Opis:
The paper presents the results of comparative tests of the fatigue properties conducted on two non-ferrous alloys designated as Al 6082 and Al 7075 which, due to the satisfactory functional characteristics, are widely used as engineering materials. The fatigue tests were carried out using a proprietary, modified low cycle test (MLCF). Particular attention was paid to the fatigue strength exponent b and fatigue ductility exponent c. Based on the tests carried out, the results comprised within the range defined by the literature were obtained. These results prove a satisfactory sensitivity of the method applied, its efficiency, the possibility of conducting tests in a fully economical way and above all the reliability of the obtained results of the measurements. Thus, the thesis has been justified that the modified low cycle fatigue test (MLCF) can be recommended as a tool used in the development of alloy characteristics within the range of low-cycle variable loads.

Opis:
W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań zmęczenia cieplnego żeliwa GJS-800-8. Określono wpływ maksymalnej temperatury cyklu (Tmax) na odporność na zmęczenie cieplne wyznaczane metodą L.F. Coffina. Opisano także zmiany struktury powodowane procesem zmęczenia cieplnego. Przedstawiono jak zmienia się twardość, która jest wyznacznikiem wysokiej wytrzymałości. Opisano zjawisko ferrytyzacji osnowy i spadku w procesie zmęczenia cieplnego twardości (HB) i związanej z twardością wytrzymałości (Rm). Wykazano iż w procesie zmęczenia cieplnego struktura żeliwa ADI ulega przemianie, osnowa ausferrytyczna jest przebudowywana najpierw w perlityczną a następnie w ferrytyczny.
The work presents results of investigations on thermal fatigue of GJS-800-8 cast iron. Influence of the maximum temperature of cycle (Tmax) on the thermal fatigue determined by L.F. Coffin method was determined. Changes of structure caused by the thermal fatigue were described. Changes of hardness of ADI cast iron during the thermal fatigue process as a function of maximum cycle temperature (Tmax) were presented. Phenomena of matrix ferritization and decrease of hardness (HB) and related to it strength (Rm) during the thermal cycle process were described. It was shown that during the thermal fatigue process structure of ADI cast iron transforms in such a way that austoferritic matrix first reconstructs to perlitic and then to ferritic one. It was proved, that alloy addition significantly increase thermal fatigue resistance (Mo, Ni, Cu) and do not stabilize cast iron structure during cyclic heating, but they slow down the changes process. Increase of the thermal cycle temperature decreases thermal fatigue resistance of ADI cast iron, and accelerates changes of its microstructure, and “cycle by cycle” decreases its strength. After exceeding Tmax=500ºC thermal fatigue process also causes decrease of hardness (HB).

Opis:
The method of obtaining the vermicular cast iron in the “Inmold” technology and the results of the thermal fatigue investigations, are presented in the paper. The influence of the maximum cycle temperature (Tmax) on the thermal fatigue resistance was examined by means of the L.F. Coffin method. The cast iron structure change caused by the thermal fatigue is presented in the paper. When the vermicular cast iron is subjected to the thermal fatigue the matrix ferritisation occurs, which leads to the strength, Rm., decrease. The heating process of the vermicular cast iron is slower as compared to the spheroidal cast iron, whereas the cooling process is faster. Under the same conditions of heat exchanging the vermicular cast iron is heated to a much lower temperature than the spheroidal one. Together with the maximum heating temperature increase the thermal fatigue resistance decreases.

Opis:
In this study, the mechanical tests were carried out on ductile iron of EN-GJS-600-3 grade and on grey cast iron of EN-GJL-250 grade. The fatigue life was evaluated in a modified low-cycle fatigue test (MLCF), which enables the determination of parameters resulting from the Manson-Coffin-Morrow relationship. The qualitative and quantitative metallographic studies conducted by light microscopy on selected samples of ductile iron with spheroidal graphite and grey cast iron with lamellar graphite (showing only small variations in mechanical properties,) confirmed also small variations in the geometrical parameters of graphite related with its content and morphological features.

Opis:
Diesel engine components in the combustion chamber have been exposed to cyclic loadings under environmental effects, including high temperatures and corrosive fluids. Therefore, knowing the corrosion-fatigue behavior of materials is essential for designer engineers. In this article, pure fatigue and corrosion-fatigue behaviors of the piston aluminum alloy have been experimentally investigated. For such an objective, as-cast and pre-corrosive standard samples were tested by the rotary bending fatigue machine, under 4 stress levels. Some specimens were exposed to the corrosive fluid with 0.00235 % of the sulfuric acid for 100 and 200 hours. The results showed higher weight losses for 200 hours immersion times. As another result, it could be concluded that the lifetime decreased in pre-corrosive samples for both 100 and 200 hours of the immersion time, compared to that of as-cast specimens. However, such a lifetime reduction was more significant for 200 hours of the immersion time, especially within the high-cycle fatigue regime (or lower stress levels). Under high stress levels, both pre-corrosive sample types had almost similar behaviors. The field-emission scanning electron microscopy images of specimen fracture surfaces indicated that the brittle region of the fractured surface was larger for specimens after the 200 hours of corrosion-fatigue testing than the other specimen.

Opis:
Constantly developing production process and high requirements concerning the quality of glass determine the need for continuous improvement of tools and equipment needed for its production. Such tools like forms, most often made of cast-iron, are characterized by thick wall thickness compared to their overall dimensions and work in difficult conditions such as heating of the surface layer, increase of thermal stresses resulting from the temperature gradient on the wall thickness, occurrence of thermal shock effect, resulting from cyclically changing temperatures during filling and emptying of the mould. There is no best and universal method for assessing how samples subjected to cyclic temperature changes behave. Research on thermal fatigue is a difficult issue, mainly due to the instability of this parameter, which depends on many factors, such as the temperature gradient in which the element works, the type of treatment and the chemical composition of the material. Important parameters for these materials are at high temperature resistance to thermal shock and thermal fatigue what will be presented in this paper.

Opis:
Paper presents the assessment of impact of heat treatment on durability in low-cycle fatigue conditions (under constant load) in castings made using post-production scrap of MAR-247 and IN-713C superalloys. Castings were obtained using modification and filtration methods. Additionally, casting made of MAR-247 were subjected to heat treatment consisting of solution treatment and subsequent aging. During low-cycle fatigue test the cyclic creep process were observed. It was demonstrated that the fine-grained samples have significantly higher durability in test conditions and , at the same time, lower values of plastic deformation to rupture Δ□pl. It has been also proven that durability of fine-grained MAR-247 samples can be further raised by about 60% using aforementioned heat treatment.

Opis:
The graphite form in cast iron is the structure parameter deciding on its all physical and mechanical properties. Three basic forms of graphite: flake, vermicular (compact) and nodular (spheroidal) are singled out in standard cast iron grades, without a heat treatment. Standards of individual grades of cast iron the most often allow only the homogeneous graphite form, sometimes with addition of 5÷10% of the other form. The interesting and - in the authors opinion - future-oriented material can constitute cast iron in which various forms of graphite are present, e.g. in comparative amounts: spherical and vermicular cast irons. Cast iron within which graphite occurs in two or three forms was named „Vari-Morph” (VM) cast iron, i.e. the one in which spherical and vermicular or vermicular and flake graphite occur in a wide range of proportions. The results of investigations of these new cast iron grades and their properties are presented in the hereby paper.
