Opis:
The purpose of the research was to determine the aging-induced changes in the selected mechanical properties and flammability of polypropylene modified with natural fillers (sunflower husk, wheat bran, pine sawdust and talc). The fillers were introduced into polypropylene in a mechanical mixing process (weight content 20%). The samples were obtained with the use of an Allrounder 320 C500–170 laboratory injection molding machine. The aging process under artificial sample conditions was carried out in the laboratory chamber (aging time of 0, 60, 120, 240, 360 hours). The tests of the mechanical properties included the measurements of hardness, impact strength and tensile strength. The flammability tests were carried out with a vertical and horizontal alignment of the sample according to the PN-EN 60695–11–10 standard. As a result of the research, a significant impact of the introduction of natural fillers in the form of sunflower husks, wheat bran and pine sawdust on the selected properties of polypropylene was demonstrated. A large decrease in the impact toughness, a relatively small decrease in the short-term tensile strength as well as an increase in the elastic modulus and stress at rupture caused by the introduction of the natural fillers mentioned, were found. A beneficial effect was the relatively small impact of aging on the mechanical properties and flammability of the modified polypropylene fillers.

Opis:
The effect of small polyamide additives modified with polyvinylpyrrolidone and montmorillonite on polypropylene technological properties and heat resistance has been researched in the work. It has been determined that the melt flow index of the obtained composites increases by more than 2 times in comparing with pure PP. It has been shown that adding a small amount of polyamide modified by montmorillonite-polyvinylprolidone mixture to polypropylene significantly increases heat resistance of the material. The displacement of the beginning of thermal-oxidation destruction and burning samples into the range of higher temperatures on 114-123oC, dependently on the modified polyamide content has been observed.

Opis:
The effect of grooves number in the feed section and screw length as well as filler nature and content on the productivity of single-screw extruder has been examined. Compositions based on polypropylene with glass fibers, talc and chalk were used for research. It is established that the number of grooves in the feed section and the length of the screw differently affect the productivity of a single screw extruder depending on the nature and content of the filler. This effect is shown to be most significant for polypropylene compositions with mineral powders (talc and chalk).

Opis:
The objective of this study was to determine the effect of various design solutions for intensive mixing and shearing elements located at the end of a single-screw plasticizing system on the effectiveness of wood polypropylene composite extrusion. Four types of such elements were used in the study: a pineapple mixer, a Maddock mixer, a ring mixer, and a helical mixer. For the purpose of the study, 4 blends were prepared containing 5, 10, 15 and 20% of wood fibre, respectively. Direct and indirect resulting factors as well as variable, constant and disturbing factors were investigated. The effectiveness of extrusion of wood polypropylene composites was determined based on results of parameters characterizing this process, such as extrudate temperature, unit consumption of energy supplied to the extruder, mass flow rate, and extrusion speed. It has been shown that the effectiveness of the extrusion process can be improved by using different mixing and shearing elements. Such screw design solutions make it possible to affect rheological phenomena occurring during melt flow in the plasticizing system, without modifying the extrusion process parameters such as screw rotation speed and polymer temperature. The literature review shows that there exist very few and general studies investigating the effect of screw design geometry, especially that of mixing and shearing elements, on the efficiency of extruding and mixing wood polypropylene materials.
