof substrate for PV roofing tiles. Potential benefits resulting from conducted works were indicated for various groups of recipients. The results of first tests and calculations were also presented, which confirm the need of further research works on this issue.

Opis:
The paper presents a method of modelling photovoltaic (PV) cells in the MATLAB & SIMULINK environment. A two-diode photovoltaic cell structure was developed, featuring series resistance. Measurements of a PV panel were carried out to determine the value of series resistance, open circuit voltage, and short-circuit current. The model suggested was used to operate the ST-STP020S-12/Cb panel with an actual input function (measurements of solar radiation power density of the south-east area of Poland in 2011). Simulation experiments were conducted of the system modelled to determine current changes, power changes, electric energy production, voltage-current characteristics, and to come up with results and draw final conclusions.

Paper presents the influence of external conditions such as: the latitude φ, the solar declination δ, the hour angle ω, number of sunny hours, cloud cover and orientation of photovoltaic module on the energetic gain. The results of the measurements of radiation power density that reaches the surface of the PV receiver for its different positions, for the geographic location of the cities of Poznań and Playa del Ingles and for different time periods (yearly and daily) are presented in a graphical form. The study compares also production of electric power and energy in different weather conditions: cloudy, partly cloudy and cloudless sky using two- axis tracking system and fixed with one optimal angle setting during the year. Analyzed systems are located in Poznan on the roof of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering building. Distribution of power density of solar radiation in different days of the year was also compared.

Opis:
In the work, the authors explain the concept of operation of an autonomous photovoltaic system with particular focus on the role of battery charging controllers. Didactic experiments that complement the theoretical knowledge on the construction and the principles of operation of photovoltaic systems of the “off-grid” type were conducted. The laboratory set described provides the capabilities to analyze the operation of small autonomous photovoltaic systems which are analogous to complex systems that are used in real settings. The systems are especially popular in Poland and that is why it is important to deepen the knowledge on them. Particular attention is put in the article on the cooperation of photovoltaic elements with energy storage devices (condensers and batteries) and with the load points with the use of battery charging controllers (serial and shunt) and of a module protecting the energy storage devices against discharging. The review of different solutions is complemented with sample measurement tests and with the test results for the tested system of the “off-grid” type.

Energy policy of Poland in a balanced way has to provide security of energy supply, increase the use of its own resources and promote the sustainable development of different electricity generation technologies. The established aims of climate and energy policy will be difficult to achieve without efficient technologies based on distributed generation. In this context, the importance of the development and use of photovoltaic systems is growing. Photovoltaics is one of the most promising technologies and the possibilities of its use in various scale energy systems make it an effective and safe source of energy and an important part of a stable and independent energy mix in the future.
