Opis:
The infuence of water and WD-40 oil content on the sensitivity to friction of three primary explosives, triacetone triperoxide (TATP), diacetone diperoxide (DADP) and hexamethylene triperoxide diamine (HMTD), has been investigated. All of these explosives belong to a group of improvised explosives. The possibility of desensitization of these explosives by the addition of other substances was studied. Sensitivity curves were obtained for the solid organic peroxides with various liquid contents. The sensitivity decreases signifcantly with only a small quantity of liquid − up to about 20% of the liquid. Further increase in the liquid content has a negligible further impact on the sensitivity to friction. Water and WD-40 oil were compared as desensitizating agents.

Opis:
Most primary explosives are non-conductors, easily accumulate charge when contacting with and separating from other materials, and are sensitive to electrostatic discharge (ESD). In order to reduce the number of accidents caused by ESD initiation of primary explosives, studies on their electrostatic hazards are necessary. This work presents comprehensive experimental results of electrostatic discharge sensitivity and chargeability of tris(carbohydrazide)zinc perchlorate (ZnCP) under different conditions. The influences of the testing conditions, of devices, particle size, ambient temperature and relative humidity on the electrostatic discharge sensitivity and chargeability have been investigated in detail, and the quantitative regression equations obtained.

Opis:
Generally, 2,4,6-triazido-1,3,5-triazine or cyanuric triazide (CTA) is obtained from the synthetic process as long, sharp edged crystals or fine/ agglomerated particles. These are very sensitive and not suitable for detonator filling, leading to poor performance. We report herein a method for the preparation of uniformly shaped and sized particles of CTA with a free-flowing crystalline nature suitable for detonator applications. The uniformly shaped free-flowing CTA crystals are obtained by emulsion crystallization using a non-solvent at elevated temperature. The free-flowing CTA particles prepared were characterized using spectroscopy, SEM, and particle size analysis techniques. The results show that the CTA crystals obtained by emulsion crystallization are smooth surfaced, nearly spherical grains with a free-flowing nature. Furthermore, the results show that CTA crystals have a higher bulk density (BD) compared with normal CTA crystals prepared by crash precipitation. The thermal behaviour of the CTA crystals obtained by emulsification crystallization was investigated by conducting experiments such as DSC and using an explosion temperature tester.

Opis:
Dichlorate(VII) μ-tris(4-amino-1,2,4-triazole)copper(II) is an explosive with a performance close to that of lead azide. However, it is quite stable and has moderate sensitivity to thermal and mechanical stimuli. In order to fully characterize it as a primary explosive, its thermal decomposition kinetics were studied and some important detonation and explosion parameters (detonation heat and velocity, acceleration ability, water shock wave overpressure, and energy) were measured and/or calculated.
