Opis:
Magnetic properties of silicon iron electrical steel are determined by using standardized measurement setups and distinct excitation parameters. Characteristic values for magnetic loss and magnetization are used to select the most appropriate material for its application. This approach is not sufficient, because of the complex material behavior inside electrical machines, which can result in possible discrepancies between estimated and actual machine behavior. The materials’ anisotropy can be one of the problems why simulation and measurement are not in good accordance. With the help of a rotational single sheet tester, the magnetic material can be tested under application relevant field distribution. Thereby, additional effects of hysteresis and anisotropy can be characterized for detailed modelling and simulation.

When the in-wheel motor is working, it will be affected by gravity, centrifugal force and electromagnetic force. These three kinds of mechanical loads will affect the mechanical stress characteristics of the in-wheel motor, and then affect the reliability of the in-wheel motor structure. In order to understand the influence of the above loads on the mechanical stress of the in-wheel motor, this paper takes a 15-kW built-in permanent magnet in-wheel motor as the research object. Based on the establishment of the electromagnetic field and structure field coupling analysis model of the in-wheel motor, the mechanical stress of the in-wheel motor under different mechanical loads under rated and peak conditions are calculated and analyzed, and the influence of different mechanical loads on the stress and deformation of the in-wheel motor are studied. The research results show that, regardless of the rated operating condition or the peak operating condition, the in-wheel motor has the largest mechanical stress and deformation under the combined action of centrifugal force and electromagnetic force, and the smallest mechanical stress and deformation under the action of gravity only; under the same load (except for the case of gravity only), the stress and deformation of the in-wheel motor under the peak operating condition are larger than those under the rated operating condition; and the maximum stress and deformation of the in-wheel motor appear at the rotor magnetic bridge and the inner edge of the rotor, respectively, so the rotor is an easily damaged part of the in-wheel motor.

This paper deals with some aspects of formulation and implementation of a broadband algorithm with build-in analysis of some dispersive media. The construction of the finite element method (FEM) based on direct integration of Maxwell’s equations and solution of some additional convolution integrals is presented. The broadband, fractional model of permittivity is approximated by a set of some relaxation sub-models. The properties of the 3D time-dependent formulation of the FEM algorithm are determined using a benchmark problem with the Cole-Cole and the Davidson-Cole models. Several issues associated with the implementation and some constraints of the broadband finite element algorithm are presented.

By simulating the actual working conditions of a cable, the temperature variation rule of different measuring points under different load currents was analyzed. On this basis, a three-dimensional finite element model (FEM) was established, and the difference and influence factors between the simulation temperature and the experimental measured value were discussed, then the influence of thermal conductivity on the operating temperature of the conductor layer was studied. Finally, combined with the steady-state thermal conductivity model and the experimental measured data, the relation between thermal conductivity and load current was obtained.

Opis:
The presented systems with magnetically coupled windings are solved with the finite element method. If the issue of voltage supply is analyzed, a system of linear equations with a partially skew-symmetric sparse matrix is obtained. Iterative methods used to solve a system of equations are particularly effective for symmetric matrices. Resultant equations can be reduced to this symmetrical form by using the method known from the literature [1]. The ratio of the maximum to the minimum eigenvalue of the main matrix of this circuit, which is the condition number, is however very high. This means that the problem is ill-conditioned and leads to a very long iterative solution process. The method presented in the article allows for a direct solution of a system of equations on its part, corresponding to high eigenvalues of the system matrix. The remaining part of the system of equations is solved by iterative methods. This part has much better condition number, and therefore the computational process is fast. The proposed iterative process depends on multiplication of a sparse matrix by vectors. It is not necessary (and possible) to store the entire matrix. This is especially important for larger sizes of a matrix.

Opis:
This paper aims at providing a framework for comprehensive steady-state time-domain analysis of rotating machines considering motion. The steady-state waveforms of electromagnetic and circuit quantities are computed via iterative solution of the nonlinear field-circuit-and-motion problem with constraints of time periodicity. The cases with forced speed and forced load torque are considered. A comparison of execution times with a conventional time-stepping transient model is carried out for two different machines. The numerical stability of a time-periodic model with forced speed is shown to be worse than that of traditional transient time-stepping one, although the model converges within a reasonable number of iterations. This is not the case if forced load via equation of mechanical balance is accounted for. To ensure convergence of the iterative process the physical equation of motion is replaced by the fixed-point equation. In this way the model delivers time-periodic solutions regarding not only the electromagnetic quantities but also the rotational speed.

The paper describes the formulation and implementation of the broadband finite element time domain algorithm. The presented formalism is valid to analysis of electromagnetic phenomena in linear, frequency selective materials. The complex profile of permittivity of materials is approximated using a set of the Lorentz resonance models. The solution of the integro-differential second order equation is obtained using a singlestep integration scheme and a recursive convolution algorithm. The discussed formulation enables to adopt the structure of the narrowband part as well as the phase of calculation of the convolution equations for the subsequent components. The properties of the algorithm are validated using a finite difference broadband algorithm.

Due to speed-dependent centrifugal forces, the support of the torque, static mechanical stress introduced by manufacturing processes the laminated core of rotating electrical machines is exposed to considerable mechanical stress. The resulting stress distribution changes the magnetic properties of the electrical steel. To take this into account, a magnetization model is constituted on the basis of vector magneto-mechanical measurements that include the magnetic permeability as a function of the mechanical stress and the angle between magnetization - and the maximum principal stress direction. Subsequently, the model is integrated into the finite element simulation of a permanent magnet excited synchronous machine at different rotational speeds.

The multi-phase permanent-magnet machines with a fractional-slot concentratedwinding (FSCW) are a suitable choice for certain purposes like aircraft, marine, and electric vehicles, because of the fault tolerance and high power density capability. The paper aims to design, optimize and prototype a five-phase fractional-slot concentrated-winding surface-mounted permanent-magnet motor. To optimize the designed multi-phase motor a multi-objective optimization technique based on the genetic algorithm method is applied. The machine design objectives are to maximize torque density of the motor and maximize efficiency then to determine the best choice of the designed machine parameters. Then, the two-dimensional Finite Element Method (2D-FEM) is employed to verify the performance of the optimized machine. Finally, the optimized machine is prototyped. The paper found that the results of the prototyped machine validate the results of theatrical analyses of the machine and accurate consideration of the parameters improved the acting of the machine.

Opis:
This study presents the dependence of the level and harmonic structure of the cogging torque in permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) to imperfections of permanent magnet (PM) dimensions and positions, which can not be avoided in massproduction. Slightly diverse dimensions and misplacements of PMs are introducing asymmetries in magnetic field distribution which cause additional harmonic components. A finite element method (FEM) and Fast Fourier transform (FFT) were used to calculate cogging torque harmonic components with regard to several combinations of PM assembly imperfections. It has been established and proved that unequal PMs cause magnetic asymmetries which give rise to additional cogging torque harmonic components and consequently increase the total cogging torque. It is also shown that in some particular combinations the influence of an individual PM imprecision could compensate with others due to different phase shifts which can result even in the decrease of cogging torque. Considering presented results it is possible to foresee which additional harmonic components will comprise the cogging torque of mass-produced PMSMs due to PM imperfections. In this way the designers are able to predetermine required manufacturing tolerances to keep the level of cogging torque in a admissible level. Simulation results were verified and confirmed by laboratory tests.
