Opis:
The Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding processes one of the prevalent methods used for welding aluminum alloys. TIG welding is most commonly used due to its superiority in welding less dense materials. The most prevalent issues encountered with TIG welding aluminium alloys are porosity creation and cracking due to solidification, both of which result in lower mechanical properties. Because of the metal’s susceptibility to heat input, this occurs. The current work is the result of a desire to improve the mechanical properties of dissimilar aluminium metals: AA5052-H32 & AA5083-H111. The process parameters of TIG welding are optimized towards eliminating the previously discussed failure scenarios. Various optimization techniques exist towards obtaining optimizing processes such as Response Surface Methodology (RSM), Genetic Algorithm (GA), Artificial Neutral Network (ANN), Flower pollination algorithm, Taguchi method etc, The Taguchi method was chosen for the optimization of process parameters due to its inherent nature of solving problems of singular variance. The optimal parameters combination was determined i.e. welding current at 170 A, filler rod diameter 2.4 mm and Gas flow rate of 11 lpm. The optimized input parameter was used to TIG weld the confirmation specimen which are further investigated for mechanical and metallurgical characterizations. The parameters were optimized and the results indicate that the input current was found to be the most contributing towards improving mechanical properties over all the process parameters.

Opis:
The effects of hydrogen absorption and manganese substitution on structural, electronic, optical, and thermoelectric properties of silicon-carbon nanotubes (SiCNT) are studied using the density functional theory and the GGA approximation. An examination of the PDOS curves and the electronic band structure showed that the Mn substitution leads to an increase in magnetic anisotropy and the occurrence of semi-metallic behavior and that the hydrogen absorption shifts the band gap toward the lower energies. A study of these nanostructures’ thermoelectric behavior reveals that the H absorption leads to a significant escalation in the figure of merit of the SiCNT to about 1.6 in the room temperature range. The effects of the H absorption on this nanotube’s optical properties, including the dielectric functions and its absorption spectra, are also investigated.

Opis:
Nowadays the automotive industry mostly prefers innovative solid-state welding technologies that would enable to welding of lightweight and high-performance materials. In this work, 3105-H18 Aluminium alloy (Al) and pure Copper (Cu) specimens with 0.5 mm thickness have been ultrasonically welded in a dissimilar (Al-Cu) manner. Optimization of process parameters of ultra-sonic welding has been carried out through full factorial method, three levels of variables considered for this experimental studies namely, weld pressure, amplitude, and time, also each variable interaction with welding strength has been studied. Additionally, micro-hardness and microstructure investigation in welded joints has been studied. The result shows that the weld strength greatly influenced weld amplitude at a medium and higher level of weld pressure. The interface micro-hardness of the welded joint has lower compared to the base metal.

Opis:
Catalytic converters contain the catalytic substance in their structure, which is a mixture of Platinum Group Metals (PGMs). The prices of these metals and a growing demand for them in the market, make it necessary to recycle spent catalytic converters and recovery of PGMs. In the study, the effect of ozone and hydrogen peroxide application on the possibility of extracting PGM from used car catalysts was investigated. The catalytic carrier was milled, sieved and then the fractions with the desired grain size were treated with the appropriate HCl mixture and 3%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 30% H2O2, respectively, and the tests were also carried out at temperature 333 K. Ozone tests were conducted with the O3 flow in the range of 1,3,5 g/h. Samples for analysis were collected after 30 min, 1 h, 2 h, 3 h and after 4 h, respectively. The residue after the experiments and filtration process was also analysed. The obtained results confirmed the assumption that PGMs can be extracted using hydrochloric acid with the addition of H2O2 or ozone as oxidants. It allows to significantly intensify the carried out reactions and to improve the rate of PGMs transfer to the solution.

Opis:
Welding of AISI H13 tool steel which is mainly used in mold making is difficult due to the some alloying elements and it high hardenability. The effect filler metal composition on the microstructural changes, phase evolutions, and hardness during gas tungsten arc welding of AISI H13 hot work tool steel was investigated. Corrosion resistance of each weld was studied. For this purpose, four filler metals i.e. ER 312, ER NiCrMo-3, ER 80S, and 18Ni maraging steel were supplied. Potentiodynamic polarization test and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were used to study the corrosion behavior of weldments. It was found the ER 80S weld showed the highest hardness owing to fully martensitic microstructure. The hardness in ER 312 and ER NiCrMo3 weld metals was noticeably lower than that of the other weld metals in which the microstructures mainly consisted of austenite phase. The results showed that the corrosion rate of ER 312 weld metal was lower than that other weld metals which is due to the high chromium content in this weld metal. The corrosion rate of ER NiCrMo-3 was lower than that of 18Ni maraging weld. The obtained results from EIS tests confirm the findings of potentiodynamic polarization tests.

Opis:
A new extraction process suitable for treating refractory CuCo2S4 under atmospheric pressure acidic leaching conditions was investigated. The effect of variables such as oxidant species, liquid-to-solid ratio, leaching time, oxidizing agent and mineral quality ratio, H2SO4 concentration, temperature and sodium chloride concentration on the extraction efficiency of Co, Cu and Fe from CuCo2S4 were investigated. Under optimal conditions including P80-P90 of the sample was d < 0.0074 mm, stirring speed of 400 rpm, leaching time of 8 h with sodium chlorate (NaClO3) and mineral quality ratio of 0.5, 2 mol/L H2SO4, liquid-to-solid ratio of 7, leaching temperature of 90°C and 4 mol/L sodium chloride. The leaching efficiency of Co, Cu, and Fe were nearly 97.08%, 100%, and 92.45%, respectively. Furthermore, the contents of cobalt and copper in leaching residue were all less than 0.4 wt.%, which satisfies the requirements of industrial production.

Opis:
The densification behavior of H13 tool steel powder by dual speed laser scanning strategy have been characterized for selective laser melting process, one of powder bed fusion based metal 3d printing. Under limited given laser power, the laser re-melting increases the relative density and hardness of H13 tool steel with closing pores. The single melt-pool analysis shows that the pores are located on top area of melt pool when the scanning speed is over 400 mm/s while the low scanning speed of 200 mm/s generates pores beneath the melt pool in the form of keyhole mode with the high energy input from the laser. With the second laser scanning, the pores on top area of melt pools are efficiently closed with proper dual combination of scan speed. However pores located beneath the melt pools could not be removed by second laser scanning. When each layer of 3d printing are re-melted, the relative density and hardness are improved for most dual combination of scanning. Among the scan speed combination, the 600 mm/s by 400 mm/s leads to the highest relative density, 99.94% with hardness of 53.5 HRC. This densification characterization with H13 tool steel laser re-melting can be efficiently applied for tool steel component manufacturing via metal 3d printing.

Opis:
The article presents the results of Transvarestraint test of a modern precipitation hardened steel X10CrNiCuNb18-9-3 with copper. For comparison, the results of tests of conventional steel without the addition of copper X5CrNi18-10 are presented. The total length of all cracks and the maximum length of cracks were measured. The study of microstructure (LM, SEM) showed that the austenitic stainless steel X10CrNiCuNb18-9-3 is very prone to hot cracking. After performing the Transvarestraint tests three types of cracks were observed: solidification cracks occurring during crystallization, liquation cracks due to segregation in the heat affected zone (HAZ) and surface cracks. Niobium carbonitrides dispersed in the bands of segregation are the reason of high susceptibility to liquation cracking. Segregation of copper occurring during solidification causes of surface cracking. A combined effect of copper and stresses contributes to formation of hot microcracks. These microcracks propagate to a depth of 20-30 μm.
