Opis:
The aim of this study was a comparative analysis of static shear strength of single-lap adhesive joints of 316L steel adherends, measured prior to and after mechanical treatment with a P320 grit coated abrasive tool. The study was of comparative nature and focused on adhesive joints subjected to thermal cycling. The tests were carried out on joints bonded with Epidian 5 and Epidian 6 epoxy adhesives hardened with Z1 and PAC curing agents. The static shear strength tests results of single-lap adhesive joints were analysed with regard to different surface treatment variants. The scope of tests covered a relatively short fatigue cycle, i.e. 200 cycles in the range of temperatures between -40o C and +60o C. This paper includes the surface free energy and selected surface roughness parameters of substrates and images showing the surface of adherends before and after mechanical treatment with P320 grit coated abrasive tool.

Opis:
The paper evaluates the effect of the surface treatment on the strength of the single‑lap adhesive joints made of the C45 steel. The samples were joined using an adhesive composition consisting of Epidian 57 epoxy resin and PAC curing agent. The study also used Greinplast mosaic plaster with a grain size of 1.0–1.6 mm as coating. The experiment was carried out for 3 variants of joints: sheet/sheet, sheet+plaster/sheet+plaster, sheet/sheet+plaster. Each variant was divided into 3 methods of surface treatment. The strength tests were carried out on the Zwick/Roell Z150 testing machine. The roughness parameters of the surface’s samples were measured using a HOMMEL TESTER T1000 profilometer.

Opis:
This paper examines the effect of selected factors on the wood bonded joint strength. The structural factor under scrutiny was the geometry of the surface area; however, other major dimensions of adherends were compared as well. The tests were performed on 6 joint types: butt, v-shaped, interlocking, scarf, tongue & groove, and single lap joints, which were formed on two types of substrate materials – pine and oak wood, and adhesively bonded. The joints were bonded with Prefere 6312 wood adhesive and Loctite 3430 two-component epoxy adhesive. Strength testing of the joints was performed on Zwick/Roell Z150 material testing machine, according to DIN EN 1465 standard. The results obtained from the tests indicate that bonded joints of oak wood exhibit higher strength properties than those of pine wood adherends, which was confirmed in nearly all strength tests.

Opis:
The paper reports values of surface free energy and its components of an epoxy adhesive modified by the addition of an active diluent. Wetting envelopes are determined and they serve as a basis for a wettability analysis and determining the possibility of maximizing the work of adhesion between the liquid and the solid. Static strength tests of adhesive joints made with the analysed adhesive compositions were also conducted. The results are used to determine the effect of active diluent addition on the energy and adhesive properties of the epoxy adhesive

Opis:
This work presents the results of comparative tests for the determination of Young’s modulus and the static shear strength of adhesive lap joints, based on grade 316L steel. The tests also concerned the determination of the glass transition temperature of a certain adhesive composition: Epidian 57 epoxy resin with a 10% Z1 hardener content. The paper shows the test results for the surface free energy and selected surface roughness parameters, including photographs of the test specimens after destructive testing. The tests were comparative and performed on adhesive joints, with and without exposure to thermal cycling. The scope of the testing included a relatively short thermal cycling run of 500 cycles with a temperature variation of -40°C to +60°C. An analysis was carried out of the results from testing the static shear resistance of specimens manufactured using various methods of adhesive joint seasoning. The experimental test results were statistically processed in compliance with good research practice.

Opis:
This paper reports the experimental results of a study investigating the effect of adhesive joint end shapes on the load-bearing capacity of carbon fibre-reinforce polymer (CFRP) and steel bonded joints. In the study, samples with new proprietary types of CFRP strip ends were examined. All samples were subjected to tensile quasi-static loading with a load rate of 1.5 mm/min. A total of 60 samples with CFRP/steel single overlap joints were tested to determine their ultimate load-bearing capacity, effective bond length and failure modes for the above variables. 8 joint end shapes of normal CFRP modulus with three lengths of CFRP overlap and one CFRP cross section (20 x 1.4 mm) were used in this study. Laboratory test results showed that joint end shape has visible effect on the load capacity of the CFRP/steel bonded joints. The load-bearing capacity of the samples with a regular joint end was up to 28 % lower than that of the samples with a plan-shaped end and 30 % lower than that of the samples with a chamfered end with adhesive outflow. The differences in the results decreased with increase in joint end length towards the effective end length.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to compare the welded and adhesive joints made of polypropylene pipes. The pipes were butt jointed. Two pipe diameters were used: ø20 mm and ø25 mm. The welded joints were made by hot gas welding, while the adhesive joints were made by two epoxy adhesive compositions. The base for both compositions was Epidian 6 epoxy resin, which was mixed with IDA and TFF curing agents in the recommended quantitative ratios. The experimental tests consisted in determination and comparison of the strength properties of the made joints; therefore, the analyzed joints were subjected to the destructive strength tests, which determined their tensile strength in accordance with the ISO 527–1 standard. On the basis of the obtained results, it was observed that welded joints obtained the highest average strength. The lowest strength was characteristic for the adhesive joints made with Epidian 6/TFF/100:27 adhesive. The obtained results were subjected to a statistical analysis, which showed that the strength of ø20 mm diameter pipe joints did not differ significantly from the strength of ø25 mm diameter pipe joints, comparing the results for each type of joint with the assumed level of confidence α = 0.05.
