Opis:
The paper analyses the as-cast state structure of chromium cast iron designed for operation under harsh impact-abrasive conditions. In the process of chromium iron castings manufacture, very strong influence on the structure of this material have the parameters of the technological process. Among others, adding to the Fe-Cr-C alloy the alloying elements like tungsten and titanium leads to the formation of additional carbides in the structure of this cast iron, which may favourably affect the casting properties, including the resistance to abrasive wear.

Opis:
This article proposes to use abrasive waterjet cutting (AWJ) for deflashing, deburring and similar finishing operations in casting. The basic requirements concerning the dimensional accuracy and surface texture of cast components are not met if visible surface flaws are detected. The experiments focused on the removal of external flash from elements made of EN-GJL-150 cast iron. The method employed for finishing was abrasive waterjet cutting. The tests were carried out using an APW 2010BB waterjet cutting machine. The form profiles before and after flash removal were determined with a Taylor Hobson PGI 1200 contact profiler. A Nikon AZ100 optical microscope was applied to observe and measure the changes in the flash height and width. The casting surface after finishing was smooth, without characteristic sharp, rough edges that occur in the cutting of objects with a considerable thickness. It should be emphasized that this method does not replace precise cutting operations. Yet, it can be successfully used to finish castings for which lower surface quality is required. An undoubted advantage of waterjet cutting is no effect of high temperature as is the case with plasma, laser or conventional cutting. This process is also easy to automate; one tool is needed to perform different finishing operations in order to obtain the desired dimensions, both internal and external.

Opis:
The paper presents the production problems related to casting using precision casting methods. The essential adverse effect of the casting process is the presence of burrs understood as oversize material necessary to remove the next finishing operations. In addition, the surfaces of the cast often characterized by a porous structure. One of the methods to improve the smoothness of the area proposed by the authors is the use of vibro-abrasive finishing. This type of treatment is widely used in the treatment of finishing small objects as well as complex shapes. Objects in the form of casting in the first step was treated with aggressive deburring polyester matrix abrasive media. The second stage was polishing, with using smoothing porcelain media. The study evaluated the effect of vibro-abrasive machining typical cast on the basic parameters of the geometric structure of the surface. Observations using optical microscope Nicon Eclipse MA 200 compared changes in surface microstructure and the effect of deburring. Clearly we can say that vibro-abrasive machining an effective way of reducing the size of burrs, smoothing and lightening the surface of objects made by casting.

Opis:
Obtaining high resistance parameters is a result of generation process of fine-dispersive phases of nitrides, carbides and carbonitrides in the process of solidification and thermal processing. The precipitates formed as a consequence of introduction of: Ti, V, Nb and Al play the role of grain growth inhibitors. Aluminum forms a separate AlN phase, which does not form a solution with the remaining nitrides and carbonitrides. This paper is devoted to the process of AlN inclusions formation in the process of solidification of steel with a microaddition of Al. The process was simulated with the use of own computer program. The calculations were performed for the cooling conditions 100 and 500K/min. The obtained results were illustrated with figures. The influence of the casting rates on the process of aluminum nitride formation as pure non-metallic phase or component of the oxidic solution was analyzed. It was observed that the formation of AlN precipitates takes place easier when nitride is part of a solution composed of a non-metallic phase and at a higher cooling rate. This means that the higher cooling rate, and consequently higher casting rate, favor the precipitation processes and so the fine-grained structure. The results obtained for AlN prove that precipitates formation is conditioned by the concentration of both components. The quantity of the obtained compound will depend on the content of more deficient element, in this case nitrogen. The final distribution and size of particles of second phase will depend on the diffusion process of AlN particles' growth.
Uzyskanie wysokich właściwości wytrzymałościowych jest wynikiem procesów wydzielania drobno dyspersyjnych faz azotków, węglików i węglikoazotków w procesie krzepnięcia i obróbki cieplnej. Oznacza to, że zwiększenie szybkości chłodzenia, a w konsekwencji zwiększenie szybkości odlewania sprzyja procesowi wydzieleniowemu, a w rezultacie powstawaniu struktury drobnoziarnistej. O ostatecznym rozkładzie i wielkości cząstek drugiej fazy będzie decydować proces dyfuzyjnego wzrostu cząstek AlN.

