Opis:
The paper presents an analysis of the influence of machining strategy and the technological history of semi-finished product on the deformation of thin-walled elements made of aluminium alloy EN-AW 2024 after milling. As a part of this research work, five machining strategies are analysed. Additionally, the rolling direction of the plate (longitudinal and transversal) is taken into account as a technological history. During the research, the focus is set on the effects of the machining strategies i.e. HPC, HSM and conventional machining as well as their combinations on the post-machining stresses and deformations. Each of these strategies has a different range of technological parameters, which results in differences in machining efficiency and introduces post-machining stresses to the surface layer of the workpiece that vary in values and nature (i.e. compressive stresses or tensile stresses). The conducted study shows that larger deformations were obtained for transversal rolling direction in each analyzed case. The lowest deformation both for transversal and longitudinal rolling direction were achieved for the HSM and CM strategy.

Opis:
The paper presents an overview of high-performance milling techniques of thin-walled elements. Currently, the tendency to simplify semi-finished products is used in aviation. In that case even 95% of semi-finished product mass is converted into chips, hence the increasing interest in such technol-ogies as: High Performance Cutting and High Speed Cutting. The aim of the paper was to research high-performance milling techniques of thin-walled elements in reference to conventional machin-ing. The material was the EN AW-7075 T651 aluminium alloy. A thin-walled pocket structure was designed and manufactured. The aspects related to geometric accuracy, surface quality and cutting time were analysed. On the basis of the obtained results, it was found that in case of geometric accu-racy related to the wall deformation, the greatest deformation was obtained after HPC, while the smallest one after HSC. The difference was over 400% (comparing HPC to HSC). A similar relation-ship was also received for the quality of the machined surface. Analysing the cutting time, the best result was achieved after HPC in reference to HSC and conventional machining. Taking into ac-count all analysed variables, the best solution was a combination of HPC and HSC. Thanks to the use of high-speed machining as a finishing, it is possible to receive high geometric accuracy and quality of the machined surface, while the application of HPC for roughing allows to shorten the cutting time, translating into an increase in the efficiency of the milling process. Conventional ma-chining is slightly less advantageous in terms of geometric accuracy and surface quality and it could possibly be used alternatively with High Speed Cutting, but its weakness is significantly lower effi-ciency compared to high-performance machining.

The study includes considerations on the numerical methods of obtaining the correct forms of deformation of thin-walled plates subjected to pure shear, operating under conditions of critical loads. Selected methods were presented and subjected to comparative tests, allowing for the obtaining of a state of large deformations of a perfectly flat system, loaded in its plane. These methods are based on application various forms of initial imperfections into the system, either geometrically or physically. A new solution was proposed in this area, differing in its essence from most commonly used solutions.

This work describes why trending thin-walled technology is achieving popularity in steel construction sector. A purpose of this article is to present the influence of the cold-formed element cross-section shape on an axial compression and a bending moment resistance. The authors have considered four different shapes assuming constant section area and thickness. Calculations were based on three different steel grades taking into account local, distortional and overall buckling. The results are presented in a tabular and a graphical way and clearly confirm that cross-section forming distinctly impact the cold-formed member resistance. The authors choose these cross-sections that work better in compression state and the other (those slender and high) that function more efficiently are subjected to bending.

Opis:
This work describes the restraints in the optimization problem. This is an important and complicated issue because it requires taking into account a vast range of information related to the design and production. In order to describe the relations of a specific optimization problem, it is essential to adopt appropriate criteria and to collect information on all kinds of restraints, i.e. boundary conditions. The following paper verifies the various restraints and defines three subsets: design assumptions, technological limitations and standard conditions. The provided classification was made with reference to the analysis of the construction applicability of the newly patented cold-formed profile.

Additive processes allow for almost any manufacturing of screw-threaded joint elements. However, this requires knowledge of the geometrical relationships of a threaded itself and the strength of materials from which the screw-threaded joint is made. Thanks to the development of research models and conducting tests related to dimensional accuracy and surface roughness, it was possible to test the models made by MEX process of ABS-M30, PLA, ABS, PETG materials, and PolyJet process from RGD720 polymer material. In the case of measurements carried out on the MarSurf XC20 system, the internal and external thread profile was obtained.Measurements of the surface roughness of the printed models were made using the Taylor Hobson TalyScan 150 profilometer. Based on the obtained surface, following the ISO 25178-2 standard, selected parameters were determined.

Opis:
The objective of this study was to determine the effect of various design solutions for intensive mixing and shearing elements located at the end of a single-screw plasticizing system on the effectiveness of wood polypropylene composite extrusion. Four types of such elements were used in the study: a pineapple mixer, a Maddock mixer, a ring mixer, and a helical mixer. For the purpose of the study, 4 blends were prepared containing 5, 10, 15 and 20% of wood fibre, respectively. Direct and indirect resulting factors as well as variable, constant and disturbing factors were investigated. The effectiveness of extrusion of wood polypropylene composites was determined based on results of parameters characterizing this process, such as extrudate temperature, unit consumption of energy supplied to the extruder, mass flow rate, and extrusion speed. It has been shown that the effectiveness of the extrusion process can be improved by using different mixing and shearing elements. Such screw design solutions make it possible to affect rheological phenomena occurring during melt flow in the plasticizing system, without modifying the extrusion process parameters such as screw rotation speed and polymer temperature. The literature review shows that there exist very few and general studies investigating the effect of screw design geometry, especially that of mixing and shearing elements, on the efficiency of extruding and mixing wood polypropylene materials.

Steel bars are manufactured in the rolling process, whereby they are characterized by strain hardening and poor plastic properties. In many application cases such properties are improper, therefore, additional heat treatment is required. Crucial influence on the products quality after heat treatment has an appropriate selection of process parameters. In many modern technologies of heat treatment the charge of porous structure is subjected to the heating process. Proper control of heat treatment parameters of bundles of rods requires knowledge on their thermal properties. However, it also requires accurate identification of complex heat transfer processes occurring in the porous material. Such analysis, with respect to bundles of bars, provide a response of qualitative nature of the heat exchange area of these charges. The article describes the emissivity measurements of samples of the steel charge using a thermal imaging camera.

The study presents the results of comprehensive numerical analyses of an unusual solution in the field of geometry of holes in the wall of the wing torsion box subjected to torsion. Due to the nature of loads acting on the wing structure in flight conditions, it is possible to modify the current standard solutions. However, this involves a fundamental change in the nature of stress distribution and the resulting need to use new types of local reinforcements of the structure. The analyses were supposed to indicate the dependencies between the geometric parameters of the outcuts and the nature of advanced deformations and the distribution of internal forces.

Opis:
Classical approach is a popular method used in the analysis of structures including bending plates, but these plates can have highly irregular geometry and contain holes or may be subjected to loading irregularity. Hence, the analysis is further complicated and the classical approaches are not valid. Thus, the Finite Element Method is used to control the accuracy and it is needed for more difficult problems. In the present study Fourier series theory as classical approach and finite element method of analysis were discussed and the numerical examples of a simply supported and fixed supported square steel plate were used to compare them. The results obtained with general public software LISA that uses FEM was plotted according to the element types, both quadrangular and triangular. Their convergence was verified with the values obtained from classical approach to validate the results of FEM from LISA. The results showed the conformity with the existing theories that the greater discretization the more the reality is approached. The convergence error of 5% was taken as the maximum for the element types and meshes to be used for highly sophisticated plate systems. The ratios of element size to the size of the whole square plate to be used for general cases of square plate dimensions were established.
