Opis:
Vector II slab was tested on a natural scale (a slab with a dimension of 6.30 × 6.30 m) and a strip 6.30 m long and 1.20 m wide. The Vector II slab is built by precast panel 60 cm wide, 4 cm thick and 14-20 cm thick concrete overtopping on the construction site. The main purpose of the slab tests on a natural scale was to observe the "faulting" effect and temporary deflections. During the tests, the displacements in the area of the panel joints in the middle of the slab span were recorded. The maximum difference in displacement between adjacent panels of the slab model was 0.16 mm, and the vertical displacement was 1.9 mm. The strip model had no cracks that could indicate a interface cracks between the precast element and the concrete overlay. After completion of the field tests, the load was left on the slab model to verify long-term effects.

Opis:
To solve the problem of predicting the service life of superstructures, this work proposes the basis and methodological developments of creep theory with increasing loads as well as regression analysis of the results of laboratory experiments. The main limitation in terms of reinforcement is corrosion in the concrete cracks, which was determined during laboratory experiments. Based on the results, the approximate analytical dependences concerning reinforcement corrosion depth change over time at a constant value of crack width were selected. The paper substantiates the validity of the analytical dependences as a result of regression analysis; it proposes formulae for determining the corrosion rate of rebars in reinforced concrete superstructures. The obtained analytical dependences allowed for the developing of a process for predicting changes to the state of the superstructure in light of operational changes.

Opis:
Volume change in expansive soils due to the intervention of water causes swell. A laboratory investigation using two different geosynthetic materials was designed to minimise the swell characteristics. The influence of three parameters, being geosynthetic material [Secutex (ST) and Combigrid (CG)], orientation (horizontal and vertical), and number of layers (1, 2, and 3) on the swell of an expansive soil was studied to better understand the potential for geosynthetics in swell control. The study on the immediate swell characteristics (limited to 24 hours) helps in gaining confidence in the use of geosynthetics in the swell control of expansive soils. From the investigation results, it was found that all three parameters, being type of material, orientation, and number of layers influenced the swell control of the soil. When two layers of ST and CG were placed both vertically and crossed, they reduced the swell of the virgin soil by almost 60% and 44%, respectively. It can, therefore, be concluded that geosynthetics can play an effective role in the swell control of expansive soils.
