Opis:
Building new roundabouts in the city centers become more and more common. Our paper is focused on evaluation of current state of traffic organization at the chosen roundabout based on the transport survey. The chosen roundabout is located on streets Tajovského, Švernova and Nad plážou in the city of Banská Bystrica, near the department store Lidl. Th e roundabout is a connection point between Podlavice neighborhood, Skubín neighborhood, Fončorda neighborhood on south and the city center. For a correct analysis of the traffic situation, a comprehensive assessment of the roundabout and its link to the surrounding traffic junctions is necessary. Once this analysis has been made, it is possible to create a transport model and then make various simulations. We are able to assess in appropriate way a current traffic situation at the roundabout and test a new proposal of roundabout solution, using simulation soft ware.

Opis:
In this paper, we give an overview and a detail analysis of our approach for vision-based real-time traffic parameters estimation using low-resolution web cameras. Traffic parameters estimation approach mainly includes three major steps, (1) stable background estimation, (2) vehicle detection, mean speed and traffic flow estimation, and (3) traffic scene classification into three states (normal and congested). The background image is estimated and updated in realtime by novel background estimation algorithm based on the median of First-in-First-Out (FIFO) buffer of rectified traffic images. Vehicles are detected by background subtraction followed by post-processing steps. By exploiting the domain knowledge of real-world traffic flow patterns, mean speed and traffic flow can be estimated reliably and accurately. Naive Bayes classifier with statistical features is used for traffic scene classification. The traffic parameter estimation approach is tested and evaluated at the German Aerospace Center’s (DLR) urban road research laboratory in Berlin for 24 hours of live streaming data from web-cameras with frames per second 1, 5 and 10. Image resolution is 348 x 259 and JPEG compression is 50%. Processed traffic data is cross-checked with synchronized induction loop data. Detailed evaluation and analysis shows high accuracy and robustness of traffic parameters estimation approach using low-resolution web-cameras under challenging traffic conditions.

Opis:
Mobility is one of the basic needs of today’s people. The amount of motor vehicles is ever increasing because of this. Hence there is more and more traffic load on every road, especially in and around urban areas. The maximum capacity of those roads is more and more often reached during peak hours, traffic jams and long travel time is the result. In big cities with high vehicle traffic numbers, it is necessary to operate traffic data collection systems for the control center. One of the most compelling sensor class is the Bluetooth/WiFi-based traffic sensor, which is a non-intrusive and inexpensive alternative to LPR (License Plate Recognition) systems. BLIDS-sensors, mounted next to the road, detect unique BT/WiFi-IDs from devices such as mobile phones and navigation systems that come within the reception range of the sensor. This unique BT/WiFi IDs are made anonymous and stored together with highly accurate exact time stamps directly on the sensor before they are transmitted to the BLIDS-server system. From the information gathered from at least two sensors, real-time traffic information (e.g. travel-times, traffic jams, dwell time at intersections, origin/destination analysis as well as traffic flows) can be calculated. The BLIDS network provides a wide range of applications. It starts with the installation of mobile solutions to provide temporary measurements and ends with fixed installations. This paper examines the measures and preconditions that need to be fulfilled for a thorough usage of BLIDS sensors in strategic route management systems.

Opis:
Traffic accident statistics point out that the most dangerous fault of drivers is the fact of not adapting the speed of their vehicles. Many of them often do not realize the fact that it is necessary to comply with the allowed speed not only for their own travel safety but also because of other road users ability to respond to them. In this case the driving speed is an essential assumption to handle a situation not only in a populated urban area but also on the open road. The quality and condition of the road surface has a signifi cant impact on the driving safety. Drivers are oft en unaware of the fact that with increasing speed also their kinetic energy increases, which is converted into braking heat then and the braking distance of their vehicles gets longer. The text provides some model situations of these effects.
