Opis:: The article attempts to determine how to classify the verb szczupać ‘to touch, to feel’ that is present in Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian languages and also in the Polish-East Slavic borderland region. As has been revealed by the analysis of documents, linguistic data gathered from historical dictionaries and dictionaries of dialects along with literary sources, the verb in question is an East Slavic borrowing that has been adopted locally in a major part of Poland’s eastern borderland and reinforced by the existence of derivatives.

Opis:: The article is a small study of the life of a word typical of north-eastern Poland. Etymology of the name chabor derived from Arabic chabar (‘news, information, rumor’) has been explained but in East Slavic lands it has circulated in a different meaning as a ‘bribe’. A geographical constraint of the occurrence of this word in Poland to the territory of Podlasie and Suwalki regions indicates a direct borrowing from East Slavic languages. The discussed word is an inherent element of a local community of northern Podlasie with its peculiarities and unique lexical features resulting from different language systems and specific mentality of its inhabitants.

Opis:: The article aims to determine the status and origin of the verb pluszczyć in three Slavic languages. The analysis of linguistic data has shown that, in terms of diachronic perspective, the unit under scrutiny is a semantic innovation that is common to Belarusian, Ukrainian and Polish (the Mazovian dialect), but has a slightly different character in each of these languages. While in Belarusian pluszczyć belongs to the lexical inventory of literary language, in Ukrainian it appears rather occassionally, but in Polish it is a regionalism (Podlasie) that can be synchronically considered as a loanword adopted from Belarusian.

Opis:: The text is devoted to the verb brechać, brzechać “bark” which is one of many examples of an overlap between Polish and East Slavonic systemic features, difficult to classify as native or foreign. The analysis of numerous sources and research papers enables to conclude that both Ruthenian brechać (expansive form that influenced derivatives) and Polish brzechać occured on Polish-East Slavonic borderland. This small difference has been either ignored or interpreted incorrectly in previous research.
