Opis:: The article depicts a profile of the last pre-war german Consul General in Katowice Wilhelm Nöldeke (1889–1971). It presents not only his term of offices in Katowice, but also his previous years as well as post-war career in foreign service of the Federal Republic of Germany. Description of this german diplomats lot is to help in understanding the fates of many similar persons serving in german foreign service, who were shaped in the era of the Kaisers’ Germany, gained professional experiences in the Weimar Republic, experienced the reality of the nazi Germany and finally, ended their personal career in realities of democratic german state, ingrained in politically-military structures of the West.

Opis:: Simon Askenazy (1865-1935) was one of the most prominent Polish historians of the beginning of the 20th Century. Poland was then divided between Russia, Germany (Prussia) and Austria-Hungary. Askenazy strongly contributed to the popularity of Polish irredenta movement at the outbreak of WW I. His approach toward the Germans should be perceived as an outcome of several factors, namely the changing international situation, the German/Prussian policy towards Polish subjects and the national interest of Poland. Thus the outbreak of the Great War as well as the restoration of Poland as its aftermath proved to have a great impact on Askenazy and his historical writing.

"A vivid sign against escapes and expulsions" in Berlin
Opis:: This article is an attempt of conducting analysis of main aspects of memory of World War II both in Poland and in Germany between the year 1989/90 and 2014. It also includes an analysis of the process of its development and changes which have taken place in the above mentioned period of time. The article discusses crucial historical debates, muse-ums and exhibitions which deal with World War II. Particular attention was paid to two emerg-ing museums dealing with this subject: the Museum of World War II in Gdansk as well as "A vivid sign against escapes and expulsions" in Berlin.
