Opis:
The essential influence of the unevenness of temperature distribution while heating in the technological process on dimensions stability of low rigidity elements was shown. The new approach was applied to formulate mathematical models, which describe the elastic and inelastic behaviour of piece using transfer functions and block diagrams, allowing to use frequency method for evaluation of the behaviour of dynamic semifinished element as the rigid body.

Opis:
The purpose of modern surface hardening technology is obtaining reproducible, precisely planned parameters of the carburized layer, minimizing the negative phenomena that result in dimensional changes after hardening and making it possible to determine the nature and magnitude of these changes. This concerns mainly the concept of single-piece flow in heat treatment applied for the purposes of mass production, employing a special autonomous 4D Quenching chamber for high pressure gas quenching (HPGQ). The main components of the 4D Quenching chamber include a system of cooling nozzles surrounding the processed item and providing a uniform inflow of cooling gas from all directions (3D) and a table rotating together with the item processed, contributing to uniform cooling (4D). Within the framework of this paper there was studied the impact of gear wheel quenching in a 4D Quenching chamber using nitrogen at pressure of 6 and 10 bar on changes in geometry. Geometric measurements of facewidth of gear, hole diameter and outside diameter were performed before and after carburization and quenching. The results obtained allowed us to determine the impact of quenching pressure inside a 4D Quenching chamber on dimensional changes in gear wheels analyzed. The thermo-chemical treatment resulted in a decrease in outside diameters and hole diameters measured and an increase in facewidth of gears.

The Cellular Automata represent a universal method of modelling and simulation. They enable the performance of calculations for even the most complex processes and phenomena. They are also used successfully in mechanical and material engineering. In this paper, the concept of application of the Cellular Automata method for simulating the behaviour of material under stress is presented. The proposed numerical algorithm created performs a number of calculations of local stress states in the structure of precipitation hardened material. The principle of its operation is based on the application of the equivalent truss model, which is often used in the optimisation and design of structures. In this paper, this model was used to simulate a system embodying a section of the material containing various phases with different mechanical properties.

In the paper the methods of laser hardening of external tool corners on the example of bending tools for press brakes were presented. The disadvantages and limitations of the most commonly used techniques for guiding a hardening laser light beam are presented, i.e.: (i) in one pass parallel to the tool corner plane symmetry, (ii) in two passes perpendicular to the surfaces adjacent to the corner, and (iii) in one pass perpendicular to the surface adjacent to the corner by using two diode lasers. The microstructure of the tool material after laser and induction hardening was compared. A significant influence of the heating method on the microstructure of the tool material after hardening was demonstrated. The original method of hardening the outer corners of bending tools using a hardening laser beam splitter was subject to a more detailed analysis. The analysis of material heating in simultaneously hardened corner area and adjacent surfaces was carried out using the Marc/Mentat software based on the finite element method. By analyzing the temperature distributions it was shown that if a beam splitter was used, obtaining a continuous and uniform hardened layer (i.e. with comparable hardness, depth, without tempered or non-tempered areas) in the area of the outer corner and adjacent surfaces was possible. In practice, achieving such a layer is conditioned by the correct selection of the size of the k parameter which determines the distance between the separated beams of laser light. Depending on the geometry of the hardened tool corner and the parameters of the hardening laser beam, this distance can be determined experimentally or on the basis of numerical simulation.

The process of conjoined stress cycling and abrasive or erosive wear is encountered in industry. However, very scant attention has been paid till now to this issue. The paper presents two test rigs designed and built to cope with this experimental problem. Tests were carried out on the range of pure iron (Armco), carbon steels namely S235JR, C45, C70U, C80U, C110U and unalloyed cast steels (L40III, L45III and L50III). Tested iron-based alloys differ in chemical composition, microstructure and Brinell hardness ranging from 80HB to 350HB. Stress cycling caused strain hardening of ferrite in hypoeutectoid steels and thus reduced their abrasive wear loss. In the hypereutectoid steel stress cycling impaired integrity of the microstructure thus increasing abrasive wear loss. Alternating stresses enhanced ploughing and cutting micromechanisms of erosion. Tensile stress in the tested cast steel had a stronger effect on wear loss than the prior stress history.

This paper presents the impact of selecting the fatigue material model on the numerically determined fatigue life of a compressor blade. In the work, the first stage compressor blade of the PZL‑10W turbine engine was used. The research object contained a geometric notch with a known location and shape. In numerical studies, 8 fatigue estimation methods were used in the ε ‑N analysis (based on the Manson‑Coffin‑Basquin model). At the same time, three methods for estimating material constants associated with the cyclic hardening were employed. On the basis of the selected models, 24 sets of fatigue parameters were obtained, which were used in numerical studies. The numerical tests were carried out under resonant conditions with amplitudes of 1.5 and 1.8 mm. The numerical tests were confirmed by the experimental fatigue tests. As a result of the above‑mentioned tests, the impact of selecting the material fatigue model and hardening model on the obtained results was determined and they were referred to the initiation of the crack with the length a = 0.2 mm (achieved during experimental studies). The obtained results will constitute the basis for further fatigue tests.

The KOBO extrusion is an unconventional elastic-plastic deformation process in which the phenomenon of chang- ing a path of plastic deformation due to die cyclic oscillations by a given angle and with a given frequency is applied. As the result of the application of the oscillating rotary motion of the die, the reduction of the extrusion force was obtained. The numerical study of the KOBO extrusion of metallic materials was presented in this paper. The three-dimensional coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) analysis was applied. The relationship between the extrusion force and the punch displacement during the KOBO process was achieved. The effective plastic strain distribution in the butt was found. The results of the numerical computations were compared with the experimen- tal data. The influence of the material hardening parameters on the cyclic loading phenomena (ratcheting, mean stress relaxation) in terms of the course of the KOBO extrusion was also examined. The proper determination of the material hardening parameters can help to optimize the KOBO process in terms of the reduction the extrusion force and the choice of the amount of die oscillations.