The article presents an example of finishing treatment for aluminum alloys with the use of vibration machining, with loose abrasive media in a closed tumbler. For the analysis of selected properties of the surface layer prepared flat samples of aluminum alloy PA6/2017 in the state after recrystallization. The samples in the first stage were subjected to a treatment of deburring using ceramic media. In a second step polishing process performed with a strengthening metal media. In addition, for comparative purposes was considered. only the case of metal polishing. The prepared samples were subjected to hardness tests and a tangential tensile test. As a result of finishing with vibratory machining, it was possible to remove burrs, flash, rounding sharp edges, smoothing and lightening the surface of objects made. The basic parameters of the surface geometry were obtained using the Talysurf CCI Lite - Taylor Hobson optical profiler. As a result of the tests it can be stated that the greatest reduction of surface roughness and mass loss occurs in the first minutes of the process. Mechanical tests have shown that the most advantageous high values of tensile strength and hardness are obtained with two-stage vibration treatment, - combination of deburring and polishing. Moreover the use of metal media resulted in the strengthening of the surface by pressure deburring with metal media.

Opis:
In this study, a preliminary evaluation was made of the applicability of the signals of the cutting forces, vibration and acoustic emission in diagnosis of the hardness and microstructure of ausferritic ductile iron and tool edge wear rate during its machining. Tests were performed on pearlitic-ferritic ductile iron and on three types of ausferritic ductile iron obtained by austempering at 400, 370 and 320°C for 180 minutes. Signals of the cutting forces (F), vibration (V) and acoustic emission (AE) were registered while milling each type of the cast iron with a milling cutter at different degrees of wear. Based on individual signals from all the sensors, numerous measures were determined such as e.g. the average or maximum signal value. It was found that different measures from all the sensors tested depended on the microstructure and hardness of the examined material, and on the tool condition. Knowing hardness of the material and the cutting tool edge condition, it is possible to determine the structure of the material .Simultaneous diagnosis of microstructure, hardness, and the tool condition is probably feasible, but it would require the application of a diagnostic strategy based on the integration of numerous measures, e.g. using neural networks.

This article proposes these of vibratory machining to Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy as finishing treatment. Titanium alloy was used in the aerospace industry, military, metallurgical, automotive and medical processes, extreme sports and other. The three-level three-factor Box-Behnken experiment examined the influence of machining time of vibratory machining, the type of mass finishing media used and the initial state of the surface layer on the mass loss, geometric structure of the surface, micro hardness and the optimal process parameters were determined. Considerations were given the surfaces after milling, after cutting with a band saw and after the sanding process. The experiment used three types of mass finishing media: polyester, porcelain and metal. Duration of vibratory machining treatment was assumed to be 20, 40, 60 minutes. The form profiles before and after vibratory machining were determined with the Talysurf CCI Lite - Taylor Hobson optical profiler. Future tests should concern research to carry out tests using abrasive pastes with a larger granulation of abrasive grains, to carry out tests for longer processing times and to determine the time after which the parameters of geometrical structure of the surface change is unnoticeable.

The article presents the results of research on the finishing of M63 Z4 brass by vibratory machining. Brass alloy was used for the research due to the common use of ammunition elements, cartridge case and good cold forming properties on the construction. Until now, the authors have not met with the results of research to determine the impact of abrasive pastes in container processing. It was found that the additive for container abrasive treatment of abrasive paste causes larger mass losses and faster surface smoothing effects. The treatment was carried out in two stages: in the first stage, the workpieces were deburred and then polished. Considerations were given to the impact of mass of workpieces, machining time and its type on mass loss and changes in the geometric structure of the surface. The surface roughness of machining samples was measured with the Talysurf CCI Lite optical profiler. The suggestions for future research may be to carry out tests using abrasive pastes with a larger granulation of abrasive grains, and to carry out tests for longer processing times and to determine the time after which the parameters of SGP change is unnoticeable.

