- The article presents a study on the t-shaped reinforced concrete beams strengthened in a shear with PBO-FRCM composite materials. It is a system consisting of PBO libers (p-Phenylene BenzobisOxazole) which are adhered to the surface of the element by mineral mortar matrix. This system can be used as effectively as FRP system, but due to premature debonding of composite from the concrete surface, proper anchoring of the composite is very important. Experimental studies were made on 4 reinforced concrete beams, where 3 of them were shear strengthened with PBO-FRCM with the anchorage, and one was a control beam. The anchorage system consisted of a glass fibre bar pasted in to the groove under the flange of a beam. Failure mechanism and effectiveness of PBO-FRCM shear strengthening are discussed.
