Opis:
Patients with trichinellosis (154), divided in 3 groups, depending on the severity of clinical picture, were observed for the effect of glycocorticoids, butazolidine and butazolidine combined with glycocorticoids. There were no essential differences among the individual groups treated with glycocorticoids, butazolidine or butazolidine along with glycocorticoids as to the persistance of clinical symptoms (muscular pains, oedema, fever). Moreover, it was found that, in patients with moderate or slight degree of trichinellosis, treated only with allergan and calcium gluconatum, the muscular pains persisted for the same period cf time, whereas fever and oedema subsided as early as in the first days of the treatment.

Opis:
The gravid proglottids of Taenia saginata from human infection before and after treatment of patient with niclosamide (Yomesan) were used for studies on oncosphere envelope ultrastructure. The envelopes examined were intact after drug treatment. The samples from niclosamide-treated and untreated patients were similar with respect to number and kinds of the protective structures surrounding the oncospheres inside gravid proglottids. Their morphology was generally similar to this described earlier for other taeniid species. Details of the ultrastructure of oncospheral envelopes from niclosamide-treated patients are presented in the paper. Contamination of the environment with eggs from treated patients, particularly in poor sanitary conditions, is discussed.

Opis:
Two commercial faecal antigen tests, based on Giardia specific antigens, were compared with traditional microscopical examination of faeces in 40 clinical patients, including 14 patients with a confirmed Giardia infection as well as in a survey among 96 children in four day care centers. The results obtained with these faecal antigen tests were not much better than by using traditional microscopy by a well trained parasitologist. Specific Giardia antigen (GSA 65) has been still detected in faeces up to day 4th after treatment of giardiosis, when microscopical examination of faeces was already for a few days negative. The Giardia antigen detection test was not very useful in examining the unconcentrated duodenal content.

L'épidémie de pneumonie à pneumocystes a duré un an dans le Centre des prématurés de Belgrade, d'octobre 1962 à octobre 1963. 43 enfants l'on contractée, dont 23 (53,5%) sont décédés. L'incubation a duré de 5 à 8 semaines. L'affection se manifestait en général par une polypnée (60 à 150 respirations à la minute) et une cyanose, sans température. L'examen physique des poumons ne montrait pas de changements ou n'en montrait que de très petits. La radiographie a dépisté des signes de pneumonie à pneumocystes. Le diagnostic a été confirmé par l'examen histo-pathologique des enfants décédés. Etant donné qu'il n'existe pas un traitement spécifique pour cette maladie. on a employé pour prévenir des infections secondaires, des antibiotiques a spectre large. Dans un service le nombre d'enfants atteints a été plus grand et l'épidémie a duré plus longtemps que dans les autres services, bien que les conditions de vie, de soins et de traitement aient été identiques dans tous les services. Une attention particulière a été apportée aux mesures prophyladiques: isolement sévère des suspects et des malades, un personnel pérmanent pour les soins aux enfants suspects et malades, désinfection totale des locaux et des objets qui ont été en contact avec les enfants malades, emploi de lampes germicides, etc.

Opis:
Twelve strains of T. vaginalis were tested for their sensitivity to dessication at room temperature. Each of them, in the quantity of 0.5 cm³ of 36 hrs old culture (containing 2.5 mln cells) was placed in 5 sterilized tubes containing 2:5 cm³ of: sterilized Roiron medium, urine, 0.9% NaCl, tap water and distilled water. After shaking, the suspension of Trichomonas of each tube in the quantity of 0.15 cm³ was placed on depression slides. The slides were then placed in sterilized, not tightly covered Petri dishes, which were kept at room temperature. The suspension of 3 slides was examined under microscope and inoculated on Roiron medium prior to complete dessication. The same procedure was followed with respect to the fourth slide but only after the suspension had, dried. The suspension remaining in the tube (2.4 cm³) served as control. The experiment showed that in a drop of 0.9% NaCl, urine and Roiron medium, Trichomonas remains active for 120 min. When transferred to Roiron medium within that time, Trichomonas reproduces in a normal way which was not observed after a transfer from the suspension dried up. In a drop of water Trichomonas loses its ability to reproduce within a time shorter than 120 min. The results speak in favour of a possibility of a non-sexual infection with Trichomonas.

Opis:
The influence of Nalcrom (sodium cromoglycate) on the cource of the intestinal phase of trichinellosis in mice was investigated. The animals infected with 200 Trichinella spiralis larvae were treated with Nalcrom between 7-20 or 3-20 days after infection (d.a.i.). The drug was administered in two doses: 0,6 or 1, 7 mg/mouse/day. In the all groups of animals received Nalcrom higher number of mast cells and eosinophilis than in the control groups was observed. These results are the opposite of those obtained with Nalcrom in ulcerative colitis in man.
