Opis:
The paper presents the results of studies on the effect of the AlSi17Cu5 alloy overheating to a temperature of 920°C and modification with phosphorus (CuP10) on the resulting mechanical (HB, Rm, R0.2) and plastic (A5 and Z) properties. It has been shown that, so-called, "time-thermal treatment" (TTT) of an alloy in the liquid state, consisting in overheating the metal to about 250°C above Tliq., holding at this temperature by 30 minutes improves the mechanical properties. It has also been found that overheating of alloy above Tliq. enhances the process of modification, resulting in the formation of fine-grain structure. The primary silicon crystals uniformly distributed in the eutectic and characteristics of the \alfa(Al) solution supersaturated with alloying elements present in the starting alloy composition (Cu, Fe) provide not only an increase of strength at ambient temperature but also at elevated temperature (250°C).

Opis:
The effectiveness of cast iron inoculation performed by means of three various inoculants: FeSiSr–SYSTR 75 AV, FeSiZr–SYZR 25 AV and Zircinoc was determined. The inoculants were introduced to the cast iron during the pouring of production moulds. Examination of cast iron structure and mechanical properties were carried out for specimens cut out of the collars of the cast valve bodies. It was found that the quantity of eutectic cells increased to the greatest degree if FeSiZr–SYZR 25 AV inoculant was applied in quantities of 0.20% or 0.25%. This inoculant in the mentioned quantities also increases the tensile strength to the greatest degree, rising it to the level of 250-265 MPa.

Opis:
High-vanadium cast iron is the white cast iron in which the regular fibrous \gamma + VC eutectic with the volume fraction of vanadium carbide amounting to about 20% crystallises. This paper presents the results of studies on high-vanadium cast iron subjected to the inoculation treatment with magnesium master alloy. The aim of this operation is to change the morphology of the crystallising VC carbides from the fibrous shape into a spheroidal one. The study also examines the effect of the amount of the introduced inoculant on changes in the morphology of the crystallising VC carbides. To achieve the goals once set, metallographic studies were performed on high-vanadium cast iron of eutectic composition in base state and after the introduction of a variable content of the inoculant. The introduction of magnesium-based master alloy resulted in the expected changes of microstructure. The most beneficial effect was obtained with the introduction of 1.5% of magnesium master alloy, since nearly half of the crystallised vanadium carbides have acquired a spheroidal shape.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of research on the impact of impurities in the feed ingots (master heat) on the precipitation of impurities in the ATD thermal analysis probe castings. This impurities occur mostly inside shrinkage cavities and in interdendritic space. Additionally, insufficient filtration of liquid alloy during pouring promotes the transfer of impurities into the casting. The technology of melting superalloys in vacuum furnace prevents the removal of slag from the surface of molten metal. Because of that, the effective method of quality assessment of feed ingots in order to evaluate the existence of impurities is needed. The effectiveness of ATD analysis in evaluation of purity of feed ingots was researched. In addition the similarities of non-metallic inclusions in feed ingots and in castings were observed.
