    Opis:
    Now that much of the civilized world is pursuing information that interests, appeals and enriches knowledge, the development of science and research can only be maintained if access to relevant publications and a possibility of sharing the knowledge on the results and conclusions of carried out research are properly secured. Addressing the demands emphasizing indispensable right of man to education and information formulated by the academic community, the idea of Open Access (of free and unlimited access to publications in science and the humanities) has followed. The article discusses setting up relevant repositories with a particular emphasis on institutional repositories at universities. The advantages and disadvantages of the idea are evaluated and discussed as well as relevant legal aspects and the place the institutional repository can occupy in scientific communication. The intention of the authors is to persuade the academic and scientific community in Poland to participate in setting up repositories, which would substantially enrich the propagation of knowledge and, within a given time perspective, enhance its better development.

    Opis:
    Celem artykułu jest wykazanie paraleli między WWW a Biblioteką Aleksandryjską. Koncepcyjnie WWW znajduje się pod wpływem wypracowanych w kulturze książki metod i sposobów organizacji i zarządzania informacją. Daje się bowiem wskazać podobieństwo między WWW a bibliotecznym zadaniem zabezpieczenia jak największej spuścizny piśmienniczego dziedzictwa kulturowego ludzkości, tj. zgromadzenia bogactwa informacyjnego in corpore i udostępnienia go in situ. Poza tym przyrost informacji w przestrzeni WWW (powstawanie coraz większej liczby stron WWW) doprowadził do konieczności stworzenia odpowiednich technologii informacyjnych, których zadaniem jest zarządzanie tymi cyfrowymi obiektami. Podczas tworzenia niektórych technologii nawiązano do głównej idei przyświecającej twórcom Biblioteki Aleksandryjskiej, tj. stworzenia pełnego repozytorium informacji. W artykule omówiono te technologie, wskazując konceptualne podobieństwo do Biblioteki Aleksandryjskiej.
    The article attempts to show parallels between WWW and the Ancient Library of Alexandria. In its conceptual approach, WWW is very much influenced by the methods, organizational procedures and information management procedures that have been worked out and developed within the book culture. There is a striking similarity between WWW and the principal task to be performed by libraries, which is to preserve and protect as much of the mankind’s cultural heritage as possible, i.e., to collect the multitude of information data in substance and to make it available in one place in situ. Furthermore, the increment of information within the www space (i.e., the increase in the number of WWW pages) has ultimately led to a necessity of a creation of appropriate information technologies that would be capable of managing these digital objects. When some of these technologies were already in the making, some of their authors referred to the main idea that had motivated the creators of the Ancient Library of Alexandria, i.e., the idea of a creation of a full and extensive information repository. The present article discusses these technologies and indicates their conceptual similarities with the Alexandria Library.

    Celem badań opisanych w artykule było przedstawienie doświadczeń pracowników Biblioteki Jagiellońskiej związanych z wdrażaniem polityki otwartego dostępu na Uniwersytecie Jagiellońskim. Opisane działania skupiają się zarówno na historycznym aspekcie wdrażania polityki, jak i na działaniach kontynuowanych lub podjętych po ogłoszeniu związanych z tym aktów prawnych. Do zbierania danych zostały wykorzystane metody analizy i krytyki piśmiennictwa oraz studium przypadku, których zastosowanie pozwoliło  szczegółowo opisać temat otwartego dostępu do nauki z perspektywy wdrożenia takiej polityki na Uniwersytecie Jagiellońskim. Na kanwie zgromadzonych doświadczeń można stwierdzić, że główne problemy we wdrażaniu otwartej nauki na uczelni to słaba znajomość tematu przez pracowników i brak dostatecznego finansowania. Do głównych zalet natomiast należą: nieograniczony dostęp oraz szersze rozpowszechnienie wyników badań i publikacji naukowych.
    The underlying goal of the present study is to investigate  the experience gained by the Jagiellonian Library staff in the implementation process of the new open knowledge policy at the Jagiellonian University. The discussed tasks and decisions pertaining to the process focus on both the historical aspects of the implementation of the policy and the relevant activities that are either being carried out now or became effective following the introduction of relevant legal acts and a series of legal instruments pertaining to the comprehensive realisation of the project. Applicable methods of literature analysis and review were used to collect data, just as a case study, which altogether allowed the concerns of open access to knowledge to be properly distinguished and discussed in detail from the perspective of its implementation at the Jagiellonian University. Our experience thus far indicates that the main issues in the implementation of open knowledge at the University include insubstantial awareness among staff, as well as insufficient funding. The main advantages of open  knowledge, however, include: limitless access to literature and a better promulgation of research results, scholarly output and publications.

    Opis:
    Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie działań poprzedzających wprowadzenie Polityki Otwartego Dostępu wobec publikacji naukowych na Politechnice Krakowskiej (PK). Działania, których skutkiem było przyjęcie otwartego mandatu na PK, obejmowały m.in.: przygotowanie infrastruktury informatycznej – w tym utworzenie Repozytorium PK, opracowanie dokumentów prawnych, udostępnienie rozpraw doktorskich, wprowadzenie otwartych licencji dla czasopism naukowych wydawanych na PK, działania informacyjne i edukacyjne w zakresie OA. Prace te realizowano zgodnie z wytycznymi zawartymi w dokumentach rządowych oraz na podstawie praktycznych rozwiązań zrealizowanych w instytucjach naukowych. Konsekwencją tych działań było wprowadzenie, na mocy zarządzenia Rektora PK z dnia 22 marca 2019 roku, Polityki Otwartego Dostępu na PK. W podsumowaniu omówiono również dane przedstawione w pierwszym Raporcie z realizacji Polityki Otwartego Dostępu na Politechnice Krakowskiej.
    The article presents actions that preceded the introduction of open access policy for scientific publications at the Cracow University of Technology. These included: preparation of the IT infrastructure, providing access to doctoral dissertations, creating the CUT Repository, development of legal documents, introducing open licenses for scientific journals published at the CUT, information and educational actions in the field of OA. These works were carried out following the guidelines contained in government documents and based on practical solutions implemented in this area in the scientific community. The above-mentioned actions led to the introduction of Open Access Policy at the CUT under the Ordinance of the Rector of the CUT of 22 March 2019. The article also discusses the data presented in the first report on the implementation of the Open Access Policy at the Cracow University of Technology and the resulting conclusions.
