Annealed iron-platinum (FePt) is ferromagnetic in a nanoscale regime which is necessary for energy and data storage, whereas the as-synthesized form of FePt-based nanoparticles exhibits superparamagnetism useful for biomedical applications. In this study, as-synthesized nanosuspensions from the reaction of Pt(acac)2 with Fe(acac)3 and Fe(hfac)3 are compared. X-ray diffraction (XRD) peaks for both samples are assigned to the FePt3 phase. As shown by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), nanoparticles synthesized by using Fe(acac)3 have a smaller average diameter, but larger polydispersity index and particle agglomerations. On the other hand, the nanoparticles synthesized by using Fe(hfac)3 can self-assemble into a longer range of patterned monolayer. Dynamic light scattering (DLS), measuring the size of cluster of nanoparticles as well as oleic acid and oleylamine at their surface, confirms that larger agglomerations in the sample were synthesized by using Fe(acac)3. In addition to the size distribution, magnetic properties were influenced by the composition of these nanoparticles.

The paper presents numerical analyses aimed at preliminary assessment of the protective panel effectiveness, which task is to protect the elements of building structures against explosion. For the criterion of assessing the effectiveness of the panel the load capacity of the column made of steel I-beam was chosen. Ultimate force was determined by using advanced computational procedure, which consisted of four stages: preload, blast simulation, dynamic response and static analysis of deformed structure. Blast load was simulated using Lagrangian- Eulerian domain coupling. Results indicated that the application of the protective panel significantly reduces the plastic deformation of the structure.

Opis:
Scissor bridges are characterized by high mobility and modular structure. A single module-span consists of two spanning parts of the bridge; two main trucks and the support structure. Pin joints are used between modules of the single bridge span. Some aspects of the experimental test and numerical analysis of the scissor-AVLB type bridge operation are presented in this paper. Numerical analyses, presented here, were carried out for the scissors-type BLG bridge with treadways extended as compared to the classical bridge operated up to the present in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland. A structural modification of this kind considerably affects any changes in the effort of the force transmitting structure of the bridge. These changes may prove to be disadvantageous to the whole structure because of torsional moments that additionally load the treadways. Giving careful consideration to such operational instances has been highly appreciated because of the possibility of using this kind of bridges while organizing the crossing for vehicles featured with various wheel/track spaces (different from those used previously). The BLG bridge was numerically analysed to assess displacements and distributions of stresses throughout the bridge structure in different loading modes. Because of the complexity of the structure in question and simplifications assumed at the stage of constructing geometric and discrete models, the deformable 3D model of the scissors-type bridge needs verification. Verification of the reliability of models was performed by comparing deflections obtained in the different load modes that corresponded with tests performed on the test stand. It has been shown that the examined changes in conditions of loading the treadways of the bridge are of the greatest effect to the effort of the area of the joint which is attached to the girder bottom. Stress concentrations determined in the analysis are not hazardous to safe operation of the structure.

In the paper a chosen model of the light armoured vehicle was tested in terms of blast loading. More precisely, the blast propagation and interaction with the tire behaviour and suspension system elements of the light-armoured vehicle (LAV) was simulated. The chosen military vehicle meets the requirements of levels 2A and 2B of STANAG 4569 standard. Based on the obtained results, two modifications were proposed for the strength and resistance improvement of the wheel. The first consisted of inserting the rubber runflat ring inside the tire, whereas in the second the honeycomb-like composite wheel was implemented. Non-linear dynamic simulations were carried out using the explicit LS-Dyna code, with multi-material Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian formulation for simulation the blast process.

The rod specimens were produced from Pr9Fe50 + xCo13Zr1Nb4B23 – x (x = 0, 5, 8) alloys using the suction-casting technique. Subsequent devitrification annealing of those samples resulted in the change of their phase structure and magnetic properties. For annealed specimens of all investigated compositions, the Rietveld analyses of X-ray diffractions have shown the presence of three crystalline phases: the hard magnetic Pr2Fe11.2Co2.8B, soft magnetic α-Fe, and paramagnetic Pr1 + xFe4B4, which have precipitated within the amorphous matrix. This technique allowed us to determine the weight fractions of constituent phases. Furthermore, the microstructural changes with the alloy composition were observed. Magnetic measurements of annealed rods allowed us to calculate the switching field distributions (SFD) and δM plots in order to determine the strength and character of magnetic interactions between grains of constituent phases.

Al-Y-Fe amorphous and nanocrystalline alloys are characterized by a unique collection of diverse properties that are influenced by various factors, including heat treatment. In this paper, the effect of heat treatment on the structural changes and selected properties of Al-Y-Fe metallic glasses in the as-spun state is investigated. The structure of the Al88Y7Fe5 and Al88Y6Fe6 alloys was examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Mössbauer spectroscopy (MS). The corrosion resistance of the samples was characterized using polarization tests in a 3.5% NaCl solution at 25 °C. The effect of sodium chloride on the surface was studied with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The magnetic properties of Al-based alloys were explored using a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). It was revealed that the tested alloys show better properties after annealing than in the as-spun state. The annealing of the Al88Y7Fe5 and Al88Y6Fe6 alloys in the temperature range of 200 to 300 °C improved the magnetic properties and corrosion resistance of these materials. After 3,600 s, the better EOCP values were recorded for the Al88Y6Fe6 and Al88Y7Fe5 alloys after annealing at 300 °C and 200 °C, adequately. On the basis of the polarization tests, it was concluded that the electrochemical properties are better for Al88Y6Fe6 alloys after annealing at 300 °C.

