Opis:: The primary aim of the prospective etymological dictionary of Polish dialectal plant names is to trace the origin of selected Polish dialectal wild plant names in the context of other Slavic and European languages. What is more, the dictionary will present the history of Polish dialectal plant names, their chronology, semantic motivation as well as their semantic evolution. The beginnings of entries will consist of two elements: the Latin scientific plant names and the Polish scientific plant names, which are necessary for the identification of the species. Each entry will comprise all dialectal names for a given species, which will be grouped (together with metaphorical names) according to their semantic motivation. The publication will encompass various registers of plant names (Latin scientific names, Polish scientific names, Polish dialectal names, Slavic names, European names).

Opis:: The article discusses data on kinship names in Polish dialects on the basis of an analysis of 82 linguistic maps and the comments to them from Volume 11. “Degrees of Kinship,” which has been prepared for publication by the Bulgarian National Commission as part of the lexical-word-formation series of the Slavic Linguistic Atlas. The language material is authentic, collected and verified on site by Polish dialectologists and includes terms for biological kinship and for relation by marriage and by matchmaking. Special attention is paid to the similarities and contrasts between Polish dialects and East and South Slavic dialects, on the one hand, and the Polish language and the other West Slavic languages, on the other. Emphasis is placed on kinship names that belong to the all-Slavic vocabulary, as well as the expansion of foreign language loanwords and elements that have completely replaced the native lexis. With nomina affinitatis, the disintegration of the old original naming system and the emergence of differences in the Slavic language territory can be traced. The research has employed linguo-geographical and comparative methods.

Opis:: Basing on the texts by Zofia Radwańska-Paryska, the author reconstructs the ways of describing plants growing in the Tatra Mountains. The method of looking at the plant includes four different author’s points of view, mixed with each other, and the genre of the text does not determine the language used in it. The article reproduces four examples of linguistic images of plants.

Opis:: The subject of the article is the reconstruction of the image of the Bochnia land based on the analysis of toponyms collected in the commune of Żegocina. Toponymic linguistic material was examined in the context of cultural linguistics, which allowed it to reflect the image of the former village and its inhabitants, as well as to indicate the characteristic dialectal features present in this area.

Opis:: Dialectal suffixes -acz [-oc], -ak [-ok], -ula and -ka in zagórzański dialect usually form pejorative names of people. Among female names, a special example is the suffix -ula, which is either non-existent in other dialects, or has a different function (forms names of wives or cows). By means of the words built with the use of these suffixes, language users make assessments and express critical attitude towards others.
