Opis:
In this work, a modern biocomposite on the base of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) matrix commonly known as PHBV was produced in the extrusion process, containing 30% by weight of hemp fibers. The use of the above-mentioned filler allowed to reduce the producing costs of the composite material compared to pure PHBV, improving, among others, some mechanical properties of products made of this biocomposite while maintaining full biodegradation. The obtained biocomposite can be successfully used for the production of injection molded products, but its processing properties are not yet fully known and consequently it is difficult to obtain the optimal performance properties of the products. As part of this study, the process of optimization of the production process of products from the PHBV-hemp fiber biocomposite was carried out on the example of samples intended for testing in the uniaxial tensile test. By using orthogonal planes, widely used in optimization process, the required number of injection molding tests was reduced. Input data values were determined by the factorial planning method that is commonly used in designing experiments. The calculations were carried out in the Minitab 18 software. Six controlling factors were used in the analyzes, each of which was subject to changes on three levels. When selecting the range of controlling factors, it was initially assumed that for all assumed levels of variability it must be possible to fill the mold cavity completely. The orthogonal plan of the L27 type was used in the research. For the purposes of the method, an orthogonal table was built containing 27 combinations of parameters subject to optimization. Optimization was undertaken for two main criteria: shrinkage of the ,,dog-bone” samples (primary and secondary volumetric shrinkage), mechanical properties (Young's modulus, tensile strength, elongation at break). By means of Taguchi method, a significant improvement of some product mechanical properties made of biocomposite was noted and the effective reduction of the processing shrinkage was observed.

Opis:
The paper presents results of a numerical and experimental analysis of post-critical state of a thin-walled channel-section simply supported beam under axial compression. The beam was made of carbon-epoxy symmetrical composite prepared with a pre-preg technology using 8 layers of unidirectional band. The material used was a composite of epoxy matrix reinforced with carbon fiber (system HexPly M12, Hexcel). The M12 system is used above all in aircraft structures. It exhibits high fatigue durability and good maintenance properties at relatively low specific gravity. The research was lead as the FEM numerical analyses and experimental tests in post-buckling and limit states, as well. Experimental studies were conducted to confirm results obtained from numerical calculations, which was performed using the ABAQUS® software.

Opis:
Bamboo is a naturally available, fast growing and renewable resource. Bamboo plants are found all over the world in tropical and non-tropical regions. Asia pacific region is specifically rich in bamboo biodiversity. Due to high energy demand of existing construction materials and scarcity of other naturally available materials like wood, bamboo is a good alternative for construction. This paper reviews the mechanical properties and use of bamboo in construction. The tensile strength of different bamboo species varies in the range 70-210 MPa, compressive strength 20-65 MPa, elastic modulus 2500-17500 MPa, and modulus of rupture 50-200 MPa. Bamboo is a versatile material and can be used in construction in various ways. Bamboo can be engineered to specific need in construction such as laminated and scrimber bamboo. Engineered bamboo are used for various housing purposes such as roofing and flooring. Bamboo culms are often used directly without any alteration as structural members such as beams and columns. Bamboo can also be used as reinforcement in concrete as a replacement to steel. The shear and flexural behavior of bamboo reinforced concrete (BRC) beams is significantly better than plain concrete beams. Bamboo fibers reinforced concrete (BFRC) is a good alternative to existing synthetic fibers reinforced concrete such as glass and steel fibers. Development of standardized testing procedures and structural specifications utilizing existing and future research findings will pave the way towards an extensive use of bamboo in construction industry.

Opis:
This paper presents a formulation for material and geometrical nonlinear analysis of composite materials by immersion of truss finite elements into triangular 2D solid ones using a novel formulation of the finite element method based on positions. This positional formulation uses the shape functions to approximate some quantities defined in the Nonlinear Theory of Elasticity and proposes to describe the specific strain energy and the potential of the external loads as function of nodal positions which are set from a deformation function. Because the nodal positions have current values in each node, this method naturally considers the geometric nonlinearities while the nonlinear relationships between stress and strain may be considered by a pure nonlinear elastic theory called hyperelasticity which allows to obtain linearised constitutive laws in its variational form. This formulation should be able to include both viscoelastic and active behavior, as well as to allow the consideration of nonlinear relations between stresses and deformations. It is common to adopt hyperelastic constitutive laws. Few are the works that use the strategy of approaching the problem such as fibers immersed in a matrix. The immersion of fibers in the matrix makes it possible to include both a viscoelastic behavior in a simple and direct way. The examples are simple cases, some of them even with analytical solutions, mainly for validation purposes of the presented formulations. By modeling a structure, the examples show the potentialities of the concepts and proposed formulations.
