Opis:
In order to clarify the adsorption equilibrium for the species of the extractant and the extraction complex, the interfacial tensions between the aqueous and the organic solutions were investigated, using equilibrated kerosene solution in the presence of 5-dodecylsalicylaldoxime (LIX® 860-IC) and aqueous solution in the presence and absence of nickel ion. The interfacial tensions decreased with increasing in the concentration of LIX® 860-IC. Experimental results of the interfacial tension were analyzed by Gibb’s adsorption isotherm. The adsorption equilibrium constant and the interfacial area for the extractant and the extraction complex were determined. The extraction rate of nickel from the aqueous ammonium sulfate solution with LIX® 860-IC in kerosene was investigated using a Lewis-type transfer cell. The concentration effects of extractant, nickel, and hydrogen ion on the extraction rate were examined. The extraction rate increased with increasing in the concentrations of nickel and the extractant, and approached to constant values depending on the extractant concentration at a high concentration of nickel. The rate increased with decreasing in the concentration of hydrogen ion, and approached to constant values depending on the extractant concentration. These results were analysed based on an interfacial reaction model in which the reaction proceeds between an extractant species adsorbed at the interface and nickel ion in the aqueous solution. The extraction rate is interpreted based on the rate equation in which the interfacial reaction between a 1:1 nickel chelate complex species adsorbed at the interface and the extractant in the organic solution is the rate-determining step. The reaction rate constants and equilibrium constants were determined.

Opis:
The separation of manganese(II) and nickel(II) from chloride solution with di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid (D2EHPA) was studied. The metal ions were separated using solvent extraction and transport through polymer inclusion membranes (PIMs) with D2EHPA as the extractant/ion carrier. The aqueous solutions consisted of 0.010 M manganese(II) and nickel(II) chlorides. The influence of aqueous phase pH on the separation of Mn(II) and Ni(II) has been investigated. Mn(II) can be selectively removed from chloride solution at equilibrium pH equal to 2.90. From the organic phase, Mn(II) was stripped with 0.1-2.0 M aqueous solutions of HCl, H2SO4 and HNO3. The competitive transport of Mn(II) and Ni(II) through PIMs was studied as a function of the ion carrier and plasticizer concentration in the membrane.

Opis:
The extraction equilibria of Co(II) and Ni(II) extraction from the sulphate solutions with di(2,4,4-trimethylpentyl)dithiophosphinic acid (Cyanex 301) dissolved in an aliphatic kerosene have been studied. The obtained results prove that the stoichiometry of Co(II) and Ni(II) complexes extracted with Cyanex 301 (HA) corresponds to the following formulae CoA2(HA)2 and NiA2(HA)4, respectively. The logarithmic values of corresponding extractions constants (log Kex,Co and log Kex,Ni) are equal to 2.47±0.03 and 4.73±0.02, respectively. The observed changes of electronic absorption spectra of the organic phases containing cobalt complexes have been attributed to the oxidation of Co(II) in contact with air.

Opis:
An experimental investigation concerns zinc(II), cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II) and cadmium(II) ions separation from aqueous chloride solutions by solvent extraction and transport through polymer inclusion membrane (PIM) processes. The selective transport of metal ions from the aqueous chloride source phase through PIM containing cellulose triacetate (support), o-nitrophenyl pentyl ether (plasticizer) and di(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid (ion carrier) is shown. Zn(II) can be effectively removed from dilute aqueous chloride solutions by its transport through PIMs with di(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid as the ionic carriers into 1.0 M HCl as the receiving phase. The transport selectivity of Zn(II) over Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Cd(II) decreases while the pH of the solution increases in the source phase. Also, by solvent extraction, Zn(II) can be selectively removed from dilute aqueous chloride solutions.
