Opis:
Nickel slag has a high-content iron and is a secondary utilization resource with great development potential. The coal-based direct reduction is an innovative technology that can be used to utilize the iron resources in nickel slag. The effect of the particle size of nickel slag on the strength and the reduction of nickel slag-coal composite briquettes were investigated. Four samples with particle size of 75~106 μm, 106~150 μm, 150~270 μm, and >270 μm were selected. The drop strength increased 9.4 times and the compressive strength reached 281.1 N when the nickel slag particle size decreased from >270 μm to 75~106 μm. The reduction degree determined by the data from the thermogravimetric experiment indicated that its maximum was 79.545%. The reduction experiments performed at 1200°C for 45 minutes indicated that the nickel slag with particle sizes between 75~106 μm were appropriate for the reduction of the nickel slag-coal composite briquettes.

Reduction of three industrial nickel oxides (Goro, Tokyo and Sinter 75) with a hydrogen bearing gas was revisited in the temperature interval from 523 to 673 K (250 to 400°C). A pronounced incubation period is observed in the temperature interval tested. This period decreases as the reduction temperature increases. Thermogravimetric data of these oxides were fitted using the Avrami-Erofeyev kinetic model. The reduction of these oxides is controlled by a nucleation and growth mechanism of metallic nickel over the oxides structure. Rate kinetic constants were re-evaluated and the activation energy for the reduction of these oxides was re-calculated.

Three plants extracts were used for biosynthesis of Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs). AgNPs nucleation process requires effective reduction agents which secure Ag+ to Ag0 reduction and also stabilizing/capping agents. The UV-vis and TEM observation revealed that the best results were obtained by R. officinalis leaf extract. The strong SPR band peak appeared at the wavelength 418 nm. Synthetized AgNPs were globular, fine (~20 nm), uniform and stabile throughout the experiment. A rapid rate of AgNPs synthesis was also significant and economically advantageous factor. Fine (10-20 nm) and globular nanoparticles were synthetized also by U. dioica leaf extract, but the stability of nanoparticles was not permanent. Despite V. vitis-idaea fruit extract contains a lot of reducing agents, UV-vis did not confirm the presence of AgNPs in solution. Synthetized Ag particles were very unstable, Ag particles agglomerated very fast and clearly indicated sediment was formed.

FeCl3 bearing etching solution is mainly used for etching of metals used in shadow masks, PCBs and so on. Due course of Invar alloy etching process the FeCl3 bearing etching solution get contaminated with Ni2+ which affect adversely the etching efficiency. Hence, FeCl3 bearing etching solution discarded after several cycle of operation causes an environmental and economic problem. To address both the issues the etching solution was purified through solvent extraction and remained Ni2+ recovered by wet chemical reduction using hydrazine. For optimum Fe3+ extraction efficiency, various extraction parameter were optimized and size and morphology of the recovered pure Ni powder was analyzed. The reported process is a simple process to purify and recover Ni from industry etching solution.

Copper reduction represents one of the steps in the process of fire refining of blister copper. Process of copper reduction with natural gas as performed in the anode furnace was modeled. Numerical analysis was conducted using the IPSA (Inter- Phase-Slip Algorithm) module of PHOENICS package and standard turbulent model k - ε. The model takes into account the liquid phase - slag and phase of natural gas which is supplied through the tuyere from the bottom of the charge. Calculations were made for two different diameters of tuyeres for supply of reducer. Based on the calculations and analysis, it was found out that the gas flow which causes strong movement in the bath guarantees homogeneous composition of the liquid copper in each process stage. Application of a tuyere with a larger diameter results in a greater intensity of the reduction process and better use of the reducer.

Opis:
Copper slag is a by-product obtained during smelting and refining of copper. Copper smelting slag typically contains about 1 wt.% copper and 40 wt.% iron depending upon the initial ore quality and the furnace type. Main components of copper slag are iron oxide and silica. These exist in copper slag mainly in the form of fayalite (2FeO ·SiO2 ). This study was intended to recover pig iron from the copper smelting slag by reduction smelting method. At the reaction temperature of below 1400°С the whole copper smelting slag was not smelted, and some agglomerated, showing a mass in a sponge form. The recovery behavior of pig iron from copper smelting slag increases with increasing smelting temperature and duration. The recovery rate of pig iron varied greatly depending on the reaction temperature.

