Opis:
The service life of the repair welded joint of Cr-Mo / Cr-Mo-Y This paper presents the evaluation of the service life of dissimilar repair welded joint from Cr-Mo/Cr-Mo-V steel after 200,000 h service under creep condition. The investigations of microstructure using scanning electron microscopy, investigations of mechanical properties at room and elevated temperature as well as creep tests of the basic material from Cr-Mo and Cr-Mo-V steel and welded joint from these steels were carried out. The investigations allowed the tune of further safe operation of the repair welded joint in relation to the residual life of the materials to be determined. The evaluation of residual life and disposable residual life, and thus the estimation or determination of possible time of further safe operation, is crucial when the elements are operated much beyond the design work time.

Opis:
The aim of the paper was to examine the influence of repair welded joints on the service life of steam pipelines for over 220 000 hours of service in creep conditions. The research included the study of the microstructure using scanning microscopy, the tests on mechanical properties at room and elevated temperature, determining the nil ductility transition temperature, and short-time creep tests to determine the residual life of the material. The tests allowed determining the time of further safe operation of elements of the steam pipeline with a repair welded joint, with reference to the base material, and the welded joint after service. The assessment of residual life and disposable residual life, and at the same time determining the possible time of further safe operation, has an essential meaning in the case of elements serviced considerably beyond the calculated working time.

Opis:
The Ni-Cr-Mo alloys are used as the alternative for the cobalt alloys in the manufacture of metal prosthetic elements, i.e. crowns, bridges and frame prostheses. The article attempts at a materials science characterization of the nickel-based alloy of the commercial name Argeloy N.P Be-Free by Argen. Within the study, examinations were made on the commercial alloy as well as the alloy which was remelted and cast by the los mould (lost wax) method. Observations of the microstructure were performed with the use of optical and electron scanning microscopy. Also, X-ray structural tests were conducted as well as corrosion resistance tests in an artificial saliva solution (pH = 6,7). It was demonstrated that the examined Ni-22Cr-9Mo alloy characterized in a dendritic structure typical of the cast materials. The X-ray qualitative phase analysis revealed the phase γ'(Ni) in both examined materials, as well as the presence of Cr23C6 type carbides and Nb2C, Ta2C (commercial alloy) and NbC, Ta4C0,04 (cast alloy) phases. The effect of the alloy’s remelting and the morphology of the passive layer on the corrosion resistance of the Ni-Cr-Mo alloy was examined. The results of the electrochemical tests show that the process of re-casting only slightly affects the corrosion resistance and the microstructure of the considered alloy. The roles of recasting process and the passive film homogeneity on the corrosion resistance of Ni-Cr-Mo dental alloy were reviewed. The results the electrochemical study show that the dependence of corrosion resistance on the microstructure associated with the recasting process is marginal.

Opis:
A mechanistic exposure experiment was performed on the commercially available and welded Ni-Cr-Mo-Fe alloy samples used in the piping materials of the coal gasification pilot plant. Thermodynamic Ellingham-Pourbaix stability diagrams were constructed to provide insight into the mechanism of the observed corrosion behavior. The thermodynamic inference on the corrosion mechanism was supplemented with the morphological, compositional and microstructural analyses of the exposed samples using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analyses. X-ray diffraction result revealed stable corrosion products of NiO, MoNi4 and Cr4.6 MoNi2.1 after accumulated total exposure duration of 139 h to the corrosive atmosphere. Scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy positively identified formation of rather continuous and adherent pre-oxidation corrosion products although extensively peeled-off oxides were finally observed as corrosion scales on the post-exposure alloy samples, which were attributed to the chlorination/oxidation into thin (spalled) oxides.