The scientific objective of the research is to develop a strategy to build computer based vision systems for inspection of surface defects in products, especially discontinuities which appear in castings after machining. In addition to the proposed vision inspection method the authors demonstrates the development of the advanced computer techniques based on the methods of scanning to measure topography of surface defect in offline process control. This method allow to identify a mechanism responsible for the formation of casting defects. Also, the method allow investigating if the, developed vision inspection system for identification of surface defects have been correctly implemented for an online inspection. Finally, in order to make casting samples with gas and shrinkage porosity defects type, the LGT gas meter was used . For this task a special camera for a semi-quantitative assessment of the gas content in aluminum alloy melts, using a Straube-Pfeiffer method was used. The results demonstrate that applied solution is excellent tool in preparing for various aluminum alloys the reference porosity samples, identified next by the computer inspection system.

In this study T6 heat treated 6063 aluminum alloys were used as substrate material. In order to form a bond between the substrate and the main coating, all samples were coated with Ni-Cr-Al powders. 8 wt% Yttria Stabilized Zirconia powders (YSZ) were coated with plasma spray technique. Thickness of YSZ was 150 m and bond coating was 36 m. XRD and SEM-EDS analyses were performed to characterize the coating layers. These YSZ coated and uncoated samples were subjected to wear testing under different spindle speed, loading and working distance. Wear test results were compared with the kinetic friction coefficients and weight loss values. Wear marks on YSZ coated and uncoated samples were investigated by SEM analysis. By coating with plasma spray technique, the wear resistance of Al alloys was increased without changing the friction coefficient. It was found that spindle speed had significant effect over the wear properties than the load applied. By YSZ coating, wear properties were increased 10 times.

Symulację prowadzono dla temperatury procesu 1500, 1600, 1700 K. Gazowe produkty reakcji redukcji i stop Cu–Fe–Pb były usuwane z układu w każdym kroku obliczeniowym. Uzyskane wyniki obliczeń wykazały, że redukcja za pomocą węgla odgrywa zasadniczą rolę w procesie odzysku miedzi.
The present work deals with thermodynamic analysis of process of the reduction of molten slag containing copper oxide. Reduction of liquid slag is possible with solid carbon, gaseous carbon oxide. and carbon dissolved in liquid slag. This work studied two chemical reactions of liquid slag containing copper oxide: with solid carbon and gaseous CO. Thermodynamic equilibrium in the system: solid carbon – liquid slag – metallic alloy Cu–Fe–Pb – gas and gaseous CO – liquid slag – metallic Cu–Fe–Pb – gas were calculated by means of FACTSage software. The simulation of the progress of reduction process at 1500, 1600, 1700K was obtained under assumption that the gaseous reduction products and metallic alloy Cu–Fe–Pb were removed from consideration after each simulation step. The calculation revealed that consumption of reducing agent is much higher in the case of CO reduction. The effect of simulation suggested, that reduction with solid carbon is the predominant mode of industrial process.

In this work, an assessment and comparison of the quality of selected bentonites and bentonite mixtures was made. The samples consisted of available foundry materials used for bonding green sands. Determining the homogeneity degree and specific surface area of the grains allowed us to compare the examined materials and determine their influence on other parameters. On the basis of a thermal analysis of the bentonites or bentonite mixtures, the changes occurring in the sample during its heating were determined. Determining the potential for ion exchange and montmorillonite content enabled us to assess the binding properties of the materials. The preparation of six green sands with different bentonites or bentonite mixtures gave us the opportunity to assess the changes in apparent density, permeability, compressive strength and friability as a function of humidity, and the impact of different materials on the mentioned parameters. Their charts were analyzed, and the molding sand with the addition of bentonite or a bentonite mixture was selected for which these parameters are favorable. On this basis, the best-presented binding material was assessed and selected.
