Opis:
The diagnostic testing of internal combustion engine can be made by using working processes and methods which take advantage of leftover processes. Working processes give information about general condition of internal combustion engine. Leftover processes give information about condition of particular subassemblies and kinematic couples; hence they are used as autonomous processes or as processes supporting other diagnostic methods. Methods based on analysis of vibrations and noise changes to determine technical condition of object are named as vibroacoustic diagnostics. In papers about vibroacoustic diagnostics of engine, problems connected with difficulty to select test point and to define diagnostic parameters containing essential information about engine’s condition, are most often omitted. Selection of engine’s working parameters and conditions of taking measurements or recording vibration signal are usually based on references, researcher’s experience or intuition. General assumptions about taking measurements of signal closest to its source are most often used. This paper presents a new approach to vibroacoustic diagnostics of jet engine. Selection of measurement points of vibration signals on the basis of tests stand results was suggested and perform a sensitivity analysis of measurement points on the engine support.

Opis:
This paper presents a study of vibrations appearing in a vehicle in the process of its operation. The authors describe the primary source of the vibrations and their propagation in the entire structure. The observations were performed on the passenger cars with various gasoline and diesel engines. The aim was to examine the level of damping factor in the different locations in the car, precisely specified for the purpose of this studies. The secondary goal was to develop an effective method of obtaining and analyzing signals generated during the engine operation. The chosen instrument was Laser Doppler Vibrometer (LDV), which is used as the non-intrusive measurement utensil to detect velocity variations in designated places. The signals are gathered and collected as group of sinusoidal characteristics in the time domain. In order to achieve specific information about every component of the original signal, the authors apply Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) as the analyzing method. It allows to distinct the basic sinusoidal characteristics in the frequency domain through the spectral analysis. Based on the results, the authors are able to distinguish the dominant modes from the complex signal and indicate their impact on the car.

Opis:
The continuously increasing mechanical and thermal loads of modern engines require optimization of the designs with incorporation of a wide range of different aspects. Application of advanced computer simulations in the development process for most engine components is well established, leading to the creation of well optimized products. However, the optimization of such design variables ike the firing order, which influences engine operation in several disciplines, is still challenging. Considering the ever increasing peak firing pressure requirements, the layout of the firing order in multi-cylinder commercial engines is an efficient way to reduce crank train / overall engine vibration and main bearing loads, whilst controlling engine balancing and preserving adequate gas exchange dynamics. The proposed general firing order selection process for four-stroke engines and, in particular, its first part being the optimization of the firing order based on crank train torsional vibration, is the main topic of this paper. The exemplary study for a V20 high speed commercial Diesel engine regarding the influence of the firing sequence on crank train torsional vibration has been conducted with the multibody dynamics simulation software “FEV Virtual Engine”. It addresses various engine crankshaft layouts and engine applications.

Opis:
In this paper, the author presents a study of vibrations in a passenger vehicle and the possible influence on driver’s body in the process of natural operation. The author describes the dependence of engine size and additional equipment as the possible primary source of the vibration variations and their further propagation in the entire vehicle structure. The analysis was performed on the passenger cars with naturally aspirated and turbocharged gasoline engines. The aim of this study was to verify the level of vibrations in the vehicle structure with these particular engines, especially influence of downsized power unit, during various state of engine operation. The second goal was to examine the vibrations in the specified location related to driver’s body. The measuring method used piezoelectric accelerometers, which were attached to the designated locations in the vehicle and were able to detect variations of the acceleration. The signals were collected as characteristics in the time domain. In order to achieve frequency domain for spectral analyses, the author applied the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT).

Opis:
The paper presents a method of classification of locomotive Diesel engine states basing on vibration signals taken from an engine body and using chosen statistical parameters calculated for the original signal and it wavelet multiresolution components. The researches presented in the paper concern estimation of an engine states before and after a general repair. The target application of the presented researches is an on-line diagnostic system which can complement standard OBD systems. To this purpose the applied methods should not base on complex analysis of some spectral, time-frequency or scalogram plots but rather on choosing single diagnostic parameters which are suitable for the fast on-line diagnostic. The results have showed the significant difference in distinguishing of engine work before and after a general repair using some chosen statistical parameters applied to vibration signals.

Opis:
The paper presents a short-time analysis of the vibration signals for the diagnosis of Diesel engine of combustion locomotive by recognition of different engine states using the clustering technique. The main aim of the researches was to distinguish between different engine states represent different wear extends. The proposed method of vibration signal analysis consists on sliding a time window along signal in time and observing the changes of some given statistical parameters. The set of this parameter values creates a multidimensional parameter space where the time evolution can be observed. For recognition and detection of different engine system states some clustering techniques in the parameter space were performed. The results show the possibility of distinguishing different cluster centers within the parameter space which can be assigning to different engine states represented the states before and after a general repair.

Opis:
The article reviews the available solutions of range-extenders with internal combustion engines designed for use in electric vehicles. The using of the on-board range-extender aims to increase the range of an electric vehicle, which is still significantly limited. This fact is connected with relatively small capacity of currently used electric energy storage systems. The development of secondary cells with performances allowing the driving range of electric car to be comparable to average car with combustion engine still faces considerable difficulties. For this reason, the use of the internal combustion engine for propulsion of range-extenders for electric vehicles becomes nowadays more and more popular. In this paper range-extenders from the following companies are described: FEV Aachen, Kolbenschmidt Pierburg together with FEV, AVL list GmbH, Lotus Engineering with Fagor Ederlan, Mahle Powertrain Ltd. and General Motors for Chevrolet Volt / Opel Ampera. High efficiency, low exhaust emission and low noise & vibration obtained with a compact dimensions are priority in the development of these devices.
