In this paper I propose to show a problem that at first sight seems clear, and thus “non-scientific”; however, after a closer look at the source material, it proves to be an important factor for contemporary entrepreneurs conducting business activities. The scientific issue is encapsulated in a concise statement: the company as a value for the entrepreneur. In order to develop the presented thesis, one must point to the fact that a company that has been established by an entrepreneur has a particular value for him, both in the material sense (its valuation on the market), and in an immaterial sense (as a symbolic value). It seems that the symbolic value greatly exceeds the material value, if we consider the entrepreneur’s perspective. Analysis of the value of a company throughout the research allows us to perceive it as the actual fulfillment of an entrepreneur’s life plans, as a workplace and a family value (frequently called the family gem). The enterprise, which is at the same time a brand, is very often the entrepreneur’s brand certificate. The social involvement of the entrepreneur and the formation of an integrated, loyal team of employees are also values in themselves. Considering the non-material value, the enterprise allows the entrepreneur and the employees to meet their needs of self-realization and appreciation. The paper was prepared based on an analysis of answers entrepreneurs gave to specialist periodicals and popular dailies. In addition, I have used my own research, conducted in 2017, among entrepreneurs who represent the small and medium enterprise sector located in towns and villages.

The article presents the idea that the maximisation of profit seems not to be the most important goal for contemporary enterprises. The author – basing on literature and empirical research – tries to indicate those activities undertaken by enterprises in the interest of the local community that have an impact not only on building managers' mental well-being and quality of life. They are also different kinds of CSR activities, but they could also be considered as proof of changing the economic model. The article ends with conclusions in which the author tries to answer the following question: what kind of profit could bring about the realisation of that new model.

Today, the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility is more popular in Poland. Under the framework, many companies are taking actions to its stakeholders and the environment. These include building human capital, social capital and innovation. These elements are the immaterial factors of competitiveness of the region. This means that the actors in the CSR contribute to increasing the competitiveness of the region and its competitive advantage. The article discusses the factors of competitiveness and also provides examples of companies that build them.

Opis:
The popularisation of drawing up codes that are addressed to various social groups is one of the features of the modern world. However, researchers of the phenomenon have not yet reached a consensus about the moral validity and utility of this activity. The article thoroughly reviews the Polish literature on the subject with regard to the reasons for taking a moderate stance on the codification of ethical standards. The essay describes the main concepts of ethical codes as well as arguments for their approval and rejection. Attention is drawn to the ways of improving the effectiveness of codes and to the ethical decision-making procedure that reconciles the positions of the supporters and opponents of codification.

The popularisation of code elaboration addressed to various social groups is one of the features of the modern world. However, among researchers of this phenomenon a full consensus on the moral validity and usefulness of this activity does not exist. The article closely reviews the literature with regard to the reasons for the creation of a moderate position on the codification of ethical standards. The essay brings closer the main concepts of ethical codes and positions for their adoption and rejection. Attention is paid to ways of increasing the effectiveness of codes and the ethical decision-making procedure in a manner that undermines supporters and opponents of codification approaches.

The article is a review of issues connected with business ethics and corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the last 20 years. Two decades have passed since the Sixth Polish Philosophical Congress took place in Toruń, where-for the first time in the history of Polish philosophical conventions-business ethics was recognized as a philosophical sub-discipline. It manifested itself in a special subsection of the Congress devoted to the topic, which was also kept at the next congress meetings. The paper is not a full review and most likely is not free from subjectivism. This is partly due to the fact that the subject matter falls within the scope of the philosophy of practicality-as the author interprets and refers to the philosophical system of Tadeusz Kotarbiński.

The CSR (corporate social responsibility) concept has become an increasingly important part of corporations’ strategies and plans. However, it does not have to translate into investors’ decisions to buy their shares. The article investigates the relationships between companies implementing a CSR strategy, the rates of return on their stocks, and their investment risk. The paper aims to verify whether applying a CSR strategy affects stock market parameters (lower risk, higher investment profitability) and whether investors consider CSR companies less risky or more profitable and reliable than non-CSR firms. The following hypotheses have been formulated: (I) CSR companies are less risky (in terms of investment risk) than non-CRS ones; (II) CSR companies are characterized by higher rates of return than non-CSR ones.
