- Opis:
- DEMOCRATIC MOVEMENTS NEEDS access to media and information. Therefore, one of the 21demands of Gdańsk workers in August 1980 was „Respect for the freedom of speech, print and publication guaranteed by the Constitution and, therefore, no repression of independent publications, and allowing access to the mass media for representatives of all denominations.” The marital law imposed in December 1981 cut those expectations. They returned in February 1981 when the media policy was disputed during the Round Table negotiations. We came here to regain our rights, the Solidarity party said, to sum up the general sense of the opposition demands. Equally important was that the negotiations were shown on television, breaking the ban on images of political opposition, and news about it went ‘round Eastern Europe, becoming the catalyst of the domino-style fall on Communist regimes in the fall of 1989.
