The article presents the work of Polish missionaries in Papua New Guinea. The author pays special attention to the first Polish Fidei donum missionaries, who originally came from the archdiocese of Gniezno - fathers: Zbigniew Hanelt, Andrzej Grzela and Kazimierz Muszyński. After them came the second "wave" of Polish Fidei donum priests: Henryk Micek, Paweł Czerwiński and Marian Zalewski. Later, the others fallowed. Papua New Guinea is one of the special places where we can see the missionary work of Polish Fidei donum priests from different dioceses.

Opis:
The publication’s goal is to fill a void by demonstrating the value of missionary martyrdom in the context of the right to religious freedom. Furthermore, the study defends the dignity of Christians and reveals the value of the sacrifice made by the community of believers in every corner of the world, as represented in the martyrdom of missionaries. Martyrdom has been present in the Church as a form of testimony from its inception. However, it is important to remember that it is always the result of abuses of the right to life and the freedom to practise one’s faith. The purpose of this publication is to identify the current reference of the martyrdom of missionaries to religious freedom rights, as well as the causes and consequences of violations of these rights, not only by individuals, but also by representatives of various social movements or even state institutions.

Opis:
Serving on a mission is almost an indispensable part of the image of the adherents of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, commonly known as Mormons, quasi-Christian new religious movement. The next text attempts to analyse and take a closer look at the theme of calling and preparing for the ministry of being a missionary as an attribute of this Church that was founded by Joseph Smith. Starting from an upbringing in the family and social expectations of the Church’s members through education in the Missionary Training Center, we can follow the vocation path and the creative process of the future Mormon missionary who preach the Gospel in various corners of the world. Missionary ministry is important in the life of each Mormon believer, even those who didn’t serve as a missionary, because it leaves a lasting imprint and affects the minds of the members of this new religious group for the rest of their lives.

Opis:
The Missionary Procuration of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate (1969-2022) is a national institution supporting Oblate, but not only, missionary activity ad gentes. Its structure also includes: Public Association of the Faithful “Friends of the Oblate Missions” (since 1969), Association Oblacka Pomoc Misjom “Lumen Caritatis” (since 2009), the Missionary Roads magazine and website (since 2014), and the Mazenodianum Institute Foundation (since 2021). These institutions, apart from the association of “Friends of the Oblate Missions”, previously operated separately. From the very beginning, the Missionary Procuration has been associated with the basic areas of its activity: providing spiritual and material assistance to missionaries and the works they carry out; supporting the awakening of missionary vocations; propagating the missionary idea both among the clergy and lay people, also through: the activities of the Friends of the Mission, the activities of the “Lumen Caritatis” association, the publishing of the “Missionary Roads” magazine, the www.misacyjne.pl website, books and ephemeral publications, presence in other social media, parish animations and mission retreats, conducting social campaigns, other evangelistic, cultural and scientific events related to the promotion of Oblate missions. The conducted research shows, among others, that: this activity in many of its aspects may be paradigmatic for other national mission institutions (eg WYD or the missionary secretariat of the Divine Word Missionaries work in a similar way). The realities of missionary activity and research have also shown that the centralization of missionary activities in one institutional entity within the religious or diocesan jurisdiction is a better solution than their atomization. The purpose of missionary institutions is not only spiritual and material help for the mission, but also a much wider multifaceted activity; in the activities of ecclesial missionary institutions, both proven and modern missionary tools should be used, and in-depth mission formation, as well as the creation of communities, groups of people engaged in mission is a condition of permanent missionary assistance.

Opis:
The missionary action in Iceland did not end with the reception of Christianity by Althing in the year 1000. Further eff orts of the missionaries and their cooperation with Icelandic society were necessary to consolidate the adopted faith. The missionaries from Germany and England fi rst had a huge share here. Then, the native bishops and clergy took over this role successfully. The political and social stabilization of this period allowed Christianity to take root in the society of the Icelandic time of the independent Icelandic Community. This was confi rmed by the rise and development of monastic life, the development of Icelandic culture and education. The fi rst period of Christianity in Iceland allowed for laying solid foundations on which, even after the loss of sovereignty, Icelanders could preserve their cultural identity and national heritage.

Opis:
Since the apostolic times, the Church has continuously fulfi lled the invitation addressed by Jesus to his disciples: Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15). The Second Vatican Council, writing about the missionary nature of the Church, clearly emphasized the importance of the task of bringing the Good News to all people on Earth. This mission includes the activity of the Sisters Servants of the Holy and Immaculate Virgin Mary, a congregation founded by blessed Edmund Bojanowski. Although the congregation was not established with missionary work in mind, the fi rst Sisters left Poland as early as 1928, realizing the deep missionary  awareness that had always been present in Bojanowski. Currently, the Sisters work almost on all continents, running schools and nurseries for children, serving the sick in  clinics and hospitals, working for charity, parishes and pastoral care. The spring months faced the Sisters with the challenge of dealing with the covid-19 virus epidemic, which aff ected, among others, the functioning of the hospitals and schools run by the Sisters, putting many children in poor health at risk because of the conditions in which they live. The Sisters often added a request for prayer and support to the current news published on the Internet. Although due to the epidemic, the departures of volunteers became impossible, many people of good will supported and  continue to support the missionary activity of the Sisters, remembering the words of Christ: Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me (Matthew 25:40).

In 1850 the Holy See entrusted missionary work in South Africa to a young at that time congregation of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. Oblates undertook that work and after some time divided their work in the 19th century into five different regions. At first they began their work in Natal, after that in Basutoland (now Lesotho), in the Free Orange State, in Transvaal, and at the end of the century also in Cymbebasie (today Namibia). As the first Oblate mission in Africa, this activity remains a point of reference to the further development of the conception of the Oblate missions in Africa.

Altogether 265 monks lived in the monastery, many of them from Poland. They started to open new missionary posts, sometimes even up to 200 km away from Marianhill. In 1909 Pope Pius the 10th created a new missionary congregation – Marianhill Missionaries. Their work is still practically unknown. To the large extend it was co-founded by Poles and often supported by them.

Opis:
During his pilgrimages to his homeland, John Paul II was teaching his countrymen about the problems specifi c to the Church in Poland, but also to the whole Church. One of these themes was the missions ad gentes. The Pope noticed and pointed out on the example of the history of his nation that missions built Polish statehood and shaped Polish culture. He called for this process to be recognized in the history of Europe as a whole and to recognize in evangelization the factor that builds and defi nes its true identity. He showed that missions help imbue human culture with a supernatural element. He recalled the truth about the missionary nature of the Church and the missionary vocation of all its members. Responsibility and cooperation in the missionary work was for John Paul II one of the forms of the “imagination of mercy.”  Appealing to his countrymen for missionary generosity and commitment, he also pointed to the fi gures who were involved in the animation of the missionary work in the Polish and universal Church. In his teaching in Poland, he recalled the missionary task of the Church community and of each and every faithful.

One of the most successful missionary organization, the Jesuits, also operated in northern Mexico in the area today identified as the Sonoran Desert, comprising the Mexican state of Sonora and the US state of Arizona. By the early eighteenth century increasingly German-speaking missionaries arrived and worked hard in the wide network  of missions originally established by the pioneer Padre Eusebio Kino (d. 1711) to spread God's words. They also worked intensively on studying that territory and produced numerous written records about their experiences, their research, and the conditions of that world. They were expelled in 1767 and banned globally in 1783, but until then they achieved greatest success with the native population. Their missionary accounts prove to be highly exiting historical, anthropological, religious, and scientific documents most important for missionary history.