In this scientific publication, research results of two newly developed hot-rolled Fe-Mn-Al-C (X105) and Fe-Mn-Al-Nb-Ti-C (X98) types of steel were compared. These types of steel are characterized by an average density of 6.68 g/cm³, a value 15% lower compared to conventional structural steel. Hot rolling was carried out on a semi-industrial line to evaluate the effect of hot plastic deformation conditions with different cooling variants on the structure. The detailed analysis of phase composition as well as microstructure allows us to state that the investigated steel is characterized by an austenitic-ferritic structure with carbides precipitates. The results of the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) tests of both types of steel after hot rolling showed the occurrence of various deformation effects such as shear bands, micro bands, and lens twins in the microstructure. Based on the research undertaken with the use of transmission electron microscopy, it was found that the hardening mechanism of the X98 and X105 steel is deformation-induced plasticity by the formation of shear bands (SIP) and micro shear bands (MBIP).

A theory of one-dimensional physical and mathematical modelling of the composite (steel-concrete) bridge/track structure/highspeed train system is developed including viscoelastic suspensions of rail-vehicles with two two-axle bogies each, non-linear Hertz contact stiffness and one-sided contact between wheel sets and rails, the viscoelastic and inertia features of the bridge, the viscoelastic track structure on and beyond the bridge, approach slabs, and random vertical track irregularities. Compared to the state-of-the-art, the physical model developed in the study accurately reproduces dynamic processes in the considered system. Division of the system into the natural subsystems, a method of formulation of the equations of motion partly in implicit form and the finite element method are applied. Vibrations in the vertical plane of symmetry are described by more than nine matrix equations of motion with constant coefficients. Couplings and non-linearity are hidden in the generalized load vectors. The equations of motion are integrated using the implicit Newmark average acceleration method with linear extrapolation of the interactions between the subsystems.

A new series-of-types of single-span simply-supported railway composite (steel-concrete) bridges, with a symmetric platform, has been designed according to the Polish bridge standards. The designed bridges/viaducts are located on the main railways of the classification coefficient k = +2. A ballasted track structure adapted to high operating speeds has also been designed. The ultimate limit states and the limit states corresponding to the bridges undertaken are collected and discussed. The bridges have been designed in accordance with contemporary art engineering, with geometric and material optimization, avoiding overdesign. A new methodology of numerical modelling and simulation of dynamic processes in composite bridge/ballasted track structure/high speed train systems, developed in Part 2 and Part 3, has been applied and implemented in a problem-oriented computer programme. A new approach to predicting forced resonances in those systems is formulated and tested numerically. It has been proved that in the case of typical structural solutions of bridges and ballasted track structures, it is necessary to introduce certain limitations for operating speeds of trains.

Opis:
A special wagon, presented in the paper, can be used for intermodal transport of various types of vehicles. It enables transport of vehicles of 36 tons mass and height of 4m on the GB1 clearance height. An innovative wagon is equipped with a frame-support with marginal parts mounted on standard biaxial bogies and the central part lowered with a rotatable loading platform. The rotating part of wagon acts as a kind of platform, allowing truck to move through it during load/unload. During railway operation, this rotating platform is to become an integrated part of the wagon; the tailboards of the rotating part will be connected to the over-bogie part with the special locks. A unique concept of the wagon structure forced a design approach which was rather unusual for the rail industry. Since the design team aimed at very challenging demands of GB1 envelope and usage of standard bogies, the layout of the wagon had to be thoroughly examined in terms of its overall stiffness. Every major design change had to be simulated in order to accurately predict its influence on the whole wagon structure. FE analysis was used for numerical tests of such a wagon structure in different configurations. The calculations were carried out on the basis of PN-EN standards. Selected results of numerical tests of the prototype version of a such wagon for intermodal transports were presented in the paper.

Dynamic analyses of a transport aircraft landing gear are conducted to determine the effort of such a complex system and provide capabilities to predict their behaviour under hazardous conditions. This kind of investigation with the use of numerical methods implementation is much easier and less expensive than stand tests. Various 3D models of the landing gear part are defined for the multistage static FE analysis. A complete system of the main landing gear was mapped as a deformable 3D numerical model for dynamic analysis with the use of LS-Dyna code. In this 3D deformable FE model, developed in a drop test simulation, the following matters were taken into consideration: contact problems between collaborating elements, the phenomena of energy absorption by a gas-liquid damper placed in the landing gear and the response of the landing gear during the touchdown of a flexible wheel with the ground. The results of numerical analyses for the selected drop tests and the results from the experiments carried out on a real landing gear were used for verification of FE models and a methodology of the landing gear dynamics analysis. The results obtained from the various simulations of the touchdown have proved the effectiveness of the 3D numerical model and how many problems can be solved in the course of only one numerical run, e.g. geometric and material nonlinearities, a question of contact between the mating components, investigation of the landing gear kinematics, investigation of the energy dissipation problem in the whole system and the stresses influence on the structure behaviour, which can appear in some elements due to overload.
