- The paper is a part of the public debate related to globalization. The particular attention is given to the new visions of the world associated with current and future development trends that have moved from national to global level, while reinforced the importance of action at the regional and local level. In this context, the article provides the information about the project of global democracy by Benjamin R. Barber, according to which it may be a remedy for the global market crisis. The article focuses on the following issues: – whether the economic globalization is an opportunity, or rather the threat of the global civil society? – how the globalization of the economy may be more “civilized” and become more democratic? – whether contemporary globalization imposes new standards policies? – what are the characteristics of the global democracy, which can be a remedy for the crisis in the global market? The additional value of the article are not yet widespread unpublished opinions of the author, who gave lectures during his visit to Wroclaw 6–8.10.2008.