Thermodynamic optimizations of the ternary Fe-B-Mo system and its binary sub-system B-Mo are presented. The Fe-B-Mo description is then extended to the quaternary Fe-B-Cr-Mo system by assessing the ternary B-Cr-Mo system. The thermodynamic descriptions of the other binaries (Fe-B, Fe-Cr, Fe-Mo, B-Cr, and Cr-Mo) and the other ternaries (Fe-B-Cr and Fe-Cr-Mo) are taken from earlier studies. In this study, the adjustable parameters of the B-Mo, Fe-B-Mo, and B-Cr-Mo systems were optimized using the experimental thermodynamic and the phase equilibrium data from the literature. The solution phases of the system (liquid, bcc and fcc) are described with the substitutional solution model, and most borides are treated as stoichiometric phases or semistoichiometric phases, using a simple two-sublattice model for the latter. The system’s intermetallic phases, Chi, Mu, R, and Sigma (not dissolving boron) as well as boride M3B2, based on a formulation of (Cr,Fe)(Cr,Fe,Mo)2(B)2, are described with a three-sublattice model. Reasonable agreement is obtained between the calculated and measured phase equilibria in all four systems: B-Mo; Fe-B-Mo; B-Cr-Mo; and Fe-B-Cr-Mo.

Opis:
Co-Cr-Mo based sheet I-WP lattice was fabricated via laser powder bed fusion. The effect of microstructure and the I-WP shape on compressive mechanical response was investigated. Results of compression test showed that yield strength of the sheet I-WP was 176.3 MPa and that of bulk Co-Cr-Mo (reference material) was 810.4 MPa. By applying Gibson-Ashby analytical model, the yield strength of the lattice was reversely estimated from that of the bulk specimen. The calculated strength of the lattice obtained was 150.7 MPa. The shape of deformed lattice showed collective failure mode, and its microstructure showed that strain-induced martensitic transformation occurred in the overall lattice. The deformation behavior of additively manufactured sheet I-WP lattice was also discussed.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to synthesize and characterize the selected in-situ composites from the Fe-Cr-Ni-Mo-C system, additionally strengthened by intermetallic compounds. The project of the alloys was supported by thermodynamic simulations using Calculation of Phase Diagram approach via Thermo-Calc. Selected alloys were synthesized in an arc furnace in a high purity argon atmosphere using a suction casting unit. The studies involved a range of experimental techniques to characterize the alloys in the as-cast state, including optical emission spectrometry, light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, electron microprobe analysis, X-ray diffraction and microhardness tests. These experimental studies were compared with the Thermo-Calc data and high resolution dilatometry. The results of investigations presented in this paper showed that there is a possibility to introduce intermetallic compounds, such as χ and σ, through modification of the chemical composition of the alloy with respect to Nieq and Creq. It was found that the place of intermetallic compounds precipitation strongly depends on matrix nature. Results presented in this paper may be successfully used to build a systematic knowledge about the group of alloys with a high volume fraction of complex carbides, and high physicochemical properties, additionally strengthened by intermetallic compounds.

Opis:
In this study, the effect of the addition of ZrO2 and Al2O3 ceramic powders to Cu-Mo-Cr alloy was studied by examining the physical properties of the composite material. The ceramic additives were selected based on the thermodynamic stability calculation of the Cu-Mo-Cr alloys. Elemental powders, in the ratio Cu:Mo:Cr = 60:30:10 (wt.%), and approximately 0-1.2 wt.% of ZrO2 and Al2O3 were mixed, and a green compact was formed by pressing the mixture under 186 MPa pressure and sintering at 1250°C for 5 h. The raw powders were evenly dispersed in the mixed powder, as observed by scanning electron microscopy. After sintering, the microstructures, densities, electrical conductivities, and hardness of the composites were evaluated. We found that the addition of ZrO2 and Al2O3 increased the hardness and decreased the electrical conductivity and density of the composites.

Opis:
An open-cell Ni-Mo-Cr foam was newly manufactured using electrostatic powder spraying process and its room-temperature compressive properties were investigated in this study. For manufacturing Ni-Mo-Cr foam, Ni-Mo-Cr powders were sprayed on the polyurethane pre-form by electrostatic powder spraying process. And then, Ni-Mo-Cr powder sprayed pre-forms were sintered at 1200°C, 1250°C, and 1300°C, respectively. The relative densities of Ni-Mo-Cr foams were measured at 4 ~ 5%. Room tempera-ture compressive curves of ESP Ni-Mo-Cr foams represented the typical compressive 3-stages (elastic, plateau, densification) of open-cell metallic foam. As a result of observation of deformed specimen, the fracture mode found to be changed from brittle to ductile as sintering temperature increased. Based on these findings, correlations between structural characteristics, microstructure, and compressive deformation behavior were also discussed.
