Opis:
Internal water pipe corrosion is a complicated problem due to the interaction of water quality parameters with pipe wall. This study presents investigations of internal pipe surface corrosion mechanisms related to water physicochemical. Samples of water and corrosion-damaged ductile cast iron (30+ years) and galvanized steel pipe (15-20 years) were collected at in-situ condition from Addis Ababa city water distribution system. Scanning electron microscopy and optical microscopy were used to examine the pipes' corrosion morphology and microstructures, respectively. Additionally, Mountains 9 surface analysis software was used for further pitting corrosion characterization. To identify the causes of internal pipe corrosion, water physicochemical analyses were conducted by using inoLab pH 7310P, DR 900, Palintest Photometer 7100, and Miero 800. Water physicochemical test indicates: CaCO3 is 77 - 215 ppm, pH is 7.05 – 7.86, total dissolved solids (TDS) is 84.10 -262.8 ppm, ClO2 is 0 – 0.5 ppm, and dissolved oxygen (80-81 ppb). From water test results, major causes of internal pipe corrosion damage mechanisms were identified as dissolved oxygen, CaCO3, TDS, ClO2,and resistivity of water which initiates a differential cell that accelerates pipe corrosion. Using Mountain 9 surface analysis software, corrosion morphology and pitting features were characterized. The outputs of this paper will be helpful for water distribution and buried infrastructure owners to investigate corrosion damage mechanisms at early stage. To manage corrosion mechanisms, water supply owners need to conduct frequent inspections, recording of pipe data, testing of water quality, periodic pipelines washing, and apply preventative maintenance.

Opis:
This article presents a wear analysis of die inserts used in the hot forging process of a forked forging (yoke), an element applied in steering systems of passenger vehicles. Studies involved the application of an original reverse scanning method intended for rapid and reliable wear analysis of forging tools (with complicated shape) affording easy assessment without the need to dismount tools from the forging unit. The developed method involves analysis of progressive wear of forging tools based on measurements (scanning) of forgings periodically collected from the process and constitutes a useful tool for measurement and testing. As the authors’ earlier works have demonstrated, the proposed new approach to analysis of tool wear with the application of reverse 3D scanning has proven successful in multiple instances in the case of axially symmetrical objects. The presented results of studies indicate that it is possible to utilize the expanded method to analyze the lifetime of forging tools, including tools with complex geometry. Application of the reverse scanning method allows for continuous and practical monitoring of the condition of forging tools over the course of the forging process and should have a positive impact on improving production output and reducing production costs.

Opis:
With increased requirements for quality and shelf life of machined parts there is also a higher share of the use of material with specific properties that are identified by the term “superalloys”. These materials differ from common steels by mechanical and physical properties that cause their worse machinability. During machining of “superalloys” worse machinability has negative influence primarily on the amount of cutting edge wear, which shortens durability of the cutting tool. The goal of experimental activity shown in this contribution is to determine individual mechanisms of the cutting edge wear and their effects on the cutting ability during high speed machining of nickel superalloy. A specific exchangeable cutting insert made from cubic boric nitride was used for machining of the 625 material according to ASM 5666F. The criteria to evaluate cutting ability and durability of the cutting tool became selected parameters of surface integrity and quality of the machined surface.

Opis:
The paper deals with the problem of kinematic synthesis of dwell linkage mechanisms which are based on the four-bar linkage with a coupler point that traces a curve with a straight-line part. It enables to obtain a dwell of the output link of the mechanism, but the main goal is to find such parameters of the mechanisms that hold the required conditions of the designer: necessary dwell time, to satisfy the necessary cyclogram of the machine with taking into account the number of additional parameters. The main problem is to carry out the kinematic synthesis of the basic straight-line linkage that can be done by the kinematic geometry methods. In this paper it was shown that the fivefold interpolation nodes of the coupler curve with the tangent line can be successfully used to satisfy the necessary criteria. As a result of the carried out studies, the regions of existence of such mechanism parameters were determined enabling to carry out an optimization procedure using different criteria.
