Opis:: In the present article Jan Twardowski’s poems translated into Russian compared with original texts are the object of analysis. The subject matter of the works is concentrating around the most important existential problems. Irrespective of the subject matter of works, an orientation on the sacrum is one of main features of Twardowski’s poetry. Proposed analysis is situated in investigative model of cultural linguistics, referring to the cognitive paradigm. The linguistic image of the angel is investigated in two dimensions. The angel’s attributes in JOS of Polish language were specified within the limits of monolingual analysis, whereas bilingual analysis showed what happens with the JOS when it is transferred to other language, in this case to Russian language.

Opis:: The article depicts former, regionally diversified wedding lexis and helps to reconstruct rich nuptial rites hidden behind words, which were still very common in the second half of the 19th century and are now nearly completely forgotten. The resource material used as a basis of considerations herein is a nineteenth century glossary by Z. Gloger Nazwy weselne, wyrażenia i przedmioty używane przy godowych obrzędach ludu na przestrzeni byłej Rzplitej. The set of words recorded by Gloger mostly includes archaisms which not only show a fragment of a historical reality of the language but also reflect an important segment of a family and social life that does not exist anymore in the same old form.

Opis:: Artykuł prezentuje fragment językowego obrazu świata, a mianowicie koncept «woda». Przedmiotem zainteresowania są relacje zachodzące między wyrazem nazywającym koncept i jego synonimami. Układ znaczeń leksemów oraz związana z tym typowa łączliwość składają się na charakterystyczny dla danego języka sposób klasyfikowania świata. Analizowany ciąg synonimiczny składa się z dwóch leksemów – вода i влага. Jak wykazały badania, synonimy вода i влага mogą być używane wymiennie tylko wtedy, gdy nazywają niewielką ilość cieczy (капля воды «влаги»), gdy mówi się o niszczącym działaniu cieczy (Специальный крем защищает обувь от воды «влаги») oraz gdy są częścią wyrazów złożonych (водо- «влаго-» непроницаемый, водо- «влаго-» отталкивающий).
The article presents a fragment of the linguistic image of the world, i.e. the concept of «water». The author is interested in the relations occurring between the word naming a concept and its synonyms. The system of lexemes meanings and a typical cohesion connected with it compose a manner of classifying the world characteristic for a specific language. The analyzed synonymic sequence is composed of two lexemes: вода and влага. The research revealed that synonyms вода and влага can be used interchangeably only when they name a small amount of liquid (капля воды «влаги»), (капля воды «влаги»), describe a destructive operation of a liquid (Специальный крем защищает обувь от воды «влаги»), or when they constitute a part of compound words (водо- «влаго-» непроницаемый, водо- «влаго-» отталкивающий).

Opis:: The article is devoted to the analysis of vocabulary concerning aromatic sensations in Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz’s short stories. Discussing the world of fragrance sensations of Brzeziny author, I focus on elements of perception as a source of scent, ways of scent reception, the perceptor’s feelings and scent valuation by the experiencing subject. In the researched linguistic material, the most frequent sources of scent are: flowers, trees, grass, herbs, soil and human body. Within the lexis concerning olfactory sensations the most numerously exploited are word items scent and odor. Linguistic constructions use mainly a predicate to smell, which serves an euphemistic function with regard to unpleasant smells. The researched texts are characterized by an insignificant share of the vocabulary connotating pejorative evaluation of smell. The process of olfactory stimulants’ reception occurs in two manners. A passive perception prevails that is typical of man. It results from the collected material that scent is concretized by means of notion metaphors: “scent is air (wind)”, “scent is movement”, “scent is water”, and “scent is an enemy”.