Opis:
Reduction of FeO-bearing molten slag using solid-carbon, existing in primary slag of blast furnace (BF), consumes much BF energy. It is also a limit for BF efficiency. In this paper, reduction kinetics behavior of FeO-CaO-SiO2-MgO-Al2O3 molten slag (primary slag of BF) was investigated, and the restrictive step of the reaction was identified. It has been found that the reduction process of FeO-CaO-SiO2-MgO-Al2O3 BF slag using solid-carbon is a second-order reaction. And the reduction process is controlled by both diffusion of FeO and gasification reaction of carbon in molten slag. The apparent activation energy of reaction is 342.37 kJ/mol, the diffusion activation energy of FeO in molten slag is 355 kJ/mol, and the gasification reaction activation energy of carbon is 152.98 kJ/mol. Additionally, it is also concluded that reduction rate is influenced by temperature (T), mass fraction of FeO (w(FeO)), and basicity (R) of the slag. Moreover, a reduction model of this slag system was established and verified by a series of experiments.

Utilization of the steelmaking slag by reduction is the technology which seems to be today rather controversial. However it is possible to use this way of utilization in case if the economical surround will be changed. One of the possible improvement for the described method is the modifying input materials for process reduction. The thermodynamic model was developed which enable to optimize the chemical composition of the final product. The laboratory investigations confirmed a good agreement between model calculations and experimental results.

The formation of internal cracks in as-cast billet is mainly attributed to the stress and strain states near the solidifying front. This study investigates the effect of chamfer configuration of as-cast billet on the maximal principal stress and the tensile stress during soft reduction process. The LIT and ZDT of GCr15 bearing steel are calculated by the solidification phase transformation model. What’s more, the 3D finite element models is established to investigate stress and strain states in the brittle temperature range. The relationships between chamfer angle and maximal principal stress, internal crack, as well as equivalent plastic strain are analyzed. Numerical results reveal that a chamfer configuration of as-cast billet is much more effective than a rectangular one on decreasing the risk of internal cracks.

The paper presents the results of work leading to the construction of a spatial hybrid model based on finite element (FE) and Monte Carlo (MC) methods allowing the computer simulation of physical phenomena accompanying the steel sample testing at temperatures that are characteristic for soft-reduction process. The proposed solution includes local density variations at the level of mechanical solution (the incompressibility condition was replaced with the condition of mass conservation), and at the same time simulates the grain growth in a comprehensive resistance heating process combined with a local remelting followed by free/controlled cooling of the sample tested. Simulation of grain growth in the entire computing domain would not be possible without the support of GPU processors. There was a 59-fold increase in the computing speed on the GPU compared to single-threaded computing on the CPU. The study was complemented by examples of experimental and computer simulation results, showing the correctness of the adopted model assumptions.

Experimental evidence showed that CaO reacted with SiO2 to form calcium silicate and FeO was liberated from the 2FeO.SiO2 , decreased the content of Fe in the slags, which improved the iron recovery during the magnetic separation. The final product, assaying 90.23%Fetotal (representing a metallization degree of 93.94%) and 0.58% Cu at the iron recovery of 85.70% was achieved at the basicity of 0.60, which can be briquetted as a burden material for weathering resistant steel making by electric arc furnace to replace part of scrap.

Internal cracking surrounding primary carbides in high carbon steel as-cast blooms induced by soft reduction is investigated to elucidate their influence of internal cracking on carbide precipitation and the resulting segregated band in hot-rolled wire rods. The primary carbides precipitation in high carbon steel has been investigated using both experimental observations and finite element simulations for as-cast blooms induced by soft reduction. It is found that the carbides precipitation in the vicinity of existing internal cracks is often located midway between the surface and centreline of the bloom, further increases the occurrence of the segregated bands in the hot-rolled wire rods. In addition, the growth of primary carbides surrounding the internal cracking are based on the chemical driving force and high density precipitate zones have been clarified in continuous casting bloom induced by soft reduction. It clearly shows that the spatial distribution of internal cracking surrounding primary carbides that play a key role in the formation of the segregated bands in the final steel products.
