Opis:
The structure and operating principles of a system for monitoring and controlling the operation of a thermal energy store have been presented in this study. As a novel feature of the presented solution, the device can be operated as a thermal energy store that relies on specific heat of fluids or phase transition heat when packages of phase change materials (PCM) are placed inside the device. Grates were used to arrange PCM packages in a manner that guarantees the flow of the heat transfer medium. The grates were equipped with temperature sensors to control thermal decomposition throughout the entire tank. The use of aerogel for thermal insulation was also a novel solution. Only a thin layer of aerogel was required to reduce heat loss across the tank wall. The structure and functionality of the modelled thermal energy store correspond to real-life conditions. The model can be used to test monitoring and control systems and to analyse the phenomena observed during the operation of similar devices. The operation of the thermal energy store can be regularly monitored and controlled on-line from any location in the world. The developed model supports the automatic import of operating parameters into a database for further analysis.

Opis:
This paper presents briefly the state of the art literature review with respect to research in the field of latent heat storage systems as elements of heat only, power only or combined heat and power (CHP) plants utilizing renewable energy sources (RES) for residential applications. Next, a paper introduces initial research carried out in IMP PAN in Gdańsk, Poland, aimed at development of a prototype latent heat storage unit. Identification of the suggested application for the storage unit in a given system is presented. The first stage of development of a prototype heat storage unit, namely a process of PCM pre-selection is discussed.

Opis:
This paper presents an experimental study performed with the general aim of defining procedures for calculation and optimization of shell-and-tube latent thermal energy storage unit with metals or metal alloys as PCMs. The experimental study is focused on receiving the exact information about heat transfer between heat transfer fluid (HTF) and phase change material (PCM) during energy accumulation process. Therefore, simple geometry of heat transfer area was selected. Two configurations of shell-and-tube thermal energy storage (TES) units were investigated. The paper also highlights the emerging trend (reflected in the literature) with respect to the investigation of metal PCM-based heat storage units in recent years and shortly presents unique properties and application features of this relatively new class of PCMs.

Opis:
Endurance capability is a key indicator to evaluate the performance of electric vehicles. Improving the energy density of battery packs in a limited space while ensuring the safety of the vehicle is one of the currently used technological solutions. Accordingly, a small space and high energy density battery arrangement scheme is proposed in this paper. The comprehensive performance of two battery packs based on the same volume and different space arrangements is compared. Further, based on the same thermal management system (PCM-fin system), the thermal performance of staggered battery packs with high energy density is numerically simulated with different fin structures, and the optimal fin structure parameters for staggered battery packs at a 3C discharge rate are determined using the entropy weight-TOPSIS method. The result reveals that increasing the contact thickness between the fin and the battery (X) can reduce the maximum temperature, but weaken temperature homogeneity. Moreover, the change of fin width (A) has no significant effect on the heat dissipation performance of the battery pack. Entropy weight-TOPSIS method objectively assigns weights to both maximum temperature (Tmax) and temperature difference (DT) and determines the optimal solution for the cooling system fin parameters. It is found that when X = 0:67 mm, A = 0:6 mm, the staggered battery pack holds the best comprehensive performance.
